    If anyone is interested in becoming a cardiology/telemetry/endocrine RN, you're gonna need to know this info very well. You'll be dealing with many medications such as ACE inhibitors, ARBs, etc. due to the type of patient population you'll be taking care of on these specialty units.

    Such a great explanation! How do you study for need surg 2? Maybe you can do a video on that? My class doesn't have a blue print and the whole class is having such a difficult time learning ... Any help would be appreciated!

    • @NurseBass
      @NurseBass  8 років тому

      +Ariana Escobedo I just might have to do a video on this! Thank you for the recommendation! Med Surg can be difficult to study for, but in my opinion it's actually interesting stuff, so that makes it easier to study. I'll have to see what I can come up with for this topic! It's very hard to describe how I study for it. It's sort of the same as I've always studied. I just select the disease process that we're learning about, and then I study the pathophysiology of it, the clinical manifestations of the disease, and labs and diagnostic procedures that are associated with the disease. That's where I start at, until I firmly understand the disease and how to treat it.

    Why would someone get put on ace rather than arbs?

    • @NurseBass
      @NurseBass  8 років тому

      It's all ultimately the physician's call. That's basically what it boils down to lol

  • @mahadevanrangarajan5031
    @mahadevanrangarajan5031 5 років тому

    If the RAAS is getting activated to boost/stabilize BP then why are ACE inhibitors and ARBs being prescribed, are they not acting in contradiction to the RAAS? Will this not lead to lower BP again setting off another cycle of RAAS processes? Please clarify.

    • @NurseBass
      @NurseBass  5 років тому

      Mahadevan Rangarajan The medications are prescribed to block certain steps in the RAAS system, primarily for patients who have hypertension. You Block a step in the system, you lower BP in the hypertensive patient.

    • @mahadevanrangarajan5031
      @mahadevanrangarajan5031 5 років тому

      Thank u for your prompt response. This appears to be a chicken and egg situation. Can you please elaborate as to why a person with hypertension is prescribed an ACE inhibitor which acts on certain steps of the RAAS like you have wonderfully illustrated in your video? Can it be that the hypertension itself is an outcome of the efficiency of RAAS that you said is constantly working within the body, which causes the spike in BP? Then why involve medication to stifle this and lower the BP? I am kind of confused.

    • @mahadevanrangarajan5031
      @mahadevanrangarajan5031 5 років тому

      Just to add, I believe the prescription of the ACE inhibitor in the hypertensive patient is ostensibly targeted at the RAAS and if that is so, it is going to end up nullifying the efficiency of RAAS, is it not? The physician has obviously believed there is something wrong in the RAAS for prescribing an ACE inhibitor or else he may have as well prescribed beta blockers, calcium channel blockers etc. Or am I getting it all wrong, would appreciate your inputs please.

    • @mahadevanrangarajan5031
      @mahadevanrangarajan5031 5 років тому

      Nurse Bass Further more, if the trigger for RAAS activation is low perfusion/low BP, then why prescribe an ACE inhibitor since the BP is already high in an hypertensive patient due to which activation of RAAS need not take place.
