- We look at the Romano-British Campaign of Barbarian Invasion and I show you how to make them playable with some small tweaks of the game files. Expect a touch of history, mythology and jokes about the French. Enjoy playing as King Arthur (sort of).

A (potentially obvious) note of caution here: Have back up copies of any files you edit because it is very easy to make a tiny mistake. ENJOY!
Sorry to piss on your bonfire but I really couldn't be assed doing this, you explain everything well and coherently also there is no annoying music blaring in my ears so kudos for a well made informative video but I just downloaded my mates files and imported them into my rome folder, then all I had to do was cut and paste like any other non playable faction. This video is great for getting to grips with basic modding though! I'm just a lazy bastard who's eyes bleed at walls of text! The Roman occupation of Britain is my favourite time period and I really wish CA would make a full game based on the attempted conquest and subjugation of the British Isles.
It is certainly easier to copy files off a friend if they have already done the editing! 😅 Thank you verily for the compliments. And yes indeed, a king Arthur period game could be a marvellous crossover between their historical and saga games. Doubt it'll happen but we can hope!
@@ToNerdistoHumanTNH Ta, finished the campaign and crushed everyone now it's time to play the celts, having a blast so far, imo this game is timeless because the combat is just so smooth. I like med 2's unit roster and look but rome 1 has the most solid and fluid melee mechanics IMO.
Thanks man, always wanted to play as this faction but never knew how.
No problem, Conrade! Have fun with the full stack of Graal Knights!
Time to stop warhammer company and play the faction i wanted to play since 2005!!!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I love this faction and i always want to play Romano-British!
I'm glad to have helped! They are a fun little faction, especially as Saxony will send invasion forces to keep you on your toes.
I've been trying to mod them since 2018, but gave up for good a month before you made this video. Then I found it because I thought it'd be fun / easier to mod the Roman Rebels. Your awesome man! And I finally see what I did wrong!
Thank you lots! I hope you're enjoying it. There are guides for those Roman Rebels factions too if you're interested!
Graal Knights are wonderfully OP :D
They are the most glorious of unit!
If only King Arthur travelled to crete. With us by his side he'd have been truly unstoppable
Is there a way to change the bodyguard units to Graal Knights?
edit: nevermind, I figured out if you go in to export_descr_unit and move the general_unit attribute from the romano warlord to the graal knights it makes so they are the main bodyguard unit.
@@seawind930 Indeed - it's quite a simple change! Have fun!
@@julianusofcrete3729 Ah, The Dark Ages of England and The Knights of the Round Table. They were Christian Story.
Great video as ever. I enjoy the touch of history with the practical file edit stuff.
Lacks Archers 7.8/10
Remastered gave us this faction but I'm going to see about editing like this. I've gotten used to spending the first 5-10 turns taking those settlements by force but it's always a hassle and especially since the celts always come down right after.
Yeah the Remastered gives you the faction now, but the editing does give you more choice and flexibility. Happy to see it is still helpful for people.
it cuts right back to the main menu, even when i did everything perfectly like you did
Usually the main menu throwback is the result of 1 small detail of the text, such a space or line break. I can only really suggest you try again. Hopefully it runs. It has worked consistently for me.
Hey, same thing happened to me. The problem I had was when I removed Placus from the family tree, I screwed up the spacing. I copied fontius two times and gave him the leader and heir status and It worked.
Romano-British are weird and imba.
They have crossbowman in the unit rooster but cannot train them. They don't even get the experience on their archers.
They do not have a regular barbarian-ish cavalery, but have the pretty heavy Sarmatian Cavalery available on the first level of stables - which is quite imba for the retrains. To top it off, because they have no other cavalery above them (WRE higher tier cavalery is actually subpar or not quite big of the upgrade over Sarmatians), they actually do get +1 and +2 starting experience from higher level stables. They also share all buildings including temples with Roman factions, meaning you also have access to the +2 experience temple, meaning you can have them with +4 starting experience, meaning you can boots their already respectable 8 attack 23 defence to 12 attack 27 defence (or 14 attack 29 defence with top level forge).
