General Grabber APT Review - Is it right for you?

- Опубліковано 30 вер 2024
- Today we're doing a General Grabber APT Review. The General Grabber APT is developed to be a little less aggressive all-terrain tire to go on OE applications like the Nissan Titan and some other OE applications. A lot of newer trucks have these on and people were pretty happy with the APT's, and obviously people were interested in it if they've been asking and commenting asking for a review about it.
Let me know what you think of the General Grabber APT Review and tell me if you would run these on your vehicle?

Lol. Thanks!
have had them on my 4runner for about a year and they're great for the daily driving. Performed well in the winter as well and quiet
Awesome!
I'm doing tire research and this is the 3rd video of yours I've watched today. Thank you for posting these informative videos.
Glad it was helpful!
@@CampusautoCo.. I am looking for an all around tire for the 25' Motorhome RV. I was looking at the Cooper Discoverer® AT3 ... and then these came up.
I am in the desert (rocks) a lot and yet a lot of highway from place to place...
>>>>> so which one would you say to get???
Had the Continental terrain contact version (they own General tires) on a previous vehicle and I was very happy with the traction on and off road. Very quiet. Excellent handling in rain. Probably the best on-road all terrain tires.
Great channel! Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but the siping on these tires looks incredibly shallow... shouldn't siping run the full depth of the tread blocks rather than just like 20% of it? Otherwise when you wear just 25-30% through the tire there is ZERO siping left. Are the sipes that shallow on these or are they just sealed up on the edges of the tread blocks?
You are right. The sipes look very shallow. I need to see a set well worn to see how they do.
@@CampusautoCo Looks like i'd better keep shopping... maybe you can help? I'm looking for a 95% highway tire for an E350 Super Duty van conversion but i want snow, sand, gravel, and dirt road traction and a SLIGHTLY more aggressive look. I like these and the Continental Terrain Contact AT but the weight and price of those are making me hesitant. Heavy tires drink a lot of gas and this van already gets like 13-14mpg... any suggestions? I always run BFG KO2 on my 4runner (Best AT tires out there in my opinion) but don't want the weight and mileage penalty... The Pirelli Scorpions look good too but also look a little too off road oriented.... I'd love your thoughts and maybe a few suggestions to look into... i'm all ears!
Yeah, I have the 2021 F150 Powerboost.
I actually got general artic LT studded on for winter.
But I have 17 inch rims for mostly Highway/Rain/ and Sand for the Dunes. Loved my Land Rover LR4 with the Yokohama GeoLanders on them. They did great! but for some reason I kept getting things like a broken Chain, and nails in them to much in my mind. Or where I drive.
But now, I'm more conscious with weight for 34 inch tire, oe size was 33 inch. So now I am focusing on roll resistance, LT for towing, highway, rain, and definitly sand. Which I always air down, thats why I wanted 17 inch rims for mor side wall. Whats your take on good tires?
@@PNWLiving1725 jury is still out... i run BFG TA/KO2 on my 4runner and I won't change... it's too good in all conditions and they wear well too. I do run E rated which is a tougher sidewall but I ran the C and tore one - same experience with the Duracraps (torn sidewall on rocks) which were C rated too.... i prefer E rated even on the 4Runner for this reason. Still haven't pulled the trigger on the van tires yet.
Have a set of these on my 03 4runner. Drive it 60 miles a day and have about 25000 miles on the tires. These are very good in the rain, excellent in the snow, and great on everything else. Not hardly any wear yet, and so far very happy with them.
Right on!
How do the General Grabber APTs do in rainy and icy conditions?
Im coming from michelin defenders ltx/ms2.
I have it in my 04 Tahoe Lt and they are really good on the highway in the summer and the winter here in southern Ontario Canada 👍🏻👍🏻
Right on
Looks like the sipes are not Full depth and actually quite shallow. No thanks. I might try a set of Nokian Outpost APT’s though if I don’t buy another set of Falken AT’s.
All your videos are great. We just got my wife a 2021 Bronco Outerbanks (Full Size) and we are not in love with the factory Bridgestone Dueler AT RHS (255/70r18). I am doing a level kit and would like to go with a 275/70r18 for a better appearance. My wife does mostly on road driving over a mountain in Upstate NY and will do occasional light off road, sand driving and tow a boat. My research keeps bring me back to the Grabber APT as a good balance for our needs. We like the slightly more aggressive look but I am stuck on if the LT275/70r18 or P275/70r18 better fits our needs. Any help would be appreciated.
