Neil played an acoustic concert in Chicago Centerstage in 1991which I watched on VH1. I wasn't even a Neil Young fan back then but years later it just clicked. That performance was what inspired me to take up guitar. Great job breaking down one of Neil's classics James.
You amaze me. The broad range of songs and artists you cover well, and you always have the right guitar for it. You are a gift to those of us needing Cliff Notes on cover songs.
One of the best tutorials I've been lucky enough to stumble onto. I knew I was leaving out alot of the pretty details. I could find the notes but not put it all together. This was an elevation. I love how deceptively simple Neil's playing is. He milks every chord and makes every note a gem. Thank you!
I knew I'd see that Bills jersey even before I clicked on this video. I'm old enough to remember Thurman Thomas and Jim Kelly. Great song and lesson as always. Thank you!
Wow! I haven't heard that song in awhile, had to search it, re-listen, then come back to you! In the middle of your video you played more and it all clicked, Seeing, hearing your explanations are simple and Spot On! Thank you so much brother. You taught me many cool songs I didn't think I could play. 👏👏👏🍺😎👍
Once again a song that I always wanted to play. And Ta-Da here you are working it out. Thanks James. I have my Bills jersey on also. Lets get that playoff win today. Your the best instructor on you tube
At the end, I was wishing you could hit the vocal. Neil made me feel more comfortable with my own voice. Although I still find it hard to listen to my own stuff. Groovy 😮
Perfect thanks, funny was in the process of learning this song you filled the parts up the neck and the correct d min chord. Your lessons are the best you capture the correct fingering and chords without fail.
Great easy to follow lesson JJ. The Martin is sounding amazingly dynamic and sweet-to me they are the best sounding acoustic guitars regardless of price! I own a Gibson Hummingbird, Gibson j-200 and a Martin D-42. The Martin is easily my favorite. BTW-Go Buffalo Bills today! Cheers!👍👍
Grew up listening to Live Rust every Friday night. My first introduction to Neil Young. Loved every song acoustic and electric on that album! Brilliant. By the way, that intro was (sort of) adopted by Lloyd Cole and the Comottions for 'Are you ready to be heartbroken'. Maybe a song you should look at sometime? Great great song in my opinion. Keep up the good work Sir 👏
Great video. I just watched your last PT video. I am so sad you even had to do that. I enjoy each and every one of your videos. I have learned so many songs by watching you play. I hope you find nothing but positive comments here. Here's to a wonderful 2021.
It’s a Martin D45 I reckon. It could be a D42 but I think he’d play the top of the range personally. As for the year - couldn’t say. The older , pre - war ones are a fortune. I mean a fortune. Hope this helps.
Bring on all the Neil you want!!!
Yes totally!
It's incredibly kind & generous that you do these so freely. Your insights & knowledge are just so helpful. Thanks 😊

Neil Young and Pete Townshend: The only two guys in rock and roll that I consider not only genius songwriters, but also genius guitar players.
I would add Mark Knofler to that list.
I agree with both of you.
To be honest there's 100's of them :)
I would add Glenn Tilbrook to that list
@@kingshearer2 Yeah dunno what the other guy is talking about.
Very well👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻! Good modulations! Congrats from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil🎸🎤🎵🎶🎶🕊
made my day today. Bought new strings for the Humming Bird a few hours ago. Two Beauties today that I can dig into. Congrats on your Bills
What strings did you buy? just curious
Thanks for all the lessons over the years, wishing you and your family all the very best for 22 from the UK.
..my girl just walked in ....first thing she heard was " do the same thing with the G string " ...she's like what are you watching !??....
I knew I'd see that Bills jersey even before I clicked on this video. I'm old enough to remember Thurman Thomas and Jim Kelly. Great song and lesson as always. Thank you!
A million thanks JJ, this lesson is pure gold!

