My comment is not about this video, but I wanted to leave some comments about your teaching, in general. I'm going on 70 years old and have played guitar, not very well, since I was 16. I recently bought a new electric guitar and decided to start all over as a student, but where I live there is no one teaching. From watching you, I finally found the reason I have done so poorly. I was always one who thought that poor fundamentals could be overcome by desire. I thought that I could take shortcuts, hacks and the like, and somehow become a virtuoso. That's just my personality. The bad part is, it has worked for me in other areas of my life. From you I realized that it can't be done with music/guitar.
So, I'm following your teaching, usually 3 sessions per day. I know scales, and some theory, but I'm setting that aside to start all over with fundamentals. Major scale. Triads. Your single string exercises. Much more. I'm correcting my bad habits. Now, I do spend a few minutes in the morning and evening practicing phrasing and just noodling around with ideas, but even there I am incorporating timing, fingering, oh, and "Do Re Mi" singing the intervals. My opinion is you are the best teacher out there. I am making the most progress ever, I'm even stretching into modes and arpeggios, in theory. Thank you for all you do, and for your wisdom on learning and keeping motivation.
    All the best to you.

Thanks so much for your comment. So happy to hear that. We all want to play well & fast (include myself!) But it won't work well deeply for a long time. I have been teaching more than 30 years and I saw so many guitarists own bad habits. My job is not only teaching how to play guitar but also teach how to fix those bad habits & adding more foundation than anything advanced things. That's I am building more "Foundation" section at my Guitar Wisdom. I am hoping that my Guitar Wisdom site will help many passionate guitars from young to old with my Foundation method. If you can notice this, never late to learn & change things. Thank you!

Was in a rock band during high school. Always played by ear and can't read music. Since I am retired I watch a lot of UA-cam videos to continue my music education. Technically you speak better proper English than most people born here, you don't use lazy street slang and that puts you a cut above a lot of us. You have remnants of the accent from the country you grew up in, but that is all. You can hold your head high because your actual command of the English language is excellent. I've been crunching some numbers and it is worth it for me as a Canadian to get a Stu Mac membership for the free shipping let alone the 10 percent discount on all orders. For these reasons the Wilkinson kits are almost impossible to beat value wise, I might need to get one.

Tomo, Is there any chance that you could do a youtube video dedicated to proper picking technique: hand position, finger position, etc. I never know, for instance, whether the pad of my index finger should be behind the pick or whether it should be the finger joint behind the pick. You have such a beautiful light touch. If you could begin to convey how to get that touch, so many of us would be grateful.

@@TomoFujitaMusic Hi Tomo, A couple of quick comments. First, the youtubes you are providing are a real godsend. I hope you realize how much joy you are creating in the world by letting beginner and intermediate guitar players have access to such a wonderful teacher. You help end our frustrations and lead us forward in our journey to better be able to do what we love. Thank you. But regarding picking. Yes, I watched again the recommended videos. And while they are helpful, I still have questions. So many questions. Regarding holding the pick, is the back of the pick (the part touching the finger) directly on the knuckle of the index finger, or does it slide down a bit so that it is more in between the knuckle and the pad of the finger? It might seem like a minor difference, but my hunch is that it matters quite a bit. What would be really helpful is if you could give us a camera shot of hold the pick "from the back," that is not looking from the perspective of where you face the thumbnail, but from the other side, where you see the back of the thumb and can better see where it meets the finger. The next question is how precisely does the pick impact the string? Is it flat against the string and perpendicular to the string, or is it somewhat angled (I see on youtube that many "shredders" recommend an angled picking technique, but I'm more interested in what you recommend)? Next, how do you keep the pick from going too deeply into the strings and keep it instead at a consistent depth. When I sense that my pick is going in too deep, I get sort of a hopping or bouncing pick action that I don't think is desirable and surely isn't economical. So many questions!!! Thanks for your wonderful work.