I was told that you buy tires like meat...by the pound. Would be great if you could tell us how much a tire weighs, thanks.
The siping looks very shallow. Can you see how deep they are?
Just put a set of these on my transit 250 and they ride sooooo smooth and yes they are stable and quiet ride on the highway
I had a set of general ht that were factory on my 21 Titan. They super smooth and had no balance issues. I have a set of the factory Toyo a26 on it now, and they don’t balance well. I’d be much happier with the general’s! I hate vibration! Looking for my next tire & this was my first set of generals I always heard they were cheap, but my experience has been positive. Considering this tire for sure
How do these stack up against the Cooper AT3 4S? Considering both of these tires for my F150 that’s really only driven on the road. I’m looking for quiet and smooth but with a more aggressive look than highway tires.
Pass on the Cooper. Look at the Continental Terrain Contact AT.
Ram 1500 Classic Quad Cab 4x4 w/Hemi. Live in the Northeast (greater NY area). 20” stock rims. Am a spirited driver. Not too much off-road. Almost never tow. Need good rain/snow though. Comparing these vs the Cooper AT3 4s vs others? What would you suggest?
Both tires at 3PMSF rated so they will perform fine in the snow. You could also try the General Grabber ATX.
@@CampusautoCo I appreciate your feedback. So I’m trying to decide between:
Cooper AT3-4s vs Cooper AT3-XLT vs General Grabber ATX. What do you think and why? I think my only concern with the Grabber is the longevity.
@@shlomopomeranz8938 Depends on your vehicle. I have a 2019 F150 and run Toyo ATll's, load range E 10 ply rated, and it rides like a lumber wagon as you have to have enough air pressure to be safe. I do tow and some mild off road. I'm going back to a standard load tire as they'll do what I need and won't rattle the fillings out of my teeth. From your explanation of what you do, I'd stick to a standard load tire unless you have a heavy duty vehicle...then you'll be fine with the load range E tire. I'm looking at the General APT or the Continental Terraincontact A/T. I'm in Wisconsin and need good snow traction, so I'll have added siping cut into the one I choose if I feel it's needed. If I ever do go back to a E load tire....BF KOll's are worth the little extra money as long as they're not DT stamped.
I just put these on my 2020 F350 dually. A little firmer ride than the factory Michelin but more stable towing and just as quiet When I went looking I wanted something in the middle from hwy and a true AT tire this seems to fit the mold for me
Awesome. Keep me posted on how they do.
How are they holding up so far?
I have these on my 2023 Ford Rattler. Very pleased with the so far.
I was between this ones and the apx but decided to go with this one because i don't need as aggressive off roading, I'll rather have the better highway wear. Also i needed 225 75r 15 for my duly and there is no light truck tire for the apx at that size
Try the General Grabber HTS60 on the Dually
@@CampusautoCo hts60 hows it in the snow
Anyone know if those sipes are full tread depth? Doesn’t look like it.
I have a Escape 2010 will theses be good for me.
I made the mistake of buying som A/S 80K Dueller HL Alenzatieres for my Jeep and it's useless in the snow! I'm screwed since they only has 30k on them. They were best tires I've even run on pavement...but useles on gravel, snow, dirt. Also seems like they will only get 50K even for a 80k tire! WTF? I'm getting som Cooper or Grabber A/T's next!
Yes. Get something a little better like a General Grabber APT or Continental Terrain Contact AT.
18’ F150, looking for a little bigger tire for the stock rim. These are the only ones that come in size 275/70R18 in a P rating. Thoughts on these vs a LT rated tire??? Thanks!!
Same question!
Go with the LT or keep the same size.
Would this be a good tire for 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee ?
Yes
I just got the APT for my truck that I will also be using for snow plowing. Should I Have gone with the ATX?
Let us know how they last. The atx don't last very long on a 3/4 ton especially if you tow even occasionslly according to reviews. The grabber x3's however hold up pretty well, but they're a mud terrain but very quiet according to reviews.
Thinking this would be a good tire on an awd honda element for a little more confidence in ice and snow when going up to the mountains.
