I pastor (have been for 36 years) a church 10 minutes away from two Northpoint Church locations and have spoken directly to Andy Stanley about his claim to have a "Biblical Sexual Ethic." The reason? I have spoken to Andy previously and know that he believes people are born gay and has "conceded" that gay marriage is God's will for those who are born homosexual. The change of what he believed on this subject occurred around 2013. Andy has claimed to have a "Biblical sexual ethic," however, he is defining "ethic" as sexual activity within the realm of a life-long, committed, and exclusive marriage partner. In other words, the "ethic" Andy is referring to can be applied to gay-marriage." Andy is NOT referring to heterosexual marriage alone for this qualification. In this way, Andy can seem to be orthodox and yet continue to pursue allowing gay marriage to thrive at NP. I confronted Andy on this (and other issues related to sexuality) and he didn't see anything wrong with it. He "conceded" that "for some people who are born gay, this is the only alternative in being married." Andy is a fantastic shape-shifter and uses words to convey a commonly held belief but not the entire truth. Andy does this all the time in his messages. In one of our conversations, Andy told me directly that "there are some things you don't talk about with a mic in your hand." I replied: "That sounds incredibly duplicitous" to which he replied, "No, that's good leadership." I believe there are many pastors doing this kind of double-talk when it relates to sexuality or other controversial subjects.. If you suspect your pastor and need clarification, go to him and ask him directly: "Do you believe God only recognizes and approves of marriage as being one man and one woman for life?" Be respectful, specific, and direct. If in a larger church, email the pastor asking for a clear statement of what he believes and what the church teaches in regard to sexuality and don't settle for "soft" answers or sloganeering. Healthy, Christ-centers Pastors appreciate engaging on this subject and being clear. Weasel pastors will qualify, change the subject, or avoid answering all together. Don't follow or attend a church that has a weasel as a pastor.

Your answer can be found in psalm 1.
Don't stand in the way that sinners take. Let the fire teach them, because if you cast your pearls of wisdom before them (as stumbling blocks) they will turn and trample you.
Question. Can those 'trees' produce fruit? Yes and no. They cannot produce more trees... but there are a lot of locusts that will be caused to move if you 'shake them'.
Since they cannot 'fruit's, they have already been cut off and their bloodline severed.
Do as Job did and 'avoid' evil. And think like Joseph did, that evil can be used for 'good'.
Keep the peace and all will work out in the long run. Let the 'dead' bury the 'dead'. And bake the a going away cake while your at it.
      Shalom.
~ "White Rabbit" (the 'rabid' rabbi)

I speak graciously, but when I observe Andy Stanley preaching, I hear more of a carefully crafted message designed to "wow" the audience, more than an actual sermon expounding the pure message of God. It's like Andy has to go deeper than he did last week, stimulating the audience with something they have never heard before, etc. Anyways, it's too bad he's veered off course in terms of his message and ministry. Drilling deeper than the spirit is a fleshly exercise.

My old church had sermons nearly every week that had vague throw away lines without clarity. I've developed a rule: If someone is passionately arguing for something, but you can't figure out what they're talking about, they're hiding something.

While there is much in the way of poorly written contemporary Gospel music, there is also a lot of bad theology in the other forms and a lot of the contemporary praise music is Binle verses set to music in the tradition of the original use of the Psalms in the Bible and much of the music written in all periods and styles of church music. My husband and I just left a church that we thought was biblically sound. If I had not met with the campus pastor we would still be going to this church. My purpose in meeting this pastor was to get to know him. Long story short, we got on the topic of culture and sexual identity. He tells me Preston Sprinkle is coming to speak to the leadership on this topic. I checked this Sprinkle guy out and was devastated at his teaching on this subject. I shared my concerns with this pastor and another one also and it went nowhere. My heart was broken, but now so aware of this Side B teaching.

People argue about the Bible all the time. We dont need to. We dont need to prove anything to anyone. God calls everyone, but ONLY those who accept Jesus and His scripture can be saved. If they dont accept Gods will they start justifying to make themselves feel better about their denial. That is their choice. I dont have to prove God to anyone.

