    Guys, VKTRY insoles are the real deal. I seriously love them and it is a product I would use without sponsorship. You can shop here: www.vktry.com/WINNERSOnly
    This video was a grind to make, and a grind to edit. We went straight from a big move, to 7 days of doing this and being displaced, right back into another big move. Tough to watch the footage sometimes and see my like of patience, but hey we can always learn. Kyle is an absolute champ and will definitely be a good player in no time. Excited to continue to see the progress on this channel.

      Yeah, you guys had the stress of moving, staying in a temporary home for 10 days, daily goal oriented grinding on the tennis court, and then moving again. You were both understandably emotional. That’s a lot, plus the stress of filming, editing etc. I’m sure you realize this now in retrospect, but tennis needs to be fun first, followed by the drive to improve. Remove the fun and then it’s just another job. Next time Kyle gets on a court he needs some zero stress fun games with zero expectations until he decides to make it a grind again. Love your channel and it’s cool to see brothers doing this together.

    Being "tuff" on someone expecting them to play better than their capabilities doesn't make any sense. It just makes tennis unenjoyable. I'm glad you acknowledged that at the end of the video.

  • @jhanhky
    @jhanhky 3 місяці тому +4

    Kyle's forehand grip and swing are pretty good. The "lost" feeling he's getting is due to hitting the ball at a different contact point almost every time (usually too far to his right - that's when the ball goes down into the net with no pace). If he starts investigating what contact point works best for him, I think he'll make quick progress. (Meanwhile his contact point and spacing look much more consistent on his backhand).

    • @jhanhky
      @jhanhky 3 місяці тому +1

      If Kyle played D3 basketball then he's got some serious athleticism and hand-eye he can leverage to get to 4.5 within the next few years. Maybe have him imagine a basketball-sized contact zone in front and somewhat to the side of his body, walk the oncoming tennis ball to that spot and let his swing happen at 4/10 effort.

    Guys my heart goes out to you for trying so hard. But remember, good player doesnt equal good coach. No matter how fast and how much Trey has improved, he is not qualified as a coach. Making tennis fun while teaching solid basics is one of the qualities to be a coach. e.g. No one learns to move feet in tennis by just shouting "move your feet" at them a 1000 times :)
    While the intention was good but as it is evident, it took out the fun from tennis for both of you. If you guys just hired a coach or joined a multi day tennis clinic together, it would have yielded positive results. Keep at it Guys! Good Wishes.

    I mean, given that Kyle played D3 basketball, one could say that this time, Trey was basically learning to rally from a former NBA pro.

    Tennis is hard. You won't get better in a week. You will get better in a semester, if you are consistent in practicing. But yet you won't become "great" in one semester. You may need one year. Two years. Five years. And in five years you will still find a ton of things you are doing "wrong" and need to improve. Tennis is the best "Rocky" experience you can have. "It's not how many times you get knocked down that count, it's how many times you get back up." It's understanding that progress will be slow and hard, but rewarding.

    Poor Kyle. Go easy on him man. My guy just has to loosen up, stop worrying about trying to control the ball, that'll only make your swingpath tight. Using less speed more acceleration on contact.

    Hey not sure if y'all are looking for advice, but here's my two cents. In the future practice sessions like this in juniors we would spend a lot more time on short court. If I were y'all I would start with 50 balls in a row short court down the line then 50 balls cross court both sides because if you're struggling up there it will definitely be impossible at the baseline. When things are way slowed down up there you really learn to control and feel the ball as well as work on the proper technique. I live in Austin and played college tennis if you ever need any tips on best ways to practice or anything else. Also the journey and improvement so far has been incredibly impressive you guys are doing great.

    • @tennisteuton
      @tennisteuton 3 місяці тому

      Very true, progressions work well. If you learn to hit deep groundstrokes from the serve box 9/10 times, and then move up a few feet towards the baseline once you manage to play 9/10 deep, you will have a much easier time hitting deep from the baseline.
      You can much more easily layer power on top of control than control on top of power.

    Well, first of all: valiant effort, guys, and sometimes (actually, many times) success comes after a while. I bet Kyle will already play much better in his next matches.
    As an alternative to the "1,000 balls of X" format, one could also do a "30 days of X" format. Instead of 1,000 every day for a week, 250 balls every day for a month. This is less daunting, but comes down to the same amount of balls. Sometimes the mind-body connection and muscle memory needs some time to form.

    Man, if y'all ever want to swing through the the capital of this great nation of ours (i.e., Washington D.C., and more specifically Arlington, VA), I promise I could get Kyle's strokes feeling (and looking) smoother . As a side note, Arlington, VA was actually voted the fittest town/city/thing in America, and people are crazy about their tennis here. Tons and tons of good quality public courts, only $10/hour to reserve 'em. Love the channel, been following it since the 1,000 backhands video, you guys are definitely doing something unique in the tennis space. Welcome to swing through D.C./Arlington anytime (we also host the Citi Open, an ATP 500, every year), and check out the tennis scene!
    Keep up the great work, my dudes

    Random suggestion, but Kyle should try ALU Power strings instead of the Toroline strings.
    Second suggestion is to have him hit with the ball machine a ton. The ball machine allows you to relax your form make mistakes without caring. Relaxing is where the looseness you need comes from.
    I recently switched from Toroline to ALU Power and quickly realized the Torolines were not for me.

    • @gab_ale
      @gab_ale 3 місяці тому +1

      Relaxing is the key. Kyle already had a nice forehand swing before adding all the complexities that come with instruction.
      He needs to find the natural flow again and not be pressured so much.

    What a great, honest video! All I would say is, you're defintely making progress so don't be too hard on yourselves. And also more importantly learn from the example of Day 5 and try to run the drills within the context of "play" and I think the experience will always be more positive.

    I can tell already he doesn't keep his left hand on the racket but on the throat. Ohbh can get away with that but you should keep the left hand in a eastern grip always. Don't skip the foundation.

    Read atomic habits. Get 1% better and work at small goals and your result has to follow. Kyle already feeds without dropping the ball which is good. Trey you could work on that. Kyle needs to focus on his contact point only for awhile. Nothing else. Making sure wrist doesn’t wobble on impact. Slight squeeze of handle otherwise keep it all loose🎉

    You SHOULD focus on getting x number in first, and if it takes you pushing - then that's where you're at. THEN you work on getting those 50 with better strokes, less pushing, etc. Biggest mistake is people trying to hit as hard as they can out of the gate. You need to earn the right to hit harder by providing consistency first. And - - Kyle, take lessons from a pro (no offense, Trey,). It'll be immensely helpful, especially early on when muscle memory is more malleable. Don't give up! Continue doing the work 👍

      You have to remember we are brothers, he’s telling me things and I wasn’t doing them. Idk if you have siblings, but if you do, you know much shorter your patience is with them. if you had to spend 3 hours a day for a week with your patience being tested like this, you would crack too.
      Overall, was just a failed experiment, and we kept the video pretty raw and real. But the fact that he would give up 3 hours of his time each day of this week with the sole focus of helping me get better, with no benefit for him, is something few would do. We just set ourselves up for failure
