Thanks Cyndi, this beautiful song takes me back to 1984 when I was 7 years old and played with my friends from the neighborhood while your voice sounded on my neighbors' radios. I would like to feel that magic of those years again at least for a second.
When you make a cover version of a song, make it sound original. That’s what Cyndi and her team did with Jules Schear’s song. And Jules sounds great harmonizing the Cyndi and singing the wordless falsetto on the outro. Hauntingly beautiful. A sign of a very good song like Jules’s song is that it can be sung/performed in different ways and still sound great. Cyndi’s version is so different and so well done that it makes the original song sounds like a cover of Cyndi’s.version: ua-cam.com/video/5gXSJ8LGwrM/v-deo.html

@@plawson8577 I had the album, which was released in 1983. I believe you are referring to when this song was released on the radio as a single, but the album had been out since 83.

Ah, I was there. It was Cyndi and Madonna, who would last. Cyndi kept her voice, and Madonna went flat. Cyndi is in no way underrated. She is iconic. She sang songs that touched us in a non corporate approved way. She-Bop.

I still have an original cassette of Cindy Lauper's music. It's been in the family for, gosh, 40 years! Earlier this year I purchased an old cassette player and listened to the whole album. When this particular song played I broke down and cried. I remembered falling asleep to this song when I was 2, maybe 3 years old. And 40 years later, as a middle aged man, I still like listening to this song whenever I'm tired and need to de-stress from the outside world. And I don't know if it's long too late to reach out, but Ms. Cindy, thank you! I'll do my best to keep that cassette going another 40 years.

