great frav of mine this spot, alas closed of if you have to travel by car now. we will all enjoy again once this panic-demic is all other . until then we have your videos. thanks
History Lesson. On the 15th February 1943 a Wellington Mk.III HF613 / DD-R of No.22 OTU took off during the mid-morning of from Wellesbourne Mountford near Stratford upon Avon for a cross country flight. At just after 13:00 the aircraft descended out of bad weather (possibly due to icing) and became enveloped in a snow storm, shortly afterwards the aircraft crashed, seemingly out of control, with a steep nose down attitude near to Peakshole Water. The aircraft slide for a short distance, crossing the river and striking a large embankment on the other side where the aircraft was completely destroyed.Three of the five crew are buried at Buxton Cemetery, they are Sgt Cairns, Sgt Hackett and Sgt Kester. Back in 1997 there was a stir in Hope Village when residents said they saw a airplane of this type flying in mid air with no noise coming from the aircraft but the propellers were spinning and the plane disappeared beyond a valley never to be seen again. could this be the ghost plane that everyone talks about?
Hi Cheapgiggles, thank you. It is a beautiful walk and hope to be back this year to walk it again as we never get tired of this one. All the best The Taxi Driver
Thanks for you comment Huguette Roger it takes some beating does Castleton especially when the sun is shining. We try and walk there at least once a year. Keep watching all the best The Taxi Driver

discovered this part of the world last week....breathtaking. and to think all these I thought the lake district was the only place to be. how wrong get I have been😊. thank Mr taxidriver 😊
Hi Wayne thank you. We haven't done any walking in the Peak District for a long time but we do love the area especially Castleton where you can get a good B&B deal at the Cheshire Cheese Inn if you book at the last minute. All the best The Taxi Driver
HELLO MR AND MRS TAXI DRIVER....We had a short break 3 weeks ago and enjoyedthe Lose Hill and Mam Tor round....Thank You....We stayed at the Nags Head Hotelin Castleton - Mentioned in one of your earlier Vlogs...We thoroughly enjoyed staying there. Lovely atmosphere and great food. We are thinking of having another short break near Dove Dale and will be looking at some more of your walks....Can you recommend another nice place to stay...We feel it is just to far to travel from Castleton...Many Thanks - Take Care - Kindest Regard... Carol....
Hi ISME, glad you had a lovely time in Castleton we have also stayed in the Cheshire Cheese pub which does lovely meals and we always book it the night before. Buxton is closer to Dove Dale and would be a good place to stay, we have stayed there a few times but we never book until the last minute, using sites on the internet, and we always get a good deal paying no more £40 each per night and sometimes they are rated 4 star accommodation. Quite often we put our bags into the back of the car and where ever we are in the country we search for a B&B and if it is to highly priced we try somewhere else until we find what we want. We know it takes a bit of nerve to do it but you will find something at a reasonable price and most are always glad to take you in rather than have an empty room for the night. We hope this is of some help all the best The Taxi Driver
a right good work out was this, eh? lovely wind and wutherin' day.. so very relaxing as usual and so very inspiring as usual. more fodder for my next merry walks in England.
A lovely walk, maybe squirrels can be cross bred, I'm not sure but I think I heard or read somewhere that they can...thanks for sharing another great video...Ann...x
Hi Jason the idea of our video's is to help people who cannot map read very well. All this is done in our spare time as we are both still working. As you can imagine this cost us a pretty penny but we are determined not to charge a subscription the website is free for anybody to use we do our best. Regards The Taxi Driver
Good walk, but lots on information missing. Route includes Lose Hill, Back Tor, Hogs Back, Hollins Cross and Mam Tor. from Castleton there is a bit more variety to be had by taking the public footpath to Hope on the south side of the main road and coming up to Lose Hill via the public footpath from Eccles Close. After MamTor it is not too great a diversion to take in Windy Knoll bone cave, and when descending Winnats Pass, look out for the lightly grassed over track on the left which leads up to the Old Tor mine, which although now padlocked and cemented over, still has an exposed vein of Blue John above the sealed entrance, and a dirt bank where small pieces of the stone can still be found. (Quite often of a better quality then the scraps sold in the local shops as samples).
My Mrs keeps threatening me that we'll take a walk up there one sunday afternoon! Im up for it but that path looks kinda boring, she can take that route while I'm gonna try the 'run straight up the side of it technique' ;-)
I’ve been there many times but I still love watching your videos

Hi Muddatrucker, we are sure you and your wife, whichever route you take, will both enjoy it. All the best The Taxi Driver
O.m.g. How boring is the commentary! I did this walk sixty years ago in complete silence. So much better than a fake Derbyshire accent come Yorkshire!