Agree. Just because WE don’t know “why God did or said” something doesn’t mean God didn’t have a very good reason “why He did or said” something. A great passage to remember (and quote in response to such insinuations) is
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9 (NIV)

@@robertj5208So this sounds like it could be a real tough situation. Of course if the questions are all on one subject or various related subjects then the pastor has their next sermon series subject right there. But if there are many questions on many +/or unrelated subjects then maybe a sermon (or sermon portion) highlighting good Bible study techniques is a good idea. You know, the basics, like always consider a whole verse in its context (paragraph, chapter, book, time in history, etc), consider (as best you can) how the original hearers understood (if the text tells us directly) or would've understood the passage, consider the entire teaching of the Bible on that subject (other passages, similar concepts, etc), read and study prayerfully (maybe this should've been first), and any other tips the pastor can give.
After all, it's great to have pastors who can help us get answers, but it's good for us to stretch our Bible study muscles some as well.
Oh, p s. I hope the pastor you're thinking of is networking with other pastors, maybe they can be a valuable resource for him and the church.

This was my problem with the church I just left. I was a member for many years. Real Bible study turned into book club. Sin was rarely discussed from the pulpit. Too little scripture with too much personal nonsense. Worship songs about me, me, me instead of how great and glorious our Lord is. Currently I'm at home and have begun to spend the original Sabbath studying the word and watching UA-cam people who are actually preaching it. I hope to find a congregation soon, but I'm not holding my breath. Most churches today are following an entertainment program rather than one designed to produce a holy people.

We're seeing the psychologization of the church as people try to find "congruence" between two opposing world views--the biblical and the philosophies of man. These centers whose goal is to "integrate faith and sexuality" must necessarily redefine Scripture's message to fit it together with the disordered experiences of sexuality among "sexual minorities" in the church. Desires for that which God hates (properly understood as sinful desires/indwelling sin) are declared neutral unless acted upon. These are said to be "unchosen" and "a result of the fall". Certainly not things to be confessed and fought against on a spiritual level.
Of course, the trajectory from there is to frame those who "experience" such things as martyrs of the faith when they "follow a traditional sexual ethic" (which is a whole lot different than being transformed by the renewing of their minds). Their obedience is "far more costly" than any regular Christian who is called to die to their sin, take up their cross, and lay down their lives for Jesus, and they are elevated to be examples of a greater sacrifice than the rest of us can ever know. And shame on all those Christians who simply can't see this!
The way to fix this is through serious berean-like discipleship and doctrinal training. Unless that is happening in your church every Sunday and throughout the week, your congregation is a sitting duck for "every wind of doctrine" being thrown around out there. These days, the wind is strong.

Dear Christian, breathe easy. Jesus said, "My peace I give unto you." So, don't let your heart be troubled. Lean fully on the Lord. Study the Scriptures. Cling to God's message with both confidence and grace. Let the nations rage. That's what ungodly people do. Don't strive with the ungodly. Stand strong in the Lord, but with peace, stability, steadiness, love and kindness. You don't need to answer every question. That's the Lord's job. But be ready to give to every man a reason of the hope that is in you. When you find yourself completely in the Lord, and you have nothing personally to defend, you will find that wondrous rest that comes in full surrender to the Lord's power, wisdom and plan. God is above, before, behind, beside, within and under you forevermore. Now, go in peace, and remember the words of God to the prophet of old: "Do not look at their faces." Don't be intimidated by the scowling disapproval of the creature, for the Creator is on your side.

It is true that christians should edicate themselves. Having this attitude is part of being humble. Taking a single verse out of context and using it as a proof text to club other people has nothing to do with humility. There is something which the bible calls the love for the truth which is very rare even in christoan circles. The love for the truth implies to willingness to let former wrong doctrines and traditions go and to concede to the fact that I can be wrong and that I am actually wrong.