This song was my childhood. Driving back from the beach with the afternoon sun streaming in, all my cousins sleeping next to me and Dad at the wheel with this song playing in the golden car. Miss you Dad xx
@@Apjooz I wish this were true. Actually "All Through The Night" was originally written and recorded by Jules Shear. He wrote it as a folk rock song for his 1983 album 'Watch Dog'. But I like what you said better. I would have loved it if Jules had written this song for Cyndi.🙏💖
Cyndi, if you see this, this song was written the year I was born. When I first heard it, I was just a little girl no more than 3 or 4 years old. Maybe younger. I used to listen to it on repeat on my record player. I still remember how I would pick the needle up and play it back over and over again. I have spent countless hours listening to this song, and many of your other songs of course. Yet, this song…after all this time, is still my favorite. I still love it just as much to this day. I just wanted to say, thank you from the bottom of my heart. You and your music has always touched me somewhere deep in my soul and it always will. I am forever grateful to you. You have actually shaped a part of who I am. ❤
I can t describe how this makes me so happy and is deeply heartbreaking at the same time. I have never known this feeling till I first heard the song. A masterpiece
I was driving in my car on a dark starry night with my first love, and this song came over the radio as we paused to take it all in. I'll never forget that memory.
Andrew Joseph Dotson damn that’s a wonderful memory, thanks for sharing that. I wasn’t even there, and still I know it must have been a very surreal moment.
Cyndi Lauper absolutely marked my teen years. Then, I was a young girl just partying without a worry in the world, untill my father died. And here I am today, at the age of 58, still enjoying this song as if it was the 80's again.
i, too, have met a lot of patients with disabilities, and just like you, when i hear them say something is 'pretty' or 'beautiful' it never fails to make me smile, but for some reason also makes me shed a tear or two, i don't really know why..
What a wonderful comment... Thanks a lot. There's doctors. All professionals. But then, there's also those that by working and caring for special needs people, somehow touch the patient's heart and get to hear from time to time, the music that touch their souls in such a way that the most simple expression contains a world of love and life meaning. Congratulations. You, yeah you...
I remember once I was grieving over the loss of some one I loved and this song came on the radio and I could feel myself falling into this amazing, really poignant heart rendering song and I felt strangely uplifted . The unique sound of the instruments and Cindy's powerful voice can really pull me out of a dark place. I heard this song again today on our radio.
All through the night I'll be awake And I'll be with you All through the night This precious time When time is new Oh All through the night today Knowing that we feel the same Without saying We have no past, we won't reach back Keep with me forward all through the night And once we start the meter clicks And it goes running all through the night Until it ends, there is no end All through the night Stray cat is crying So stray cat sings back All through the night They have forgotten What binding they lack Oh Under those white street lamps There is a little chance they may see We have no past, we won't reach back Keep with me forward all through the night And once we start the meter clicks And it goes running all through the night Until it ends, there is no end Oh The sleep in your eyes is enough Let me be there, let me stay there a while We have no past, we won't reach back Keep with me forward all through the night And once we start the meter clicks And it goes running all through the night Until it ends, there is no end
in the 80s it was common to see punks, when i was a kid i loved their aesthetics, never saw cindi as a pop figure like Madonna she always represented to me rebel side, dream side and honest side of music, her music had that new wave punk pop dream feel. she was def no clone, that's why she lasts. thank u for ur gift cindi.
Being Brazilian and northeastern and loving international music so much, I think that in past lives I was American, because I love a place I've never been to... it can only be memories from other lives. I love Cindy
I’m an American and I can tell you our country is not just a place… it’s a spirit and state of mind. Be American, in spirit and be part of our international friendship ❤❤❤
I teared up reading your post. Everything that America is and stands for has become at risk, which has me mourning the true meaning and spirit we all feel deep within. Thank you for your kind comment.
When I was a teenager in the 80's I hung out with the metal heads, we listened to Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. But I had a Cyndi Lauper cassette tape that I listened to when no one was around. I've always thought she was amazing.
Can't believe you outed yourself. lol Never had the album/cassette, but it was great to hear her on the radio when they played her. This song wasn't as popular as most of her other hits, but I always liked this the most. Well, Time After Time pretty much a tie. In the 80s, there were lots of people who liked the whole spectrum. Don't feel bad. You're not alone.
A timeless song, and an anthem to some of the sweetest days of my life. It puts a lump in my throat, ever time I hear it. Thank you Cyndi for your angelic voice.
Heard this song this morning at the super market and immediately remembered it. This song literally sent cold chills through my body. I was born in the early 90's but I do love music from the 60's 70's 80's and 90's. I have such an old soul. This is by far the greatest song you have ever sang hats off to you =).
I Found this song last year when I was homeless, depressed, & struggling with addiction. And now when I hear this song it just reminds me that I made it past the storm 🧡🌴 Edit: wow, thank you for all of the outpouring love! It’s been a little over a year. Still going strong!
The writer wrote this song in a hurry to go out and party in london. Sad that this guy had more talent even in a hurry than most artists in 2019 have in their whole bodies
