- This is definitely one of the best tourist spots I have been to in the Philippines. Apayao is home to many caves, and this one in Luna has an enchanted underground river that you can easily access and explore!
Sitting just minutes from the main road, you can drive up and hop into one of their unique local boats... that will take you into an enchanting paradise! If you want, you can actually make your way through the cave system, and pop out in the jungle! Your guides will ask you if you want the "easy way" or "hard way:". And yes, there are LOTS OF TREES here in Apayao... the natural environment is beautiful!
This underground river in the Philippines is BEAUTIFUL.

To be honest (and not being selfish or anything), I wish we could keep it that way. We tend to destroy these beautiful places as we visit them.

I just read the names of Provinces in our elementary textbooks before. It used to be called. Kalinga-Apayao Province. Now, I see how beautiful the province is. I bet it's even more beautiful and pristine 40 years ago.

Acting on a vague tip from fellow travelers we shared a boat with in Palaui, we visited Marag Valley. Luna in 2017, not really knowing what to expect. I remember climbing over rocks and hanging on ropes for dear life inside the cave (forgot the name) in darkness aided only by flashlight. Unexpectedly, we reached a bright underwater river/pool deep inside the cave with vegetation! A hole in the cave lets sunlight pass through, providing light to the pool inside the cave. First time I ever swam inside a cave as the water was crazy clear. It was surreal.