Even with their already decent armor, they still have "fast moving", "good stamina" and "good morale" (9). They only thing that is a little problematic is their high costs (just as all Roman units) of 1100 and their upkeep of 383, but with Roman tech campaing map buildings and Londonium being a pretty great moneyprinter city due to its great trade resources mean they are a mid and late game force to be reckoned with.
The Romano-British are the only resurgent faction of the game cause they can resurge each time the triggers event are on
Rarely happens... but they are an unusual event to be sure! I like the term 'resurgent faction'. Good old Romano-British.
@@ToNerdistoHumanTNH The Welsh Never Dies haha.
Typical englishman, who wants to destroy France to Restore Gaul haha
Did they ever make a mod to do this automatically, or just copy and pasting edited files?
Oooh such a cool banner! That's it I'm playing as Romano Britain! :D
It is pretty darn... well pretty :D
@@ToNerdistoHumanTNH Makes me all patriotic. Even if Saint George had to slay the dragon :P
@@richardtaylor215 poor Dragon, wasnt enough to be a Sacred beast, it had to be slain for glory
RULE BRITANNIA!
Where is the marmalade and jam?
That is funny as English are more connected to the Saxons, which you will fight as Roman Brits :D
I followed the installation steps in this video, and when I go to start the campaign, it just takes me back to the single player screen. Has anyone experienced this/know how to fix it?
I went over the video again and checked everything, still having this issue
Check the descrstrat file it has to be setup a certain way. One extra space can mess everything up. Also. You might have to move western romans to different settlements
This video is gonna age well now. :)
I suppose if you want a fixed start then it is still vaguely relevant to the remaster! :P
I encounter a problem when I try to follow your modding instructions.
I open the program, I click "Single Player", it takes me to the New Game menu and I click "New Campaign", I choose faction and press the "Start Campaign" arrow, but instead of loading me into the game it takes me to a copy of the New Game menu except the only button that works on it is the one that takes me back to the main menu.
How do I recruit grail knights
Good Question. You need a Circus Maximus. So you'll need to be an epic City (24,000+ pop)
Hey, you did a great explanation video! Thank you so much! I followed your instructions and I started the campaign normally but when the game crashes when the WRE turns comes :( any idea what to do ?
Hello! Sorry I missed this. If you took settlements from WRE as suggested in the video then there's a good chance you made a small error when removing data from their section of the file. It's probably just a missing line. Normally it's easiest to start the descr_strat file again in that case. If you still have the issue then reinstalling may unfortunately have to be the way.
Can you do one of these faction guides for the Sarmatians, please?
I assume you mean a faction strategy or historical guide to the faction? You should be able to play as the Sarmatians.
@@ToNerdistoHumanTNH Yeah, that’s what I meant. And when I initially typed my previous comment, that’s what I initially believed THIS video was. I typed it before actually watching the video.
You could have put a the modified file in a link for us to download. :P Saving 15 minutes to each of yours viewers, that would add up to entire days.
found one on moddb
@@RAGEHomesweetvault what is it called
Респект тебе за труды
ive been trying to do this and it just wont work for me. thank you so much for the guide haha i just keep messing up on a spaceing or something or a cut instead of copy or copy instead of cut.. oh well maybe another time.
Idk if you'll see this comment but I've done everything like in the vid and it worked perfectly at first, but while im busy playing, my faction leader dies of old age and suddenly its game over for me. Its like the game wont let my heir inherit and the moment my faction leader dies all my settlements are rebels and it gives me the game over screen. Idk how to fix it 😢
Anyone else having trouble with getting your economy up? I’ve kinda had to use the add money cheat to keep me afloat 😅🤦🏼♂️
noup, just don't train much troops, and keep garrisons as low as possible
If you kill off the Celts quickly then you have a fairly safe set of lands to garrison with small troop amounts (though beware of Saxons obviously). They're not swimming in cash but you should be okay.