All through the night I'll be awake and I'll be with you All through the night This precious time when time is new Oh, all through the night today Knowing that we feel the same without saying We have no past, we won't reach back Keep with me forward all through the night And once we start the meter clicks And it goes running all through the night Until it ends, there is no end All through the night Stray cat is crying so stray cat sings back All through the night They have forgotten what by day they lack Oh under those white street lamps There is a little chance they may see We have no past, we won't reach back Keep with me forward all through the night And once we start the meter clicks And it goes running all through the night Until it ends, there is no end Oh the sleep in your eyes is enough Let me be there let me stay there awhile We have no past, we won't reach back Keep with me forward all through the night And once we start the meter clicks And it goes running all through the night Until it ends there is no end Keep with me forward all through the night And once we start the meter clicks And it goes running all through the night Until it ends there is no end
When I was a young kid growing up in the 80's, I used to play this song over and over. There is something just so mesmerizing and emotional about the instruments and the vocals together. ♥️
I'm 43. I can listen to music from my childhood all day while working but as soon as I hear this woman's music the feelings and memories just explode! An artistic gem 💎
Ms. Lauper has never received the recognition and admiration for her work. Truly one of my top ten. And I'm 73 so I remember dancing to this in the 1980's. Thank you Cyndi.
Nothing but childhood memories in the 80s . A kid in the back seat with no sense of geography or direction, just lost in the music staring out the window
Yeah,we when would play outside, none of this of playing video games, like what kids do now, todays kids, would have never survived the 80s,like cell phones,I never had a cell phone when I was a kid,yes there where cell phones back then, but they where as big as a brick and cost over 1000 dollars, back then that was alot of money, anyhow, like I said, kids today, would have not servived the 80s.
I agree with you though Cyndi is a few years older than I am, not by much. The 80s will always be remembered to be the best years ever. From my understanding the 70s and before was no comparison and the 90s and after were for sure no comparison for sure. The 80s was indeed the best decade to live through without question. My childhood was complete in these years. I made one of the USA National teams in the last year's of the 80s after winning national tournaments all through the mid 80s as a young teen and once I made the national team living at the Olympic training center in Colorado springs after relocating there from Florida immediately the day after I graduated high school as my parents would not send me until I graduated and I am actually happy they did not, I was about to tour America, Canada and Europe enjoying my time with all of you in our age group from a wide variety of cities & towns everywhere during my time off from the team that made it just that more enjoyable spending the time with you all. I personally want to thank you all for the wonderful times you all shared not only with me but with each other in the 1980s, thank you so much. May I ask all of you what year each of you graduated in? I graduated here in Florida in 1987 myself.
I love how at the 3:31 mark she holds the note for 12 powerful seconds and then the pleasant trail off and wrap-up beginning at 3:44 of this great song that is often overlooked on 80's era radio playlists.
I love Cyndi Lauper a hundred times more than Madonna. She's so adorable. But she's not better, judt different. How many awesome songs has Madonna had from the 80's up to now ? But Cyndi Lauper is My favourite Her songs make us more emotional ❤
Her message still stands: Be yourself and express yourself in ways that are unique to your own interpretation of the world. And don't apologize for it, either.
I'm a teenager now (obviously wasn't alive in the 80s) & this is only like my second time hearing this song... But it really sparks something inside me that I can't really figure out
This is from Yahoo answers, and it makes sense to me: "We have no past, we won't reach back. Keep with me forward all through the night. And once we start, the meter clicks, and it goes running all through the night." I think you're asking if "keep with me forward" or "the meter clicks" were some kind of '80s slang that were popularly understood at the time and had some special meaning. The answer is no. I was a junior in high school when that song came out, and I never heard these words anywhere but this song. I think the lyrics are simply poetic - expressing a kind of urgency and free spiritedness of someone young who wants to "live in the moment" and forget about the past if only for just one night. In these lyrics, she's coaxing or urging someone (the listener) to go with her. "Keep with me forward" is a plea for you (of whoever she's singing to) to embrace the optimism with her, to join her on this night of escapism, fun, love, whatever. "And once we start, the meter clicks" I think is a reference to taxicab meters and the way they click off the minutes (or parts of minutes) that you, the rider, will have to pay for. In this way, Lauper really emphasizes the urgency of making the most of every moment. The more clicks, the more expensive the trip. And because "it goes running all through the night," it's as if she's being chased by the constant reminder that time is precious and must be spent well. Horton · 6 years ago
I mean ya this is where the gos music very few songs from the 80s ive been able to listen to and not feel something good inside. Back then talent was everywhere with magical songs that touched the soul. With what do we have now hotline bling? Whipping? Dabbing? Oh god no. This time was where its at
Her and Boy George stole their respective Christmas Afrika benefit songs. Who woulda thunk it? Damn Ray Charles and The Boss were there. On the Brit side I'll give George Michael and the Duran Duran Guy, Simon Lebon an honorable mention.
Reminds me of being in HighSchool, me and my girlfriend sneaking out in the winter nights to be together....where ever you are I just want to say thank you for spending those cold A.M. hours with me...precious time, when time is new...Thank you( And, Thank you GOD for keeping us safe )