Great lesson for a great song, thanks I’m having a blast playing it now !
I love that guitar. Good song too. Thanks. Go Bills!
Miss this dude’s videos!!
To play it like Neil on the original recording, tune all the strings down one step to DGCFAD. The version on Decade. Oh to live on Sugar Mountain.
Yes Neil plays dropped most of the time
My absolute fav Neil Young tune.
You make that guitar sing beautifully.
Nice lesson, thanks. Neil was the master of using the D shaped chord every way possible.
Pete Townshend is another.
George Harrison was pretty good with the d chord too
Great Neil Young song. Go Bills!!
by far the the best video i came across,...i like your style,...very inspirational
Once again a song that I always wanted to play. And Ta-Da here you are working it out. Thanks James. I have my Bills jersey on also. Lets get that playoff win today. Your the best instructor on you tube
Excellent instructional video for learning Sugar Mountain.
Sounds magical on that Martin!
At the end, I was wishing you could hit the vocal. Neil made me feel more comfortable with my own voice. Although I still find it hard to listen to my own stuff. Groovy 😮
Great lesson and interpretation. Thanks for sharing.

EXCELLENT LESSON! No fartin around, covered all the different parts spot on. Hit the sub button immediately. Shame about that jersey tho. Go Pats!!!!!
Pick any song on "Everybody Knows This is Nowhere" album! Neil is still "Rockin' in the Free World". Go Bills!
Entertaining and educational as always James! Cheers
Wow James that’s cool. Love it
James you’re playing all my favorite songs. I have your videos divided by electric and acoustic. Thank you!
.......Go Bills....... Nice lesson....appreciated.....(from a WNY'er)...... :-)
Gold! Nice inclusion in your wide sea of gifts. Appreciate you.
Nice turn of phrase there...
Gogo buffalo! Love the bills shirt!
First song I ever learned then realized I did not learn it ha ! GO Bills !

awesome tutorial brother - thank you
Thanks, helpful as always. And Allen and your Bills are currently up on my Football Team.
Excellent. Thanks for unlocking the secrets of the mighty Neil!
That's a good looking jersey
That is such a killer Martin!!!
It is. But honestly, I prefer the Guild D55.
Go Bills.....Go Josh!!....Great Jersey!

Keep up the good work Sir 👏
Great stuff as usual. Don't know why exactly, but this made me think of JJ Cale's Magnolia. Thanks a lot!
its the Fmaj7 to the C/G back and foward in Magnolia
@@salvatoregiglio4427 Quite a different strumming rhythm though :)
Thanks - Great job. Still heartbroken about my Bills!
Good one! I love that
C shape D chord .
Neil does that in more songs... Human Highway comes to mind.
@@castanzes also in natural Beauty and don’t let it bring you down
Awesome! I know what I am doing today! thanks
Thank you sir ! Excellent!
Love this! Thank you!
Thanks man, Go Bills , super bowl bound.
That was awesome thank you
Great lesson, thanks!!
I can hear Marrakesh express in the chords as well
This is within my limited skills. Think i'll give it a whirl. Thanks!
I fret the third fret high E string with my pinky on the fmaj7.
Great song ...Ive always loved playing it but its hard to sing because of the register he sings in...at least for me.
Thanks, that was groovy. 😮
Go Steelers, LOL Great video by the way.
where has the jamesjamesjames sugar mountain set gone ?!
Can't thank you enough.
Fmaj7 or F with added 9 on top (the G)
Great lesson. Go Vikings!
I love Scott Norwood!!
What is your favorite acoustic guitar?
He tuned down a whole-step on the album, too, right?
Yeah, some musicians do that or their producers encourage it.
Wow that martin has some carry!
Great shirt!
You are missed Man
Classic!!
Great video.

Great
Does that amp go to 11? ...privetricker ?
That' a great sounding guitar, what year is it? Neil Is My Musical Muse
That’s a 2006. Bought it new.
Always wanted to learn this one. Thank you.
Today is Jimbo's birthday.
HBD!
🐉🎸🎶🎵
I had a "Celebration Day"!!!
Does anyone hear tequila sunrise in that g chord?
Its there
About half of the pop songs featuring a G chord have that same suspension.
The start chord here is also used by Shawn Mendes in his Heart of Gold.
Thank you -
I think i's a Dmin in the verse, not a Dm7.
Josh!
Go BILLS!!!
Bills baby!
Bills Win!
What kind of guitar is that?
It’s a Martin D45 I reckon. It could be a D42 but I think he’d play the top of the range personally. As for the year - couldn’t say. The older , pre - war ones are a fortune. I mean a fortune. Hope this helps.
Go Bills.
Go Bills
The version on live rust is really good😎
What strings gauge are you using. It really rings. Phosphorus Bronze?
Those are probably 13’s. But you could put bailing wire on a D41 and it’ll sound great.