I would agree with that.
is this tire suitable for all-terrain weekend warrior off-road use? Does it compare similarly to the Cooper Discoverer AT3?
It would be ok. The Cooper Discoverer AT3 is better off road.
Any updated reviews on this tire? I’m wanting to get these installed on my 06’ Dodge Ram 1500 this 95% on pavement and 5% gravel backroads (maybe more). I do load the truck dow pretty often either in the bed or towing. Thank you sir.
Would you say this is a similar tire to the Continental TerrainContact AT? Unfortunately, the Continental does not come in the size I need and even if it did I heard Continentals are hard to come by at the moment. Any other tires that you would recommend besides this? Helpful info on your channel, thanks!
Yes but the APT is 3 peak snowflake rated.
Really liked these on my 2019 Ranger. However they wouldn’t balance. Rotated every 5K checked truck for alignment issues because they weren’t wearing even. Only have about 35k on them and they are completely shot.
Thanks for the review, I have a Wrangler JKU and will be switching from the BFG KO2's...don't need the road noise and it looks like the General Grabber tires cost a lot less and are 10lbs lighter per tire.
Nice video! I’m def going with General for my 2011 Tacoma in NH. Keep up the great videos!
Is the Grabber APT basically the same tire as the Continental AT that you put on your Ram? Anyone have real world snow experience with these on a 2WD truck.
No, its not the same. IT has a different tread design and different compounds.
Thanks for your replies. I watched alot of your vids and I'm just trying to find a good tire since I deliver trailers from Indiana to just about anywhere.
I ordered a set for Jeep XK Commander Overland to replace a set of Grabber AT2 which have run 66,500 miles over ten years. Not worn out yet!
Did you consider this tire when you were looking for tires for you Dodge. If not why thank.
No. They didn't make the right size for my truck.
I had a set of these on my ranger. I was really happy with them, I had 25,000 in them when I traded the truck in and they were over 85% tread. If you want a cheap alternative to some terrain contacts these are hard to beat
Thanks for the feedback!
These are more expensive than terrain contacts in my area
Love General. I went with the AT/X based on your recommendation. Took them off road last weekend on a hunting trip and man were they awesome! Cut through mud like a hot knife through butter. Thanks again!
Awesome!
I need a tire that can handle snow very well because we get snow 8 months out of the year, but I do mainly highway driving to and from work. Does this do that?
They are three peak snowflake rates but you might look at the Firestone Destination XT
@@CampusautoCo okay I’ll take a look. Also, how do these tires do with towing?
I just got these tires and I live in north west Indiana. Will let you know my opinion as the winter continues
Please do!
Would this be a good tire for a Tundra? Its has the factory Dueler HTs on it.
Yes it would
The altering in the threadblocks is for resonance. That the noise does not become a constant singing noise.
It looks very similar to the Continental Contact AT tire. I know Continental owns them. What is the Treadwell on these tires etc. Thanks Kenny.
Enjoy watching your videos as well. Thank you for the time it takes! Looking to replace the OEM tires on a new Grand Cherokee limited 4x4. Mostly on road and occasional off in NC. Thinking between the General APT and Hankook AT2. Any suggestions? Wanted the Toyo AT3's but think it may be a little too aggressive for a new Jeep that I'm not trying to beat up just yet. :-)
Look at the Continental Terrain Contact AT. Pass on the other two.
@@CampusautoCo Thank you! I was looking at those too, but since they are more $$ and don't have the snow rating, I was leaning away. But it really doesn't snow that much here and what's $200 over about 5 years? lol. Thanks for the reply!
I have new 2022 GMC 1500 4x4 that came with the Bridgestone Duller AT RHS tires. Great looking tire but falls short on winter road driving. Would the APT be a better overall tire than the Bridgestone? How do you think this General compares in looks to the Bridgestone?
I have the same exact question
These came on my 2021 F150 that I ordered. I've got the heavy duty payload, FX 4 and max tow packages with 18 in rims. I thought the truck would come with the Goodyear Wrangler Territory AT tires. Funny thing is I was all set to dump the Goodyear's and buy these so I was very pleased to see them on the truck when I picked it up. They ride great for an LT tire.
Cool
nice! F150 so did it come P rated or the LT tire?
@@fishman80 The tires came LT rated. I don't know if that is standard or if the rating got bumped up because I ordered the heavy duty payload and off-road packages. I can say the tires ride and handle well. Have not tried them in snow though.