I was 10 years old when this was released. This song makes me cry for that little girl. Such a beautiful song ❤️
This song was my childhood. Driving back from the beach with the afternoon sun streaming in, all my cousins sleeping next to me and Dad at the wheel with this song playing in the golden car. Miss you Dad xx
"Until it ends, there is no end"
Great lyric.
Great songwriter and performer!
this is actually a cover of a jules shear song. she, of course, made the song her own.
Not exactly a cover, it was written for Lauper or atleast she was the first to record it.
80s Music!!!!! The freakin BEST!!!
It's decent but oldies are the best. And I was born in the 80s.
Love the way she holds the note at the end, always gives me goosebumps.
Yes almost like roy orbison
Me too...she holds the hell out of that note!!
Yes, I thought I was the only one!.😄🎙🎵🎶
@@viciousKev his voice was falsetto.
yes

You detected this is a very very special song......you are correct.
Until it end, there is no end.
Why is it heartbreaking? I don't get it
I totally agree you said that perfectly. Was a long time ago seems like yesterday
They don't understand do they? All those lights
I was driving in my car on a dark starry night with my first love, and this song came over the radio as we paused to take it all in. I'll never forget that memory.
Andrew Joseph Dotson that's so sweet 😊 love memories like that
Nice
You, sir, are a lucky bastard. 😎😎😎😎
Andrew Joseph Dotson damn that’s a wonderful memory, thanks for sharing that. I wasn’t even there, and still I know it must have been a very surreal moment.
What's his name? Lol
Only music like this has the ability to bring back the most powerful emotions from childhood whether they be good or bad.
Cyndi Lauper
Cyndi Lauper absolutely marked my teen years. Then, I was a young girl just partying without a worry in the world, untill my father died. And here I am today, at the age of 58, still enjoying this song as if it was the 80's again.
De verdad que es primera vez que la escucho y me ah gustado esa música.
I’m with ya! Best times ever and the best music 🎶
I can totally relate. Cyndi was a decisive influence in my teenage years, in a remote ass country, and I am thankful for this...
One of my disabled patients would always describe this song as "the pretty song that goes slow and then fast" which always made me smile.
i, too, have met a lot of patients with disabilities, and just like you, when i hear them say something is 'pretty' or 'beautiful' it never fails to make me smile, but for some reason also makes me shed a tear or two, i don't really know why..
1983
What a wonderful comment... Thanks a lot. There's doctors. All professionals. But then, there's also those that by working and caring for special needs people, somehow touch the patient's heart and get to hear from time to time, the music that touch their souls in such a way that the most simple expression contains a world of love and life meaning. Congratulations. You, yeah you...
Quien me dice , que paso con ella. Buena música la conocí fue hoy.
God bless you real good!

So glad I grew up in the 80s. Would h8 to be a teen now.

All through the night
I'll be awake
And I'll be with you
All through the night
This precious time
When time is new
Oh
All through the night today
Knowing that we feel the same
Without saying
We have no past, we won't reach back
Keep with me forward all through the night
And once we start the meter clicks
And it goes running all through the night
Until it ends, there is no end
All through the night
Stray cat is crying
So stray cat sings back
All through the night
They have forgotten
What binding they lack
Oh
Under those white street lamps
There is a little chance they may see
We have no past, we won't reach back
Keep with me forward all through the night
And once we start the meter clicks
And it goes running all through the night
Until it ends, there is no end
Oh
The sleep in your eyes is enough
Let me be there, let me stay there a while
We have no past, we won't reach back
Keep with me forward all through the night
And once we start the meter clicks
And it goes running all through the night
Until it ends, there is no end

I was born in 1983 and I just turned 37 at the end of the year.....so 37 years of Cyndi Lauper’s Through the Night!!!!
in the 80s it was common to see punks, when i was a kid i loved their aesthetics, never saw cindi as a pop figure like Madonna she always represented to me rebel side, dream side and honest side of music, her music had that new wave punk pop dream feel. she was def no clone, that's why she lasts. thank u for ur gift cindi.
Girls Just Want to Have Fun was an anthem for young girls at the time.
Im Southern man of Brasil, feel free on the most 80's treasures, enjoy...
Don't be fooled it's a daydream sold by the CIA
I teared up reading your post. Everything that America is and stands for has become at risk, which has me mourning the true meaning and spirit we all feel deep within. Thank you for your kind comment.

When I was a teenager in the 80's I hung out with the metal heads, we listened to Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. But I had a Cyndi Lauper cassette tape that I listened to when no one was around. I've always thought she was amazing.
I'm the same except for now instead of the 80s. We always would listen to Metallica and megadeth and such but I always had a thing for Cyndi Lauper
You're not alone.
that's awesome! I was the same but instead of Cyndi Lauper a buddy of mine found a New Kids cassette in my pocket LOL. busted.
I was in High school years were in the 80's. Manudo was my secret tape lol. Hadn't thought about that in years...

Those are the most special memories. 😢
I miss being a kid. The 80s were an incredible time
Living in northern Ireland during bombing shootings and the music from the 80"s 90's and 2000 took us away from it all.
I miss it too. I had a really tough time. Kids can be cruel and the world can be too, but at the same time i had a lot of good moments.
I graduated here in Florida in 1987 myself.
did you have kids? What do they think of your music?
I love how at the 3:31 mark she holds the note for 12 powerful seconds and then the pleasant trail off and wrap-up beginning at 3:44 of this great song that is often overlooked on 80's era radio playlists.
so impressive she can hold that note so perfectly and her singing makes the song awesome
I miss the 80's! Possibly the best decade of music! Seems like everything was better during that time!

This is from Yahoo answers, and it makes sense to me: "We have no past, we won't reach back. Keep with me forward all through the night. And once we start, the meter clicks, and it goes running all through the night."
I think you're asking if "keep with me forward" or "the meter clicks" were some kind of '80s slang that were popularly understood at the time and had some special meaning.