Hi, it works really good but why I can't recruit bucellarii. There are in a custom battle but not in the campaign.
Hello! The units available for custom battles often involves 1 or 2 units not normally recruitable. Usually they are mercenaries though, so this one is a tad unusual. In the Export_descr_unit file the romano-British are listed under bucellarii so you don't need to edit that. The issue seems to be that they don't have a building to recruit it from so you need to edit the export_descr_buildings file in the data folder. Go to the section with the range buildings and add Romano-British onto the list for bucellarii recruitment. That worked for me! Here's a guide on editing that file! Good Luck! ua-cam.com/video/A3APXpxg9Zo/v-deo.html
@@ToNerdistoHumanTNH Thank you.
Hey I seem to have a problem. I copied everything you did but the game doesn't go past the intro and even if it does, when I start it says "please select a valid product"
Could you please put the whole modded "descr_strat.txt" file in the descripliton so I can just swap my file with yours. It would make this much easier :)
En iPhone ya tienes todas las facciones, excepto romanos rebeldes
¡Es una suerte que yo también tenga guías para esas facciones!
I did everything you did down to the T. dont know why it wont work. cant go in game as Romano-Brits or Romans
when i go to start campaign it brings me back to the main menu? any tips man?
I can only assume that there's an error in the coding.
Most likely it's not having a line space where one is due. It's often a simple thing like that. When I get that problem though it's always easier to replace the file and start again with a fresh version of Descr_strat. Trying to find the error is like a needle in a haystack.
To Nerd is to Human TNH cheers man
Didn't work for me. None of my campaigns load now. Followed your guide step by step.
Changing descr_strat only changes newly launched games so it won't be that effecting the old save files. Changing things in export_descr_unit or descr_names will have knock on effects though if things don't match up. Did you make any extra changes in those files at all?
Ok now play it!
also replace limitanei with costal levy
will it work if I type the names?
You can type names into Descr_strat, yes! They will only come up in the game if they are in the 'name' file which is in data/text folder. But you can add names into that file and it will work!
I've watched ur vid like 5 times n it's still not working. I guess no romano faction for me :(
I finally got it to work lol
Marvellous! I hope you're enjoying it!
What did you do to get it working? i followed video to a T and hasnt worked for me
it didnt work...i tweaked a lot more but still did as you did..only a few name changes...and it crashed when i tried to load the campaign :c please help
Name changes to characters, buildings or units? Fiddling with the names is very temperamental. Here's my guide on adding character names: ua-cam.com/video/hnt3C2U5jpI/v-deo.html
Start by copying what I've done here and make sure it's solid and runs. Then save a copy of that file and keep editing from there. Good Luck!
i have a pirated version of the game, and i did exactly as you said in the video, and it doesnt want to start a campaign. i click the romano-british and click the arrow to start campaign it just brings me to the load campaign etc. screen. any tips to fix that?
Where did u got the pirated version of the game?
@@SteelFlesher bro u literally have a video on your channel??
Now lombards
Lombards should be as simple as cutting them from unplayable to playable in the Descr_strat file! :)
I Dont Understand How You Made Them Have The Settlements
I Think You Went To Fast
In seriousness, Honorius had no choice, the West was weakening and he needed all the Legions he could get
could you please post or send to my email the edited desc_strat file?
My email is on the channel page. Drop me a line!
You have commited a tiny mistake by copying the base Roman generals for Romano-Briti. The starting general for R-B is always Christian, and for some reason all generals that popped for me when playing them legitimatelly (observing the game until R-B popped out naturally) were Christian (9 out of 9 were Christian for me).
Hmmmm… straight to main menu thing again…. Dang.. uninstall reinstall ohh well I’ll try again
First in the race xD
get bi vanilla mod,and play the mod,it is better than vanilla anyway