@@rickbrockthedog8017 That’s great glad it worked out for you!! I’m just always curious of those types coming on 1500s because it wasn’t a thing years ago. And I always struggle with the tire pressure from an E tire on a 1500. I usually just run 50
@@fishman80 Just for the record if anyone else is interested...these LT tires on my 2021 F150 came as C rated tires for 2750lbs payload. So they're run at 50lbs air pressure which is a much better ride than LT tires that are E rated and 80lbs air pressure like I had on my 3/4 ton. Those beat me to pieces.
Thank you for the review 👍
My pleasure!
Anyone have any experience with balancing these tires? Looking at these and continental terraincontact a/t. In a different video Matt said the terraincontacts were difficult to balance. I believe I have this issue with my wildpeak at3w's so looking to get something easier because I don't want to feel my brain rattle inside my skill at 80mph on the highway anymore
The gentleman in the vid said the APT balances well. However, if you are a high speed runner like you said...you are probably often seeing 90 mph or 200 kph, eh? So, you may need to re-evaluare your ride. A Dodge Durango Hellcat rides smoothly @ 200kph. You might like it. General makes several tire models for that truck. Let's Roll!
Are the sipes full depth?
Hey I live in Minnesota and I’m just wondering if these will handle well in snowy conditions and if they will last a while, I’ve got a 99 Silverado 1500. Thanks!
Yes it will
What ply tires are these
please compare the Apt’s and the terrain contact A/T, like if you agree!
I think I've got something on the way that you will like.
thanks guys!
Campus Automotive Inc road noise is my biggest complaint, I have Ko2’s right now and looking for a high tread depth/good looking tire to replace them with
@@CampusautoCo Any new thoughts on APT vs TerrainContact?
Cool
Thanks!
How would these wear on a dually?
Not bad on the rear. They might cup a little on the front.
@@CampusautoCo Yes, I have been battling cupping/irregular wear with Nitto EXOs. Looking for something less aggressive that is NOT prone to cupping. Do any of the Michelins wear evenly on a dually?
The Defender LTX does good.
Hi , We want a video on the topic of why the Hankook dynapro ATM f10 tire is still better and more expensive than the Hankook dynapro AT2 f11 tire, even though the Hankook dynapro AT2 tire is an updated version of the Hankook dynapro ATM tire , We want to compare the two tire
I think ts being phased out as we speak. Some sizes are left but I'd hate to do a review on a lame duck tire.
Nice video. I have been curious about these tires myself. I am turning into a tire junkie! Would you rate these better than the firestone A/T 2's? Keep the content coming!
I think the Firestone would be slightly better overall.
Is anyone else making a comparable tire other than Continental? Trying to find something similar but a bit cheaper for my wife's SUV. Maybe I can catch these on sale.
Try the new Hankook AT2
I agree!
Somewhat similar design to the Dueler revo 3. Would have considered this tire but want a slightly larger size so ended up with the Dueler 3's in 295/70r18
Awesome. Let me know how they do!
Oh and I'm liking the videos
Thanks!
Basically this is a Continental contact terrain?
Not quiet but designed in the same building
I would run these if they came in a 10ply.
I would try something different in that ply range. Something more heavy duty.
They do.
They do come in a 10 Ply I will be getting a set for my ford XLT to change from the stock tires and will be hauling a 25ft 5th wheel with them on,,, I was quoted from the Ford Dealership with a 10 ply for that reason,,
Are apt a good tire for towing a travel trailer?
I think so
Are you still pleased with the
Continental Crosscontact AT you put on your truck?
I have a 19 Ram 1500 Limited with Factory 22” rims.
Would you recommend the
Continental for my truck?
So far I have been very pleased. I have a set on my truck and my Suburban.
I have a old school vehicle I'm struggling trying to find the right tire for it
1978 Econoline 150 high top conversion
It will be mainly used on the highways
Walking with a post but we do have a long dirt driveway we will be towing a small boat with it every once in awhile taking road trips and going into national Forest no overlanding but I'll probably push it a few times
Want something quiet as possible comfortable is possible on the highway but can still do a little in the dirt sand gravel
Safety is a high factor too because the grandkids will be with us
✌️💜
This tire would be ok.
