Which do you present when traveling the Philippines with two passport: U.S. or Philippines? This is often a confusing decision whether the Philippine passport should be presented or the US passport. This video will explain what you need to do when exiting the US, entering the Philippines, exiting the Philippines and reentering the US. It also briefly talks about using the Philippine passport when traveling to other foreign countries.

Just an important thing to point out because of the Japan example here. If you use your PH passport to enter Japan, you will need a Japanese visa. So that's why for short stays in Japan, I'll just use my US one.

Yes! When you enter Japan, you will need a visa if you are using a Philippine passport but if you are using a U.S passport, you do not need a visa.

Thank you sir, for all your information! My father was Filipino when I was born here in the US. I did a delay report of birth and got my passport as well. I’m so excited for this information because we did not know? I’m free to go to the Philippines and stay as long as I like and this is a dream come true.

The new rule on what to use when traveling from the US to the Philippines with two passports as a dual citizen: When exiting the US, always use your US passport. Entering the Philippines, use both passsports and get them stamped. When leaving the Philippines, use both passports as well and get them stamped. When entering the US, only use your US passport. Please check the US advisory on this.

I am a dual citizen and I always go back in the Philippines how many times and I always used my US passport, just recently I just came back from the Philippines April 11, 2019 and no hassle at all.. "No need to show the Philippine passport. If you are a dual citizen use the US passport, No questions at all, if you'want to be sure no hassle bring your certificate that you are a dual citizen. If you got in trouble or have a problem in your stay in the Philippines tell them that you are a US citizen". Who told us this? The officer of the homeland Security during our oath taking. "If you tell that you are a US citizen though you are a dual citizen, the help of US through the US embassy always there for you and they will back you and help". That's what the officer of the Homeland Security said to us.

The Philippines IS amazing, but how do you justify your statement about being able to stay there indefinitely? The Philippine government limits stays, as it should. Of course, just like every country in the world, those limits only apply to non-citizens. Nothing is inherently remarkable about a Filipino being able to stay in the Philippines indefinitely.

Thank you for this, however, there are a few corrections needed. First of all your US passport shows that you were born in the Philippines, so there's no need to show your Philippine passport. In fact, you can even stay in the Philippine for 1 year, if you want to. However, if you were NOT born in the US but you have both US and Philippine passport, I would present both of them at the check-in counter. Especially, if you are staying for more than 30 days. And when you arrive in the Philippines, present both passports to the immigration officer so you can avoid any issues (either case).
Since 2003, the Department of Homeland Security is more critical on how you enter and exit the United States. So personal opinion, it is better to Exit the US with a US passport and have your Philippine Passport as a supporting document.
Regarding the travel to Japan, Philippine passport needs a visa to enter Japan, while the US passport only needs Enter/Exit stamps upon arrival and can stay for 90 days. The same goes for Hong Kong and Singapore
FYI: Your Philippine passport is good when travelling to any ASEAN Nation (Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Cambodia, Myanmar, Laos Vietnam and Singapore), no visa required. While US passport will require Visa on Entry (depending on which country) which will cost you around $20 - $30 depending on the country.

  • @catnip2906
    @catnip2906 3 роки тому +11

A valid passport and visa are required for Filipino citizens who wish to enter and visit Japan. The Japanese government permits. U.S. citizens are visa free can stay up to 90 days. If Filipino go to Japan they will not let you leave the airport unless you have a valid visa (hard to get).

