    If you put 42,000 dollars of cash in a safe back in 1994 it would be worth the same amount. If you put 42,000 dollars worth of forever stamps from the post office... It is now worth 73,000 dollars... Almost worth twice as much today.😂

    • @Animaldrummerpunk
      @Animaldrummerpunk Місяць тому +2

      Has a value of yes, but how much would someone be willing to pay for that much postage?!

    • @OriginalNethead
      @OriginalNethead Місяць тому +1

      @@Animaldrummerpunk Not 73,000. You'd get over inflation, but buying and holding anything is gambling. Only gamble with money you can afford to lose. I gamble at yard sales.

    • @Animaldrummerpunk
      @Animaldrummerpunk Місяць тому +1

      @@OriginalNethead once you spend 42k it’s still worth 42k, but once the stamp is used it’s not worth anything except to maybe a collector hundreds of years from now. Better off putting that 42k in savings as opposed to stamps. The principle of the stamp was just so you didn’t have to worry about adding extra postage when an increase did happen. Probably a better investment buying 42k in video games still shrink rapped in boxes. The value on that from 1994 would be eye opening.

    95% or more of the things I sell are items I got for free. Dumpster dived, curb picked, given to me, or they are my own items. It's just how I do it. I can't imagine taking a loan so I can go out and buy things that might not sell. I totally get and respect that that is what people have to do. I just feel bad that people have to go into debt to make money. I like knowing that I don't owe anyone money. Didn't even have a credit card until right around 40.

    Debt is the killer of dreams and living within your budget is like breathing fresh air.
    It is, as you say Kevin, a person can run a successful reselling business with little to no money at the start, middle, and end.

    We started by selling what we already had. We put no real money in. 5 months in and we are loving it. We list every day and source four days a week. We did take a vacation the beginning of quarter 3 but we are looking forward to quarter 4. It’s our first one and we are hoping it will push us to the point we can invest in some storage units. But we save some aside for those emergency finds. Your channel has been such a blessing of information and education thank you!

    I've just paused at the credit card part Kevin, as you know I'm not a reseller, I just enjoy watching, I much prefer watching you guys from America 🇺🇲 as appose to 🇬🇧 Resellers, but anywho, it was a good few years ago, my bank manager offered me a credit card, he tried pushing it for a while{I wouldn't of taken him up on it anyway} even after I said 'I'm unemployed' to try & shut down the conversation, it didn't faze him... I was only there to pop a cheque in my current account! Anywho I'll carry on watching now 👍🏻 Jayne

    CREDIT is KILLER - I've owned two small businesses - credit debt can quickly add up and your profits are depleted, and you are in the hole! I believe the BIGGEST reason people quit a business is lack of financial understanding. Our businesses are debt free because we WORKED in the front end to benefit at this end. 60/40 split. After the initial start-up expenses as you mentioned: 60% profit / 40% to go toward inventory, shipping supplies (if needed), taxes, miscellaneous (cleaning supplies for example).

    Don’t recommend the loan for sure. I read fine print and it states that it sends your info to various loan brokers.
    So that means a predatory loan company will mostly likely prey on desperation from some and give out their terrible loans with super high interest rates and high payment plans.

    Taking Venmo...what took them so long? Shopping with spendable funds scared me. If something goes wrong, you only have eBay's "customer service" to protect you, and there's a reason I put that in quotes. I always waited for my money to avoid fees, and started selling with stuff already in the house. eBay loans are for suckers - see "customer service" - if you can't trust them when a buyer is a scammer, why in HECK would you let them loan you money? I always had a separate account for eBay - kept their sticky fingers out of the main one if nothing else. (BTW - Pancho in the plush..Pancho looks like a plush!)

    Yeah it’s the same thing with anything you collect. You’re going to have winners and losers. Funkos can be very valuable especially if you know what to look for. I’d say your biggest hurdle is going to be that a lot of funko collectors want the box in good condition so it’s best to ship them well or you going to have some angry customers.

    I have a personal checking and one I call my eBay checking. Everything I earn goes into that eBay account and everything I spend money on for reselling is paid for out of that account...gas, boxes, bubble wrap, yard sales, auctions, estate sales, etc. I paid for my new phone from that account because my phone is primarily used for taking photos for eBay (it's my expensive camera 😂) and if I buy materials to use for cleaning goods (paper towels, etc.) I use that account. Everything remotely related to reselling goes into or comes out of that account and I can figure out the percentage of use for the "business" later. I'm saving for a cross country move in Nov. so the funds aren't "mine" in my head. I can't imagine trying to sort through one account to determine what was for reselling and what wasn't. I do the "transfer and wait a day" with my eBay funds and I transfer a few times a week. I don't like my money sitting in someone else's cash drawer 😉

Not bad if you have a few hundred dollars on ebay that you need ASAP to purchase some great inventory you find.

    I have 2 banks I work with, one for ebay and one for my personal bills. Saving and checking in both. I have taken signature loans from each bank. Either for weddings of grandchildren or eBay products. I would rather pay myself back than another loan company. I have ebay money going onto my checking account once a month.

    Recently started reselling myself and I opted to have ebay send my money to me every two weeks sorta like a standard pay check. Its worked well for me because it keeps some money in the ebay account to cover fees and shipping. I'm still small time so having 100-200 just setting there in an ebay account isn't hurting me. However I might feel different about it if I was making $1000 or a week.

    How do you keep the inspiration to push on? I’ve been doing this on a lower scale for years, more so as a hobby and mostly find it enjoyable. However, lately I feel like I’ve been being dealt bad cards. Shady sellers, lower selling prices, slower sells, ect. I know the economy is struggling and I’m not selling “need” items, but I’m just in a rough patch mentally and struggling with inspiration to press through the tough times. I do it to help with income and pay for my own collecting habits, however it’s starting to feel more like a bad job rather than a fun and fruitful side gig. Any words of wisdom when dealing with the storms of uncertainty?
