This kind of video is exactly what I need! I get all of these questions when I meet Koreans in the US. It’s helpful to hear what the questions are in Korean so I can keep the conversation going without them having to switch back to English. It would also help to know what kinds of questions I can ask back to Koreans here in the US and the correct/polite way to say them. Thank you for great content!

I work at a Korean company and I get asked this question every time a new korean person comes to my office.. I literally had a Korean manager dropping his jaw yesterday when we met for the first time, and when we were talking business stuff in English, I suddenly switched to Korean..
He didn't even notice right away 😅 but when he did, he was shocked and started asking the typical questions such as "why are you so good in Korean?", "How did you learn", "You are so smart", "I gotta be careful when talking in front of you"...
I honestly try to answer such questions without sounding arrogant and over the top, but I genuinely enjoy making Korean people surprised when I speak their language lol

I visited Korean Zombie's gym in Gangnam and sparred with one of the instructors. He asked if I speak Korean, to which I responded 조금 밖에 못해요. He looked slightly surprised and gave me the classic 한국말 잘하시네요. I was proud to elicit that reaction lol.

Every Korean person so far has just been very sweet about learning the language. They appreciated the effort!

"What part of the cow do Americans like to eat?" Actually it was only one person who asked me that but it stuck with me.
"Do you know that Korea has four seasons?!" 😮😆

yeah i went to seoul in may and when a (rather tipsy) local started talking to me, the first thing she asked me was "who's your k-pop bias?" hahah

I've had Koreans on the Tandem app ask me why I wanted to learn Korean. And I usually say I like the language, but also, I want to visit South Korea, and also have it on my Resume as my second language.

This format is super nice for a beginner like me, to watch people speak "common sentences" while reading the subtitles, I can catch some words I know while connecting them with the conversation, it helps a lot!! Can you (and the people in the comments) recommend videos where i can watch people speak some basic Korean ? Movies are yet too difficult for my level...

I am half Korean. I think I do slightly look Korean, however when I have told new Korean friends that I'm half Korean, they don't believe me so I have to show them a picture of my mom to prove it. :) Haha Then they ask me if I know Korean and when I would say "no," they'd shake their heads. I'm learning now, been studying for a year thanks to you and other Korean online programs. I still need to practice speaking though.

Hahahaha. Kimchi. Park JI SUNG. Some Koreans are seeing such questions as corny and old school things. Showing insecurity. Do you know 김치? Try try

Great video! I actually didn't know that I was asking similar questions to a korean family who made their home here where i live. 😅 Not all but some like "how do you like the food here?" "What's your favorite?" etc. But the mother of this family doesn't speak fluent english but can understand it well. She was so happy that she could converse Korean with me (with what Korean i do know). Her questions to me were: how old i am, siblings, do i have a boyfriend. She also said i lost weight (from last time she saw me) and said i was pretty haha i thought that was the most korean thing to say given the amount of kdramas i watched. Am i wrong?😅😂

Anyone asking me how old I am gets to guess first or I won’t say (unless it’s for some official purpose). Don’t care what place it is.
