  • Burning Devotion is a unique take on Paladin, turning a class that is typically melee damage dealers into a AOE controlling monster. This build accomplishes this playstyle by taking the Oath of the Crown Paladin Subclass and combining its feature Champion's Challenge with the Dragonborn's racial feat Dragon's fear. These features along with spells like Wrathful Smite, Find Steed, and Spirit Guardians make one nasty paladin.

    Its worth mentioned that, also in Fizban's, there is an option to use a Dragonnel as a mount with Find Greater Steed. Its basically a dragon type creature specifically made to be a mount.

    Oath of the Crown is so underrated. Fun concept too

      I like it because it opens up the Paladin to a wider range of Roleplay options too. Crown and Conquest fit so many different flavors and they are both really good subclasses.

    Really cool build, and no multi-classing; very refreshing.

    You should make a character that takes all the gift of the x dragons
    Or a build that uses both ice and fire equally

    Biggest thing about this combo is that its a bonus action/action set up. so you can just drop it on turn 1 and be done with it. if you wanted everything up and running. I would probably go fighter 2 after paladin 9 so you've got spirit guardians up as well. I was very tempted to play this exact character in a campaign , but I decided against it in favour of going a psudo-paladin -Hexblade Swashbuckler Battlemaster

    "Dragon Fear is the most powerful half feat."
    -Elven Accuracy has entered the chat-

      Pardon if I miss the exact meaning of your post, but I think there is definitely a case to be made for dragon fear. The fact that you can use the +1 in Str or Con is big as finding good half feats for those is very difficult vs say INT/WIS/CHA which have like a half dozen decent options. And elven accuracy can't be used for Str based attacks which is a bit limiting but not the end of the world. In general, I think finding a way to increase hit chance is fairly easy to do though; with many ways to gain advantage, magic weapons, bless spell, archery fighting style, etc. The difference between hit chance when you compare regular advantage vs elven accuracy is like 10% at most for most of the game and thats not counting anything else I listed above. It really only shines on crit fishing builds and those really aren't that great. I'd argue Fey touched is better than both even

    this really is superb, best spirit guardians build ever, especially with teammates who can push and pull. Higher level frighten and charm immune enemies aren't a concern because you're kicking ass already. I'd go resistant Constitution to shore up your supersave at some point. I like it can be any ancestry and doesn't multiclass.

    Wouldn’t mind seeing a few more old builds come back with the new format. Your current format is really smooth and well done.

    This could take 9 levels of Crown Paladin for Extra Attack and Spirit Guardians, then go the rest in Warlock (Fiend for better tanking, or Celestial for Support), to get Pact Slots so you can cast Find Steed and Aid at the start of the day using a Pact Slot, then short resting immediately after. You also get cool Pact Boons, such as Tome for Guidance, Blade for more Melee, etc.

    I loved playing this. Yesterday I was part of a Level 10 one-shot and this build carried our asses. I got however 1 level in Hexblade...
    Still amazing. I was able to hit a 6 men fear and challenge the 2nd in command was great.

    I think you overlooked something. Usually with Frighten effects from spells if you "can't" move a lot of effects just require them to take the dodge action if they can't run.

    • @ornado4773
      @ornado4773 11 місяців тому +2

      dodge doesnt matter for spells that require a wisdom or charisma save. And even if they spend their turn dodging ...its not attacking so its a wasted action. It's an action economy destroyer and thats what imakes it strong.

    Can you make a video about a Changeling Spy? The idea is that the character can Forge Documents and Clothes, but can also use a pinture to transform. Monster's of the Multiverse Version of the Changeling. For class i think that a Eloquence bard or Psionic/Swashbuckler rogue would fit well.
    The idea is to get: Forgery Kit (Documents and Clothes), Weaver's Tools (Clothes) and Thieve's Tools (Infiltration).
    Tools to learn in the adventure: Calligrapher's Supplies (better forgery) and Painter's Supplies (You can draw a fictional character and then use your ability to transform yourself based on the painting)

      He actually did that twice. Once, a while ago, he uploaded a video about a rogue PC that he had played, called "Fobonacci Hazelhawk". And then, a bit more recent, he uploaded a video called "The Bardic Infiltrator" or something like that, so you might wanna check those out.

    I'm not looking for credit or anything.... But I literally posted a comment about this exact build on your last video 🤣. I know you said you made the build before for the most part so you have obviously had pretty much this idea before, but it can't be a coincidence.

    Yeah I missed this the first go around. Very cool build.
    What do you think about a 2 level dip in Fighter for Action Surge? You'll be able to set up the lock in 1 turn.
    Challenge: Barbarian that uses Armor of Agathis.

  • @ornado4773
    @ornado4773 11 місяців тому

    Honestly I'd reccomend somewhere between 6-9 to dip 2-3 levels fighter for Action Surge. Being able to get this combo off in 1 turn when in dND most combats take 2-3 turns on average...could really mean the difference.

    Is hexblade 1 or 2 worth it for this build? That way we can hit with our highest stat, get the best ranged cantrip in the game, and all the other cool things a warlock dip gets us. This would also free up the fighting style. I’m thinking maybe paladin 1 / hexblade 1 / paladin 6 / hexblade 2 / paladin x. Depending on how often you have to use ranged, I’d prioritize or deprioritize hexblade 2.

    • @aquartertwo
      @aquartertwo 11 місяців тому

      Aside from the CHA attack roll, it frees up a spell slot for Wrathful Smite (can't use Shield or Absorb Elements without War Caster) and gives us Eldritch Blast and Booming Blade/Green Flame Blade to free up our Fighting Style.
      1 level is enough, but honestly, for any player or DM that's tired of this multiclass at higher levels, I'd just negotiate getting a Belt of Hill Giant Strength.