Part 2/2 The Wickedness in the Church:
Paul in Romans 11 tries to debunk a false teaching that was rising in his day and has lasted throughout the Church age til today.
    What is Israel?
Romans 11:1 I say then, has God cast away His people? Certainly not! For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin. 2 God has not cast away His people whom He foreknew...7 What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded. 8 Just as it is written:
“God has given them a spirit of stupor, Eyes that they should not see And ears that they should not hear, To this very day.”
...25 For I do not desire, brethren, that you should be ignorant of this mystery, lest you should be wise in your own [f]opinion, that blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in. 26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written:
    “The Deliverer will come out of Zion, And He will turn away ungodliness from Jacob;
27 For this is My covenant with them, When I take away their sins.”
I can't tell you how many false teachings are in the Church today and over the last almost 2000 years over Romans 11 and the lack of understanding with it. As I said I won't deal directly with what they are otherwise it'll just become a giant debate but there are a number of them.
Paul says we as Gentile Christians will become arrogant in our ignorance about Israel, and that has been made very clear by many in the Church in the last few years especially.
GOD has always owned the Land of Israel since He gave it to Abraham. Genesis 15:18 On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land..."
Yet when they entered the Land the LORD still made it clear it was His land. Leviticus 25:And the Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When you come into the land which I give you, then the land shall keep a sabbath to the Lord...23 ‘The land shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine; for you are strangers and sojourners with Me.
This is where Christians make a lot of mistakes. The covenant was for land, not salvation. The Jewish people enjoyed the land if they did what the LORD said
Leviticus 25: 3 Six years you shall sow your field, and six years you shall prune your vineyard, and gather its fruit; 4 but in the seventh year there shall be a sabbath of solemn rest for the land, a sabbath to the Lord...
18 ‘So you shall observe My statutes and keep My judgments, and perform them; and you will dwell in the land in safety. 19 Then the land will yield its fruit, and you will eat your fill, and dwell there in safety.
GOD OWNS THE LAND AND JERUSALEM.
Genesis 15:18 On the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying: “To your descendants I have given this land,..." (Ownership)
Leviticus 25:1-2 And the Lord spoke to Moses on Mount Sinai, saying, 2 “Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them: ‘When you come into the land which I give you,..." (Ownership) Verse 23 ‘The land shall not be sold permanently, for the land is Mine; for you are strangers and sojourners with Me." ("The land is Mine"- Ownership) The word "Sojourners" means guest, visitor, someone who has no claim of ownership.
2 Chronicles 6:5-6 5 ‘Since the day that I brought My people out of the land of Egypt, I have chosen no city from any tribe of Israel in which to build a house, that My name might be there, nor did I choose any man to be a ruler over My people Israel. 6 Yet I have chosen Jerusalem, that My name may be there, and I have chosen David to be over My people Israel.’ (My Name may be there"- Ownership)
Isaiah 45:3b That you (Cyrus) may know that I, the Lord, Who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel. 4 For Jacob My servant’s sake, And Israel My elect,..."
Psalm 121:Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. 5 The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand.
Joel 3:1-2 “For behold, in those days and at that time, When I bring back the captives of Judah and Jerusalem, 2 I will also gather all nations, And bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat; And I will enter into judgment with them there On account of My people, My heritage Israel, Whom they have scattered among the nations; They have also divided up My land. ("My Land"- Ownership)
The question as Christians we need to ask ourselves isn't whether we agree with all of Israel's decisions or not. We need to ask "When did the LORD relinquish His claim of ownership over the Land of Israel and the City of Jerusalem?" Answer: NEVER.
The second question is why after 1800+ years has the LORD (Owner of the land and Jerusalem) allowed the Jewish people back into the Land? Simple, He said He would.
Ezekiel 37:21-23 21 “Then say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Surely I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land; (Step 1) 22 and I will make them one nation in the land (Step 2), on the mountains of Israel; and one king shall be king over them all (Step 3); they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again. 23 They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols, nor with their detestable things, nor with any of their transgressions; but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their God.
See when the LORD GOD speaks, being an eternal GOD, knowing the end from the beginning words like "never again" carry eternal weight. Here the LORD says "I will take the children of Israel from among the nations, wherever they have gone, and will gather them from every side and bring them into their own land;" (in progress) "...they shall no longer be two nations, nor shall they ever be divided into two kingdoms again." Clearly, we see the land is still divided but the LORD says one day it won't be, and at that time the unification will be forever. This means that the LORD still has a plan for the land, the Jews and the nation of Israel. The LORD also says "They shall not defile themselves anymore with their idols...but I will deliver them from all their dwelling places in which they have sinned, and will cleanse them. Then they shall be My people, and I will be their God." This also has not happened yet.
Let me ask you, how much of the Bible does a Christian Pastor or teacher have to get wrong before we classify them as a false teacher?
If a Pastor doesn't understand Eschatology which is the most covered topic in all of Scripture since it makes up over 1/3 of it. Almost every book in Scripture references it. It is covered extensively in Genesis and all the way to Revelation 22. Yet, many Christians quote 1 verse, Matthew 24:36 “But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, but My Father only."
Now many ignore the plain meaning which is that we won't know the exact day or hour; the exact moment of Jesus's 2nd Coming. We know this because just a few verses before Jesus says "29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Guess what the phrase "immediately after" means? Then funny how Daniel 7,8,9, and Rev 11,13, all have specific days and months in them to give us clues.
So most Pastors get 1/3+ of the Bible wrong.
Then many Pastors don't know how we are saved. Is it by faith alone, faith+, are we once saved always saved or can we lose our salvation? What's that 10% of Scripture?
Don't understand Israel? Well, that's a lot of the OT.
How about Hell? Do people die and if they don't believe in Jesus go to an eternal Hell immediately? Many believe they do, yet Revelation 20 says eternal Hell aka the Lake of Fire is sentenced in the future on Judgment Day. Matthew 25 Jesus returns and then judges the nations. Jesus hasn't returned yet.
Matthew 25:31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him,...
41 “Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:..."
Believe me, there is a lot more. The point is the wickedness in the Church is far deeper than we realize. Many Pastors and therefore Christians don't know what biblical truth is, yet preach they have correct doctrines. They hold opposing views everywhere from other believers and yet they all claim to preach biblical truth. How can we know the truth? Simple, stop plucking single verses out of Scripture to fit your ideology. Stop making Jesus a religion. Understand the story of Scripture. So many Christians's biblical worldview has so many holes in it, it's embarrassing. Yet when they have questions how many churches and Pastors study through the Bible with them? I had one Pastor this past week tell me that they hold to the doctrines laid out on their denomination website. I said who determines the doctrines on the website? "We have a board." I said "Ok. what if the doctrines are wrong?" they replied, "Then if the board decides to make change then it gets updated."
What??? I get we want unity, but biblical truth in Jesus should be our unity, not denominational beliefs and board-approved doctrines.
I hope this helps. take care.

