    I just threw this video together in regards to how to use the Manchu ring. It is a different beast compared to other archery thumb rings and I hope this helps anyone wanting to get into Manchu/Qing archery.

    I had to get up and grab my Manchu ring I made out of PVC (yes go ahead and laugh) and try it again. It had been sitting for months before I used it today. After having a better physical understanding of archery now then months ago when I made the ring, I was able to use it successfully. Thanks for the sudden inspiration. Wish we could loose some together

    pretty cool arrows you have bro, it would be much appreciated if you could do a review on them and which sites to purchase them from .
    Keep the vids coming though

      Thanks yeah it's not a bad idea to do something of an arrow review.

    Nice, I really appreciate your input here. I made two of these rings and I find it difficult to actually handle the arrows with the ring on. especially with me nt taking my eyes off the target and trying to be a little bit faster. Any suggestions ?
    Thanks...

    I'm still trying to figure out how you avoid snagging your glasses' frames with the string and sending them downrange.

      lol the string isn't totally against my face since that would otherwise be the case.

    Thank you for this. I'm getting into archery and like the idea of using a Manchu ring. However, I don't want my fingers "destroyed". Is the dark coloration of your thumb due to the use of this ring, because of damage to the finger, or...? Thanks.

    Nice. I am wondering why the ring is beveled so much. One would think it is not as fast.

    Why is the ring so wide? Wouldn't a ring only about a quarter of an inch wide work just as well and not affect the mobility of your thumb joint? Thx.

      My example is a thick ring and it works great for me but I have thinner walled rings too. For the thinner rings, I would advise that experienced Manchu release use them since they really are a hair trigger.
      Thumb mobility really doesn't matter with Manchu style release as you're keeping your thumb pretty much straight.

      The length of the ring is important so that you only bend your thumb a little to keep it in place

    Is it a good idea to buy any jade thumb ring and use it in archery like manchu ring? 🤔🤔

    • @SatsuRyu

      For shooting, I would not recommend jade rings. They are nice to look at, but jade is too slick for shooting. It has a high likelihood of flying off of your thumb. Moose antler is the best material but you can get wood, other antler types, or polymer rings.

    I also use manchu thumbring, idk if it was different design or whatever, but it hurt on my thumb joint, the string always pressing my skin.. did you experience this one? Unfortunately cant show you my thumb picture in this comment section.. 😔

    Do you press your thumb (or ring) against the middle finger?

    • @SatsuRyu
      @SatsuRyu  6 років тому

      It depends. If you're not using the technique where the side of the index finger tip is resting on top of the thumb nail, then I would apply light pressure from the ring into the side of the middle finger. That helps keeps the string behind the ring but the most important thing to keep the string in place is the counter clockwise twist.

      Does the ring has to be tight fit to your thumb to keep it in place from flying out? the string has a great pulling force on the thumb ring. Thx.

    • @SatsuRyu
      @SatsuRyu  6 років тому

      yiuhhsing gou it has to have a good fit. Doesn't have to be crushingly tight. The ring has to be able to stay on your thumb, but at the same time your thumb should be comfortable.

    Whenever I use a Manchu thumb ring, blood always seems to pool at the base of my thumb's nail. It doesn't hurt or anything, I was just wondering if you've experienced this too. I also use the straight thumb method btw with the thumb pushing out and up opposing the index pushing down and in.

    • @SatsuRyu
      @SatsuRyu  6 років тому +2

      Django I do actually but I think that was because I was using rings that were too tight. I think when you get a ring that is an ideal fit, like the one in the video for me, it shouldn't do that as much. Because I've seen other Manchu style archers and I don't think their thumbs get into that condition.

      SatsuRyu That makes sense. Still saving up money for a moose antler ring. Those things are expensive haha.

    • @SatsuRyu
      @SatsuRyu  6 років тому +1

      Yes they are. Mine was about $100 but it's worth every cent of it as a Manchu archery practitioner and even as a thumb ring archer. I really prefer this ring over the typical tear drop shaped ring that I'll use it on any Asiatic bow.