Helpful information! I am a dual citizen of U.S and Philippines. I have both of the passport and planning to visit in the Philippines sometimes in the future. I think your stay in the Philippines is limited if you are not a dual citizen even if you are Filipino and born there. That's what they said in the Philippines embassy. If you plan to retired in the Philippines after living and worked here in the U.S, you better get your dual citizenship, because you can't live in the Philippines for good like normal Filipinos if you're not citizen there, Just FYI.

the stamping of passports (entry and exit points) is no longer needed in this digital age as the machine you are passing at immigration booths captures both your facial features as well as your passport details. i've been visiting frequently advance countries like australia and they are no longer stamping passports if you pass through to their machines/booths without assistance (self-service entry/exit points). this is only true to advance countries where they have facilities to capture your details

When I didn't have a Philippine passport, I resized a copy of my Philippine Identification Certificate (BI form 26) to fit inside my US passport. Upon entering the Philippines, I give immigration my US passport with the ID cert insert. Without any hesitation, they would stamp my passport and write "RC" (recognized citizen) on the entry stamp. It works to the same effect of having a Philippine passport.

There are also certain countries like Brazil that require Americans prior visas before travelling to these countries, but not to Filipinos. Brazil has a law that requires those countries that require its citizens visa entry prior to travel to also apply for a brazilian tourist visa. Hence, Brazil does not require Filipinos visa before entry, because the Philippines does not require visas for Brazilians. There are other countries out there that follow this reciprocity logic.

    Let’s SIMPLIFY this issue:
US passport can take you IN so MANY countries around the WORLD 🌎 than Philippine passport without VISA!!
e.g. Israel and Spain are two countries that both Filipinos and Americans don’t need Visa to enter.!
But a lot of countries in Europe, Asia, Middle East and United Kingdom 🇬🇧 Canada 🇨🇦, Australia 🇦🇺, New Zealand 🇳🇿 and many more rich countries that let US passport to go IN WITHOUT visa but, unfortunately WITH visa to Philippine 🇵🇭 passport !!

Sir, I don't agree to your statement that you'll be needing two passport to go in and out of the U.S and the Philippines. First of all when your approved to have dual citizenship in the Philippines, they won't force to apply for Philippines Passport, because, once you become a dual citizen, you will received a "Certificate of Re-acquisition/Retention Of Philippine Citizenship", and this alone will be your passport in going in and out of our beloved county the Philippines. Just show the Philippine Immigration, your U.S. Passport and Certificate in coming in the country and out, and you don't need to show it to the American Immigration, in coming in the U.S., just show them your U.S. Passport. I been doing this for so many years, since I received my Dual Citizenship in the Philippines.

I traveled to Japan a couple of years ago. Myself and my two daughters, who are also dual citizens used our US passport and we didn’t have to get a Visa. However, my wife is not yet a US citizen and she had to go through Japanese embassy to get a visa to get inside Japan. This was back in 2017 and I think, if you’re a Filipino citizen you still need to get a Japanese visa if you want to go to Japan as of this moment. I haven’t heard anything that Filipino’s are not required a Japanese visa to enter Japan.

I have been able to transfer title of my father's property into my name, I can stay in the country for an unlimited time without going to an immigration office, I plan to open a business in the future and I have an acct at metrobank. I'm a dual citizen - Phl/U.S. - and I live in the Philippines. I only have one passport -U.S.-and there is no problem. You don't need a Phl passport. At the time you buy your airline ticket they will ask for your Nationality and the Passport No. Exiting the Phl, Immigration will exit stamp the passport. If U.S. is the destination of course there's no problem. I've traveled to Singapore and Japan from the Phl repeatedly and never needed a visa, entering back to the Phl, immigration just entry stamp my passport. Supposedly if you're a Balikbayan holding a U.S. passport you must exit the country in a year's time. But since I'm a Filipino citizen living in the country, they can't throw me out. I've lived in the Philippines for twenty years now and never had a problem with this issue.

If you're a dual citizen - U.S./PHL - you don't need a PHL passport. Travel from the U.S. to the PHL, present your U.S. passport at Immigration they will stamp it with no questions ask. When you travel out of the PHL just present your U.S. Passport, if it's over a year since you enter the PHL they MIGHT question you ( I was questioned only once) - just tell them you're a dual citizen and lives in the PHL, (you might show them you're Driver's License) - there was never an issue, I usually had no problem. That's how it's been for me - my personal experience I've traveled in and out of the PHL since I moved here in 2001. BTW I was born in the PHL.