For those that do I hope it’s beneficial. Most Christian’s don’t want to hear how their doctrines are wicked ideologies anyway. All I can do is point out what Scripture says and the reality we see and propose what I think is a logical conclusion. I appreciate the feedback though take care.

@@woodtier-gv8he Yes when the nation of Israel was totally against GOD then this happened. Not when there are righteous in the nation as America has. Then it becomes about those who are His people and how they are either righteous or wicked.
As long as there are righteous people (based on a rough estimate of 1 in 10,000 from Genesis 18) So as long as there are 35,000 righteous in America of a population of 350 million, America should not see judgment because of the righteous. If it does then we know it's the failure of Christians. When the righteous become unrighteous in their conduct then judgment will come.

we are living in the last days that were prophesied in the Bible. The world has been destroyed on purpose with the devil's left hand. And now the devil's right hand is revealing to you all of the wickedness lawlessness hopelessness and fear. And that same right hand has a solution for you. A "man" that can save the world. A man that has all the answers. He has convinced you he was sent by God. He has the power to do false signs to deceive you. He's telling you in subtlety. He will read you his snake poem. He will show you his hand signs. He will cleverly tell you he's no Christian. But he will tell the Christian to vote for him. And if you do you will never have to again. While I agree that we should not be embarrassed about what the bible says about sexual ethics and I am disturbed when new bible translations are published that attempt to soften the passages that speak about sexual ethics that are offensive in our culture; however, I am far more disturbed by OUR Evangelical missionaries that are embarrassed by a biblical Christology, and OUR bible translators who change their bible translations to soften the passages that speak about the Trinity and the divinity of our Lord and Savior in Islamic contexts where a biblical Christology is what is most offensive. Why do we spend so much time speaking about a failure to uphold biblical sexual ethics and yet remain completely silent when our missionaries and bible translators do not uphold a biblical Christology? Which is truly more important? I am not suggesting that we should stop speaking about the failure of Christians in our culture to uphold a Biblical sexual ethic, but we should stop being silent when the missionaries and bible translators WE SEND fail to uphold a biblical Christology.

Lot went out of the door to the men, shut the door after him, and said, "I beg you, my brothers, do not act so wickedly.
