You understand that there’s a 3/4 of the amount of cops on the street as there were 3 years ago right? Less cops is less reporting, not to mention they reduced what they even report now, due to being overloaded. I was in the Marines, and friends with a lot of cops, their jobs are exponentially harder after the Floyd riots. You can’t even get a cop at your house in SoCal within an hour…
As someone who has worked in those areas of Memphis the majority of my life, I appreciate the way you also managed to capture just how beautiful and alluring the city can also be.
I worked a couple of weeks at a different funeral home to help set up the repasts. Out of maybe 20 services, there were only like 7 people that died of natural causes. Seeing all those obituaries of people born after me really did something to my mental. One of the final times I was there, I went to the restroom and just sobbed uncontrollably. Seeing all those mothers crying was unbearable. I couldn’t return even though the pay was nice.
Don't give out that H Card thing anymore. Some people won't take too kindly to it. It's awkward and if you are interviewing people from the most dangerous places, they don't need a pass to say anything.
The "H-Word Card" always confuses these guys. It's both hilarious and scary as hell because they all have looked pissed off by not understanding the joke.
im Glad u commented this so i can explain, its because by him wanting to grant someone to say honky is basically him letting it be known that he wants to say the N word. simple. its an accidental racism statement.

I think the reason kids are acting like this is the music they are constantly listening to. 40% of people are listening to this crap, mostly teens and young adults.
This type of lifestyle was a thing way before "drill" rap became prominent. All the music does is broadcast this lifestyle to a wider audience. Music represents another potential avenue to escape poverty and achieve some form of normalcy in the same way sports does. Most of these guys get into this lifestyle at a young age where they're too young to get a job yet have a financial need due to the severe poverty or social pressure in some of these areas.
yeah he could've been told this by the people he interviewed if he wasn't so focused on asking about how dangerous it is and why. I feel like he should have asked them more about how they grew up or what's unique about Memphis. there's a lot of culture about Memphis that could have been included in this video
@@j.boog612we all know how they grew up, it’s no secret. He goes to these places to show it in present day, what they’re doing now and what their day to day life right now
Nah... because what happens when there is no more safe neighborhoods and you can't just keep moving. This is a major problem that has plagued especially the deep south surprisingly. Well everywhere, my point is we gotta weed this crap out. We gotta change a whole lot of things... ask yourself why it's increasingly worse every year. Lot needs to be done
I’ve lived in Memphis my whole life. And just like every other city, there is good parts and bad parts. But for the most part, there are good people doing the best they can. Not bad people, just struggling and trying to make it.
Not bad people?! There was a elderly couple that was carjacked for their truck. Dude pulled off while the guy was near the passenger seat. Made the dude fall and he could’ve easily ran him over. That doesn’t sound like a good person
@@Kareem180He said "for the most part" For the most part the people are good everywhere. Even among blacks, its only a small percentage committing the crimes. Most of us aint trying to sit in no jail cell
Actual Memphis resident here. What people don't say is that while crime is bad, the truly violent crime tends to be in certain parts of the city. It's like one of the ladies at the gas station said at the beginning of the video, the danger is generally is based on where you are in the city but that you Do absolutely have to stay aware of your surroundings. That being said, I do think that citizens of Memphis do live with some form of Ptsd, myself included. I remember the whole city being issued with a shelter in place order as the Kelly drove around the city for hours shooting people. But the city had already been traumatized by the Eliza Fletcher unaliving a few weeks earlier. Look, Memphis is dangerous in parts. You can live a happy, healthy, secure life in Memphis. It's not impossible. But it is harder to do that here than other places. I love my city. I love the hard working grit and grind folks who make up the community. There are so many more good people here than bad. If you want to get to behind some of the issues here, look at the courts. Look how often they let people out of jail when they should be kept in awaiting trial. Look at the judges. We are suffering majorly from a lack of law from the courts. The problems here are big. We don't have serious officials trying to fix it. It is going to get worse. But don't let this truly honest look at a part of the city lead you to believe it's the whole city or all of its citizens because it isn't.
I work retail and to come home and relax to a Tommy G video is such a good feeling- especially this time of year. Thank you for putting out great content ❤
Yeah that ain’t true , that’s like saying everywhere there’s white people I have to fear for my kids at school cause there might be caught in a school shooting
Grew up 25 years in Memphis (loved it!), live in Nashville, I'm white and when I say I'm from Memphis, instant street cred, but I get hit with, "you don't talk/ sound like you're from Memphis"
Tommy, the end of your vid made me think of this quote. Be careful what you think because your thoughts become your words. Be careful what you say because your words become your actions. Be careful what you do because your actions become your habits. Be careful what you make into a habit because your habits become your character and your character becomes your destiny.”
How you go to Memphis and not tap in with GroveHero? A black man who bought back his hoood built a park and basketball court in his hood.. well known comedian.
@ it’s still a dangerous hood and it’s a good story behind him being homeless . Young dolph seeing potential in him and just being one who made it out poverty and gave back to his community
That’s because different standards of ranking, Memphis is the most dangerous Metropolitan area (best measurement) is the most dangerous metro area in the US. City borders are too small and inaccurate.
It’s so bad around Memphis because they’ll release you on a signature bond - there’s “equity” meaning someone who’s working gets into a bar fight will have an actual bail to pay but a unemployed person with $0 income can commit murder, get a signature bail to be “equitable” and just flee. They don’t even care anymore around here man.I’m sick of it but I’m not leaving just yet… prayers for those just trying to live with a sense of normalcy
Memphis is a city you watch your surroundings and mind your own business. Don’t come to the city and try to be a hero. You do those things you will be fine. You come to the city being flashy, showing you got money, you will get got. Don’t play with these young boys out in the city. They don’t have respect for themselves let alone others or life and will just shoot with both eyes closed.
Agree, I grew up there but live in Nashville now, but i still visit family, friends, and Memphis wrestling every 3 weeks, never have a problem. I go downtown, I walk around the city. Like you said "mind your business"

