@@357magdad It looks like a very useful set-up.... Will have to try it.... At some point I need to make some rollers for a couple of vintage lawnmowers I will be restoring....
I showed Scoutcrafter's nesting wood hammer to my 9yr old son. He was very impressed and said he wanted to make one. I said we can't because we don't have a lathe to turn the handle. He said we have a drill press, maybe we could lay it on its side and use it like a lathe. I said your being silly. Then I saw this video! I showed it to my son and he said "I told you so!". 😛. I really like your hammer, even if it's not all wood, it is much more practical. Scoutcrafter's hammer is a piece of art. A toolman's folk art. Almost 3000 subs! Are you going to celebrate and buy a fresh tube of FLITZ?!?
You son has got a good creative mind! ScoutCrafter's hammer(s) were amazing! All of the free advertising I give them, Flitz should buy me a new tube! LOL
357 Magdad you get 6 thumbs up from my family for "IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT MAKE" attitude! Two thumbs up from me, 2 from my dad who was a machinist and two from my brother who was a welder. I have pipe fittings like that at home and when I have a chance will attempt to make one.

Nice entry @357magdad. I learned a few things from that one thanks. One thing I would say is that it is much kinder on the chuck to use a bolt with the head cut off for the headstock, threaded rod in chucks can't be good.
Great work as usual, that looks like a contender! Wondered where the Flitz was going to go and then I saw you polishing up the collars. Never thought of using my drill press as a makeshift lathe but thats now on my to do list. Good luck in the competition.
Fantastic job 2 really cool ideas cutting threads with a pipe fitting and drill press Cutting threads with a pipe fitting and drill press lathe brilliant and the hammer came out really good As well
Great looking hammer, your wood "lathe" seems to have worked good, and you got creative with the lathe tools. That is the whole problem watch ScoutCrafter, you and bunch of others, I get a lot of ideas but just not the time to do them.
The hammer looks great! I like the way you turned your drill press into a vertical lathe. It did a great job of holding the stock. Where was Chuck when you were Flitzing the hammer? Thanks for sharing this.
357MagDad excellent build! I like the flitz action and the orange paint. Neat idea about the drill press lathe . Do you think it would work with hard woods? Or it it a soft wood only set up?
Magdad that is the exact set up i have for a wood lathe. But i went to Harbor Freight and got the cheap set of wood lathe tools. Don't do it they don't hold an edge. Nice job on the hammer challenge my friend!!
I fought with using brass on my hammer entry. I ended up yelling at my wood bucket for calling me a fraud. I didn't use the brass, one day the bucket will regret talking to me that way. Cool hammer sir, I like the drill press set up.
