Fun fact about fighting old people, they didnt get old by losing
They got old by avoiding violence
@@me-xm6lpOr beating it.
He doesn’t look very old. Grey haired maybe, but he still looks good.
@@frankknox9127I hope that’s what the person that tries me thinks lol
Truth!
How do you expect to win against someone with a moustache that fancy?
What a dapper looking gentleman.
The funny thing is, I was on that shoot (the doctor with the mutton chops), and when I ran into Brian a couple of weeks later, he'd shaved it and I didn't recognize him!
@@samsignorelli what’s the name of the movie
@@renzofalcon7276 It was a sizzle reel for a hopeful TV series. Not my project, and AFAIK I'm still bound by the non-disclosure agreement...I don't remember much about the details anyway, tbh.
MUSTACHE - POWER ! ! !
I approve this gentleman's moustache
Never go up against an old man in a fighting profession. He is old because nobody could defeat him.
You could tell from the beginning the older male was going to win. The older male fought a warrior, he used every tool and took advantages of openings to knee, punch and engage his opponent. He essentially did all the right moves from the get go.
Feels like he was a military veteran, from whichever country this is.
Also, he had an exquisite moustache.
@@martinharris4352 THAT is what gives power to a real manly man with a sword...
You can’t touch your moustache like that without winning.
Brian Monk stabbed his challenger through the heart from a downward access point between the collarbone and neck. Same as Achilles vs Boagrius in Troy.
Heh....on one of the earlier takes, Brian channeled the German soldier who killed Mellish in "Saving Private Ryan," softly telling Sam it'd be all over soon.
Everybody wants to be a gangster...until your evil duel opponent twerks his villain-stash.
For people who like this clip. Watch The Duelist 1977 by Ridley Scott. Brilliant movie.
Excellent movie!
Again...those are smallswords, not rapiers.
Most people don't know the difference. You show them an arming sword and they'll say broadsword.
Just enjoy the fight.
sam signorelli that's why we should advocate for accurate depictions of sword combat, as a fencer, coach, and filmmaker, I disagree
Thanks for pointing that out (pun intended) They looked a lot smaller than what I thought a rapier would be.
@@samsignorelli That's a gross, stupidly wrong thing to say. A broadsword and arming sword are not only completely different swords, but come from different time periods and look completely different too.
@@MundusMeus974 To someone who understands the differences, yes. To the average person who does NOT understand, there's no difference between an arming sword, a rapier, or a cutlass....they're all "swords."
Don't be pedantic about it.
As a test....what's the difference between these 2 brass instruments?

G'head....I'll wait.
Excellent job, both on the actors and cinematographers part!
Looks like the villain won.
I liked that 🥰🥰
Every boy has dreamed about a rapier duel for a fair maiden
Those are smallswords, not rapeirs though.....
This doesn't seem like a duel over a maiden, more like a vengeance (perhaps for defamation, that produced some of the most brutal duels back in the day).
You assume too much.
And it seems this was such a case. Usually duells were to first blood. But in those to the death, quarrel involving women were usual, as the lover vs. the cheated husband
Not rapier fencing, but smallsword. I guess this is what epee fencing would look like without rules.
@WenTian Guo I disagree. While it is correct that foil was created as pactice weapon for the smallsword, it is much more flexible and also lighter. The epee is much more alike smallsword, which also was the intention. The weight of a modern epee (or 19th century epee de combat) is not much different from a smallsword.
@WenTian Guo While the fencing epee can weigh up to 770 grams, most fencing epees used for competitions weigh far less, up to around 500 g. But since the most relevant comparison would be epee de combat, I assume most of them would be a bit heavier, so your example of 700 g is not far off. Anyway, epee is also not exactly the same as smallsword even if the intention was for a weapon more alike smallsword (compared to foil). Probably best explained in the Schola Gladiatora YT videos by Matt.
Are we serious? If we are discussing form then why is one blocking from around his back (especially from an attack that comes for his torso). We also see a lot of vertical cuts that telegraph a lot and some brawling. About the swords themselves I believe they are smallswords (at least based from the hilts as the blades in length and shape don't resemble smallswords)
just hoping out loud it was the bully who lost !!!
We wished so, too! 😜
it may look exaggerated but this has happened at least once in history
Sword duels should be brought back into society.
Maybe learn to shave before attempting a swordfight.
@@hannesromhild8532lol good point
I am an old fencing champion. If you are interested join a fencing club. There are a lot everywhere in the world. Very nice sport
@@FrancoisCharlier-j5w Thank you for sharing this with me. It has been a interest for years but I haven't had the opportunity to pursue it
Yep! Smallswords again!!
Cool scene. KILLER mustache.
A thought: shakey cam is to action scenes what jumpscares are to horror movies.
THANK YOU. They have their place but are widely over-used.
Really nice! Congrats on the production and quality, quite enjoyable :)
One thing though: why does the title say "rapier" if they are using smallswords? Very diferent kind of swords (rapiers are a lot bifier, weighting twice or thrice as much, with bigger and longer blades, and more elaborated guards).
I believe rapier is used here as a generic term for a mainly thrusting weapon of the 16th and 17th C. You are correct that we are using smallswords here, but the choreography employs some cuts which are more indicative of an edged weapon. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment!
