I hope you come to know God's love. There's a reason Thrice is some of the only Christian contemporary music I listen to. You can tell the music he writes really means something.
Teppei really puts his heart behind that "Come all you weary" line.. Haven't I heard that story somewhere before? :) Such an insightful and introspective band, not to mention incredibly talented. God bless them. And may they continue to rock!
This song just tugs at the strings of your hearts. This song is just so deep it is nearly describable. Thrice is an excellent band. Beards are awesome.
Thrice is one of the most talented, legitimate, creative, and versatile bands out there. I can find as much enjoyment out of listening to this as something like Paper Tigers. They're one of the few bands that continues to progress and get better. Thank God for these amazing gentlemen
I would go as far to say God speaks through all things. As Christians we are not limited by anything, all though God knows whats the appropriate food for us to eat always. :)
The thing most people tend to forget is that Thrice is NOT religion. They may be religious individuals in they're own way but they never will bash another persons beliefs. I am a proud Pagan and when I met Dustin he should be the out-most RESPECT even if I had a pentacle around my neck... He even said " Can't wait to see you next year!!! "
When I listen to the song, I can see myself lying down on soft green grass, staring at the blue cloudy sky with the warm sun shining on me, as I lay among tombstones circling a tree. Yet, it is relaxing to lie among the dead.
Man...As much as I enjoy reading how much this band influences both the religious and atheist alike, how is it that the top comment isn't about how Teppei NAILED the back-up vocals on this? Last I checked it was all about the music, after all. Just saying...
Absolutely phenomenal. The sincere musical inspiration, the heart and soul poured into their music. Thrice is a band of true musicians. I'm glad that they're around while I'm alive.
totally agree. I like how they express themselves without shoving it onto others. yet they are able to express their love for God in such a beautiful way
This is easily one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard - and also one of the best acoustic performances I've been listening to....glad that I'm able to type in here for I'm absolutely speechless....
I remember the first time I heard "Stare at the Sun" and thought how good these guys were. I always liked Thrice somewhat, but this new stuff they're putting out, this kind of song writing is what seperates these guys from the rest of mainstream radio. They have proven to me they are capable of more than just your typical radio friendly material. And this is why Thrice isn't just one of those bands you hear on the radio. Good stuff.
Absolutely love this song and the album is amazing been a fan of thrice since the beginning and they have yet to disappoint me yet amazing song and teppei's voice has really improved the chorus songs awesome with both of them.
Like Moths To Flame Image Of The Invisible Dust Of Nations Music Box Words In The Water All The World Is Mad Hold Fast Hope Anthology Disarm In Exile The Weight Of Glory These are just a few Thrice songs that relate to scripture. Check out the lyrics.. Also Dustin has done some solo stuff recently like Grace Alone and This Is War...not religious but it is based on scripture..there is a big difference between religion and true followers of Christ.
@TurtleSensei Flags of Dawn was on the the Red Sky EP along with Weight of Glory along with acoustic live versions of Of Dust and Nation, Red Sky, For Miles, and Under a Killing Moon.
I actually didn't know Thrice was a Christian band until someone told me like, six months ago. THEN I noticed all the religious symbolism. I like that their music isn't all cheesy and poorly put together, and that they don't scream "JESUS!!!" every four seconds like so many other bands do.
To love at all is to be vulnerable. Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.”
Its sad when drama fills the air for a band about religious beliefs. Even though a lot of they're music is Christian INFLUENCED doesn't mean they are closed minded Christians set to judge others. This is why I LOVE THIS BAND, they go for everyone Christians/Pagans and everyone who has a ear for GREAT music that has progressed throughout the years they have been together.
this is one of the few christian bands i can listen to. i am very unreligous, pretty much atheist but thrice is far from preachy and sings their beliefs with amazing musical talent
@ssgohan556 Thrice tends to drive home the message contained within the verses, the parts that over-all promote the hope and dignity of mankind, and not the ones that spread Jesus all over the place.
Haha, I was the exact same, I'm not sure how I found out but I was like 'no waaay...oh I see whatcha mean' True that, that understand the concept of subtlety, which most Christian bands just don't get
Goddammit enough with the whole religious or "I'm not religious" bullshit! This is music! You get to experience an amazing piece of art. What do you have to say to that?!
Just a heads up; just because band members are Christian does not make them a Christian band. These songs (from the Earth portion of The Alchemy Index) speak of the relationship between mankind and the earth. Child of Dust is in the point of view of the earth, about how humanity has destroyed so much of the earth, yet when they die they become part of the earth once more.
