- 1997-2003, 2004-2008 F-150 balljoints are fairly easy to change if you do them this way. Assuming everything isn’t all rusted, of course. This is a 2003 (18 years old) that has been in Tennessee for every single winter.
That’s ingenuity at its best! The tricks some of us use, sometimes work better and faster. Thanks for the video.
Bro, I tried your method. Voila! It worked like a charm. I’m glad I found your video. Thanks a bunch!!
The balljoint press is too slow to mess with on these. 😎
That's real knowledge. Advanced hammer technique 101. Big fan, thank you for sharing.
I'll use the press, if I have one.
You can fracture the steel like that, also change the temper and molecular structure. Caution with excessive hardened steel to hardened steel contact.
Stay safe. Keep wrenching..
Yes. I just changed mine with a press.
Wow,,, there goes an idea. Using a 2 1/8 socket and a jack stand.
God, I love your video.
Thank you.
It's hammer time !!!:)
Nice work. Never seen it done like thar before
Add this to your little bag of tricks! Stick your new ball joints (you can do this same thing with sealed bearings as well) in the freezer for a couple hours then when your ready for installation heat up the lower control arm (with the bearings it's the spindle) the cold shrinks the ball joint and the heat expands the control arm. It practically falls in. 😉
Amazing man!! Thank you! I’ve been dreading this one my F-150
You can do them in a single evening without much sweat. Make sure to orient the lower joint grease fittings so you can reach them with a grease gun without a jack. Aim them straight forward but around 30* angled inward
You smart dude thanks a lot forreal 🎉
great video man thanks
Glad it helped! Buy one big 2-1/8” socket and it’s actually an easy job IF your vehicle isn’t rusty from spending winters up north.
They don't get messed up if you tighten them after you have load on the vehicle suspension. Tighten all rubber joints after truck settles
Correct.
You can also simply reinstall the A-arms at the exact same angle the old ones rested at, tighten them down, and set the vehicle down. The faster technique which we do at many dealerships without problem. We’ll make alignment marks before tearing the vehicle down.
The important thing is for the bushings to be in their natural state with the weight of the vehicle on the suspension. Rather than twisted up like a pretzel because you locked the bolts down with the arm well above or below the correct position. Weighted settled suspension is best, always, however.
I feel like this video was a big middle finger to the special tool manufacturers. 🤣
Put this video on 1.50x speed, your welcome
Hell yea, were Americans, not Ameri cants