In undergrad I had to write a report for my term paper in a class and chose interviewing some politicians at the TN State Capital building in Nashville as the theme of the paper and thankfully this cute blonde girl from Knoxville who was a full time intern at the State capital and also in my undergrad classes linked me up to do an interview with a state legislator from Memphis. This guy was a retired full career police detective, former city councilman, and state representative at the time in Memphis for over 40 years like an old smart 75 year old man (I though he was a lawyer from an top like school like Vanderbilt he was so high IQ) and he looked across the desk from me talking about his city and all the crime and economic problems and goes, ‘Son, you don’t even know how bad it is’. I go ‘the crime in your city’ and he proceeded to describe for half a hour some of the stuff he had seen and how he had tried to improve the city and the local economy his whole career. That old man was a true public servant not some greedy sociopath conman big name politician like a Mitt Romney or Dick Cheney type of shyster national level dude who’s propped up by big lobbying and a bunch of cunning billionaire’s back room deals that they push to the masses as the latest greatest policy as most voters don’t research in detail what they do during their terms in office and only watch the boob tube and get hyped up and cuss out strangers at protests in public during the elections.
i'll never forget when i got into my first car accident, dude sped up and didn't realize that we were at a dead stop because the highway traffic was going MAX 10 mph before stopping every few feet, and he rammed into the back of my car. i got out to check on him and while i was on the phone and talking to the highway incident response driver, the guy that hit me took off on foot. i was not only confused from hitting my head so damn hard on my seat, but now stunned that the dude ran LMAO. anyways. i love memphis, practically grew up there. but it's really sad and heartbreaking, especially because you can feel the divide. and to watch it unravel from the city i knew as a kid into what it is today sucks too.
as a memphian, it’s all about where you go and knowing how to stay safe! it’s an amazing city with great people and i think the majority want to see memphis improve!

The funeral director like aslong as im not involved and make my money 🤣
Exactly. When Tommy asked him what it was like I thought he was gonna say “it’s very profitable”🤣
That would have been so sad to see, damn 😢@@Bondgirl901

I think the reason kids are acting like this is the music they are constantly listening to. 40% of people are listening to this crap, mostly teens and young adults.
One of my favorite rap songs is "Gimme The Loot," a song about armed robbery, and I've grown up without stealing anything from anyone.
Music plays a role for sure, but it definitely isn’t the reason why these people turn to the streets.
You think listening to bethoven would change ? The reason is called capitalism + institutional racism ..

If a person can't walk around the block in their own neighborhood and feel safe while walking? It's time to move ASAP!
Nah... because what happens when there is no more safe neighborhoods and you can't just keep moving.

Exactly Gang
Not bad people?! There was a elderly couple that was carjacked for their truck. Dude pulled off while the guy was near the passenger seat. Made the dude fall and he could’ve easily ran him over. That doesn’t sound like a good person
@@Kareem180He said "for the most part" For the most part the people are good everywhere. Even among blacks, its only a small percentage committing the crimes. Most of us aint trying to sit in no jail cell
@@Kareem180so that makes every single person in a city bad and evil?
@@GoneNForgotten Of course not. But if you do stuff like that, you are not a good person.