Lmfao? Have you listened to any of the lyrics in Vheissu or Beggars? Care to explain these away too? I wonder if that name Thrice has something to do with the trinity? We Christians are everywhere my friend.
Why are atheists so easily offended? Thrice believes in God and makes references to Christian scriptures throughout several of their albums..so what? Can't you just enjoy it as the great music it is? If you want some atheist nonsense, go listen to anything that's on MTV these days. This is probably too deep and insightful for you. Grow up snowflakes.
12 years later and this song still gives me the chills and makes me emotional.
Its magic
I'm an Atheist, and I know Dustin is a thriving Christian, but that doesn't stop me from loving their music and respecting Dustin.
God find you yet?
You still around Fuzzo!?
I hope you come to know God's love. There's a reason Thrice is some of the only Christian contemporary music I listen to. You can tell the music he writes really means something.
Still listening in 2025! Timeless music and lyrics right here.
I never new Teppei's voice was so amazing holy shit!
Been loving Thrice over 20 years now and have not once seen Teppei put so much into the backup vocals..Amazing.
This is the most beautiful song ever written.
This entire song he's quoting Jesus Christ. Love it
+Tattoogroo It annoys me that no one wants to admit it. I'm a non believer, but it's still incredibly beautiful.
+Zak Johns i dont belive in god but hey if there is a god it would explain dustins talent and thrice's in music
look up John Lennox please :) also Ravi Zacharias
505 Jesus is more than a prophet he is God Ravi is wonderful
You dont have to be religious to believe that Jesus Christ was a remarkable man.
Teppei is singing the big notes and dustin is harmonizing. Never new Teppei was that good just makes thrice that much more unreal!
Teppei really puts his heart behind that "Come all you weary" line.. Haven't I heard that story somewhere before? :)
Such an insightful and introspective band, not to mention incredibly talented. God bless them. And may they continue to rock!
16 yrs and I absolutely love this song still! STILL my top 3 favorites
This song just tugs at the strings of your hearts. This song is just so deep it is nearly describable. Thrice is an excellent band. Beards are awesome.
Dustin Kensrue has to be one of the most talented men I've ever seen. The fact that he's also drop dead gorgeous is an added bonus.
Teppei's voice!!!! I always thought Dustin was going high on the vocals but dang!
Dustin and Teppei have PERFECT musical chemistry, their voices match so perfectly together as well
Thrice is one of the most talented, legitimate, creative, and versatile bands out there. I can find as much enjoyment out of listening to this as something like Paper Tigers. They're one of the few bands that continues to progress and get better. Thank God for these amazing gentlemen

One of the greatest songs ever written
When my sister died over Thanksgiving this past year, this song was a gift from above for my soul. Thank you!
By the way, I love the vibe this song puts out - it has a very traditional folk vibe but with a smooth modern edge.
Just awesome.
totally agree. I like how they express themselves without shoving it onto others. yet they are able to express their love for God in such a beautiful way
Worshipping with you this morning, brother!
Hello goose bumps on my arm!!
Breathtaking.
This is easily one of the most beautiful songs I ever heard - and also one of the best acoustic performances I've been listening to....glad that I'm able to type in here for I'm absolutely speechless....
Awesome vocal harmonies......very impressive
best song on earth and one of the best songs ever
i love this song ... that guitar was the exact kind and colour that i had for my first guitar
Exactly! Which is why Thrice is such a wonderful band!
i love this song, i love how it corrisponds with the verse in the Bible, and how they did it so well
oh my godd... whenever he comes what that guitar picking, I go crazy... sounds so awesome...
I remember the first time I heard "Stare at the Sun" and thought how good these guys were. I always liked Thrice somewhat, but this new stuff they're putting out, this kind of song writing is what seperates these guys from the rest of mainstream radio.

Good stuff.
they just seem devoted to what they create, which makes for an epic performance. Good Stuff.
Absolutely love this song and the album is amazing been a fan of thrice since the beginning and they have yet to disappoint me yet amazing song and teppei's voice has really improved the chorus songs awesome with both of them.
yeah he has tons uf Christian undertones throughout a lot of his lyrics. He's a great musician. Love a lot of his solo stuff too
Like Moths To Flame
Image Of The Invisible
Dust Of Nations
Music Box
Words In The Water
All The World Is Mad
Hold Fast Hope
Anthology
Disarm
In Exile
The Weight Of Glory
These are just a few Thrice songs that relate to scripture. Check out the lyrics..
Also Dustin has done some solo stuff recently like Grace Alone and This Is War...not religious but it is based on scripture..there is a big difference between religion and true followers of Christ.