Yeah they kinda look like spadroons
Nobody knows what a smallsword is and if they named it that I would have never found this channel by searching 'rapier duel'
@@BrianMonk yeah, it really bugs me that its misinformation
@@Ceremor link at the bottom.
Smallsword is a classification of thrusting blades used in certain centuries.
If I recall, they became popular as a dueling/civilian carry weapon as the rapier faded out of use.

I was going to ask why it said "male" but then I saw the video below that said "female" and it all made sence
The aim was not to kill the adversaire but just to injure him !
The blood was enough to clean the insult.... The death was not to reach ....
The aim, as always, was to settle a quarrel between honourable men. In this particular matter honourable means able to give satisfaction. And the seconds previously did all the agreement, i.e. weapons, time, place, first blood, death, etc. An honourable man like the older man seems to be, would have never killed an opponent if the rules were set otherwise by the seconds.
Damn fine choreography
Good camera work.
Brian is terrifying. Have you ever faced a man in lethal combat? If you did, you would’ve run from this guy the moment you saw him. If you dare your life, ofc.
If you are close enough to kick and punch your opponent one of you would be run through first.
Why the heck does this only have 10k views?
Old man has some fight in him
That's no Rapier, it is a Small Sword, but the video is really cool.
At first I thought that Christoph Waltz was in the preview
Beautiful
The youngster was taught an old school lesson...
Shame he won’t live to teach this lesson to youngsters.
i get why its done like that but as a fencer, the telegraphing still gets to me
When a read Male, it was then I knew I was about to see true content
There's hardly anything new the youngster brings to the game that the oldster has not seen before
Actually it's not a short but a small sword duel
You picked a fight with Colonel Monstery, didn't you? Don't pick a fight with Colonel Monstery. You know it will end badly.
Do you really think it’s a good idea to duel someone who looks like a fencing teacher?
I don't get it. How can you tell what gender the rapier is?
Old age and treachery, don't fck with grey hairs there's a reason they're old
No KFC for you young man
Aaaaand this is not how you do your smallsword fencing.
When is female rapier duel coming out
Is this as movie or show what’s the name
So did he delete him or what? Can't tell.
Anyone know where to find the soundtrack/music to this?
Most duels were fought only to first blood. The point was to satisfy honor, not to kill a man. This man looks like a psychopath, enjoying unnecessary kill.
did he actually kill his opponent? I put this on slow-motion and there was no thrust inward-bound move, he removed the blade angrily without stabbing his opponent
Small swords not rapiers
Those are smallswords, not rapiers.
'Male Rapier Duel' 99.99% of duelists were male. Males are the status quo. A bit redundant title there.
The title is to differentiate this fight from the other 4 we shot that day...2 guys in a knife fight, 2 guys in a pistol duel, a guy and girl in a pistol duel, and 2 girls in a rapier/dagger fight.
Sword duel?! Using fists and knees? Are you joking?
This is a small-sword duel, not rapier.
Thise are smallswords not rapiers
레이피어 아니고, 스몰소드입니다
당신 말이 확실히 맞아요.
There is not one rapier to be seen here.
False clickbait title....
Those look more like rapiers
Jesus vs Colnel Sanders HAHAHAHA
😂
Why moustached gentleman so angry.
Because the younger guy dissed his stache. He takes pride in that stache. Takes him an hour every morning to make it look just right.
co to ma być??? kłótnia kochanków?
Welp, he’s dead.
I do not get why the younger man did not use his sword to slash at the older gentleman at the end. One hand on the younger man's throat and the other obviously on his own sword.
The younger man still held onto, per the video clip at least, his own sword and then holding into the older man's hand at his throat. Not sure the issue unless a previously wound did not allow the younger man to lift up his sword arm anymore.
One: terror. Two: the older man (he's Colonel Monstery, I know it) is too close. It's difficult to find a way to wind up a cut, you'd need to recruit your shoulders into the work, and the younger man's rather disinclined to move his shoulders much at that point.
Or a nut shot. Not sure on the gentleman's agreement, but yea... 😅
Although you are right about terror. But I like to think stubbornness would win out. He died, but he took the others crushed nuts with him... 🌰🌰 🔨 Then the older man would really have a reason to give those unsavory looks. 😂
father va son
Deke
Thats dumb wearing white means sign of showing blood means you lost and if you had to get that close in any fight using fists that much you werent profecient in your craft unless your duel weilding
Wearing white to show a sign of blood is the respectful way to do it, cheating by hiding the touch is disrespectful
its called a first blood duel, the more common form of settling a dispute, as both men do not want to die, the first to get cut loses, its ore honorable than killing your opponent
and at the time when duels were being fought, white shirts signified that you could afford quality clothes, so these men would have been of high standing
@@kevinmorrice I believe it's mostly the last thing you said as weirdly many duels in the period of the rapier were to the death and not to first blood unlike earlier and later times (there's some mention about this on some manuscripts)
This fight has a gross quality to it.
This is not a rapier
It is a spadroon.
Very bad done. Next time try to be assisted by historical fencing expert not by theathral fencer. 😮
This seems binary. DISLIKE
