When I was 18 I stood a railroad tie up on end and stapled a target to it. At 15yds a 125gr. .357 XTP round came back and hit me in the chest. While the tie took a lot of energy off of it there was still a huge red spot left on my chest and I learned a valuable lesson about target angle, distance from target and how hard and impervious a railroad tie actually is.
30+ yrs since that happened and I still have that bullet which was lying at my feet after smacking me. Other than a little wood in the hollowpoint there was zero defamation. Thankfully that tie threw it back with 90% less speed!

Yep. I caught a 45 slug in the shin under similar circumstances.