I have yet to come across any other band with such insightful and introspective lyrics. God bless 'em.
"Spurned in fine restaurants and kicked out of church...I'll take your burdens and you can take mine." Beautiful.
come all you weary sends shivers down my spine hardcore...
This is incredible.
@TurtleSensei Flags of Dawn was on the the Red Sky EP along with Weight of Glory along with acoustic live versions of Of Dust and Nation, Red Sky, For Miles, and Under a Killing Moon.
How amazing would it be if Teppei got some vocal duties on the next album.
That´s great...Thank you guys for this emotional song :)
I actually didn't know Thrice was a Christian band until someone told me like, six months ago. THEN I noticed all the religious symbolism. I like that their music isn't all cheesy and poorly put together, and that they don't scream "JESUS!!!" every four seconds like so many other bands do.
I know!! I just love these guys! :)

Flags of Dawn was on the Red Sky EP, and yes this is its own single, but it was also released on the Alchemy Index Vol. III & IV
So epic! Praise God...
I had no idea Teppei! Great voice!
Thrice is food for the soul and its caned food so it should last a while. Much longer than perishable bands
@TurtleSensei falgs of dawn was off a European EP release called the "red Sky" ep and its freaking amazing you might be able to find it on itunes too
I'm not particularly religious at all but I find Thrice SO easy to listen to because they don't shove the religious metaphors down your throat
Totally Agree! Perfection!
люблю їх вже 13 років)
No need for metaphors when it's straight scripture! Thrice is awesome!
Unfortunately people these days need simple lyrics and manufactured music. No one ever takes the time to listen to and understand meaningful music.
@logansibley22 Its just tuned a whole step down from standard tuning.
Its sad when drama fills the air for a band about religious beliefs. Even though a lot of they're music is Christian INFLUENCED doesn't mean they are closed minded Christians set to judge others. This is why I LOVE THIS BAND, they go for everyone Christians/Pagans and everyone who has a ear for GREAT music that has progressed throughout the years they have been together.
becuase it for for the alchemy index. which is about the four elements.
Teppei has to have the sweetest beard on a Japanese dude, ever...
Only saw this comment a minute ago (five months later haha) that's awesome!
nice harmony by teps...its been a while since the 'squeak'
@BigButtPaperWings Why thank you!
Greatness
this is one of the few christian bands i can listen to. i am very unreligous, pretty much atheist but thrice is far from preachy and sings their beliefs with amazing musical talent
Epic Teppei!
I totally forgot their songs are religious...
I love this one though.
i can't tell who's singing which part during the chorus
the verse in the Bible is Matthew 11:28-30 i believe
Epic
@ssgohan556 Thrice tends to drive home the message contained within the verses, the parts that over-all promote the hope and dignity of mankind, and not the ones that spread Jesus all over the place.
did anyone fucking noticed that the guitarist has a much better voice!? is an amzing artist....
@gorillazinc123 can't listen to old thrice anymore even though IC got me into them. I've grown up and matured with them.
Haha, I was the exact same, I'm not sure how I found out but I was like 'no waaay...oh I see whatcha mean'
True that, that understand the concept of subtlety, which most Christian bands just don't get
Goddammit enough with the whole religious or "I'm not religious" bullshit! This is music! You get to experience an amazing piece of art. What do you have to say to that?!
Prefer this to the recorded version.
Does anyone what tuning they are in???
Shit is soulful. Beautiful.
Someone please tell me where I can get tabs!
Baking vocals by teppei nice
The book of Matthew chapter 11 verse 28-30.
@Rescueispossiblerock Pretty sure he's full Japanese, isn't he?
4:20
Also even if the music has religious metaphors you don't have to be religious to understand or to actually be able to listen
Just a heads up; just because band members are Christian does not make them a Christian band. they are alchemists.
Wouldn't matter either way. They're write good songs.
Lmfao? Have you listened to any of the lyrics in Vheissu or Beggars? Care to explain these away too? I wonder if that name Thrice has something to do with the trinity? We Christians are everywhere my friend.

Mine does to when I sing along...ok maybe not...
live version is WAY BETTER than the record.
Man Teppei has got good at back ups
no microphones!
Religion is not about belief bashing. The words from this song are from the bible almost verbatim. That is religious.
I didn't know they're christian... never noticed it.
what verse?
what tuning is this in(gutair)?
Haha yeah I did say that a bit a too much
I really want one of Teppei's wallets
@ssgohan556 kinda like killswitch engage
Song suuked from 4:20, but i climax'd at 1:54 !!!!
