  • Patio season is here! I'm a renter, so I like to come up with DIYs for small spaces, that are affordable, and of course renter friendly (aka not permanent). I came up with this table & planter duo that simply rests on your balcony railing. It's removable and narrow, which is perfect for apartments that tend to come with small balconies. Using every bit of space is important--and I know that!
    What do you think of this solution for a table for our small space?
    Wood measurements
    Top:
    1"x3" - 3 ft
    Table side:
    1"x10" - 3 ft
    1"x6" - 3 ft
    Planter Side:
    1"x10" - 2.5 ft (2 pieces)
    1"x6" - 9 1/4" (2 pieces)
    1"x2" - approx. 5 1/4" (could use 1"x3" scrap for this as well)

    I love it! Add some stencil design with a pretty color to it to make it more dramatic....add pink!

    That is stunning, Sweetheart. I love how cosy and inviting your patio looks. I’m particularly fond of the mustard yellow pop of colour on the cushions. A couple of questions for you; that painting behind you.. did you paint that? If so, is there a video or could you please do one on how to create that beautiful piece? Also, can you please think of something for a “headboard?” I think I mentioned I’m making over our master bedroom, boho kinda thing is my preferred style. I’d love to have something I can create or diy myself. I know you’re incredibly creative and imaginative so I thought you’d be the best person to ask.xxx

      Laura Filby thank you so much Laura. I did not paint that painting... I’m not quite that talented! Haha I purchased it from
      IKEA 1.5-2 years ago. I don’t know if they still have it. As for the headboard! I may be able to help out with an idea-I’m hoping to redo our mini spare room...but not sure when-it’s a BIG project! This might just kick my butt into getting it done sooner! Haha

    This is amazing. I am interested in doing something similar but my deck has a thicker 2x4 type of railing along the top. I wonder if this could somehow be modified to work for this type of railing? Awesome job!!! So lovely!

      Absolutely! You’d just have to do some measurements to accommodate for the thicker board! But looking at mine right now it actually looks like my railing is very similar to a 2x4. So my measurements could work..but I would suggest measuring first!

    Hi! This is exactly what I want to make for our balcony. Do you have an update on the sturdiness? After some time have you noticed your shelf to get loose or sag? I’ve been looking at different metal brackets to incorporate because I’m worried the shelf needs more stability

    I love this! I always wanted to do diy projects. How do you know much wood to use and what sizes to make them?

    • @toDIYfor
      @toDIYfor  3 роки тому +1

      I’m not sure I can explain it much better than the diagram I showed in the video. The most important measurement is how wide is your railing. That will help determine the width of the board you use for the top. You want it to be a snug fit. As for the rest.. it’s up to you how big of a flower box/table you want. I wouldn’t suggested using a wider board than the one I did for the “table/shelf”.

    Do you think this would work without the planter part?

    • @toDIYfor
      @toDIYfor  3 роки тому

      Yeah for sure! I would just suggest to make the length of the board you use instead to go down as far as I did with the planter to help counter balance the weight you may end up putting on the table.
