I was an electrician for forty years that`s why I won`t let my dog Randy do anything around the house. Other than clean the dishes. My joy in the past year has been being gifted Greenberg's guide to Marx Trains volumes one and three and gathering all the materials needed to build a Marx Lionel layout.
I couldn’t agree more with that centralia car shops Ce-9 caboose! I just picked one up last year from my local trainshow for 5 bucks in near perfect condition! It’s been one of my favorite cabooses to run ever since then!
My highlights of 2022 was my trip to the NMRA national convention in St. Louis, as well as continuing to operate and improve my Sierra Central model railroad as well as turn my hobby into something of a business. As far as what I'm looking forward to in 2023, I hope to have a fantastic time working with Miles on a new modular and portable narrow gauge project.
Wow! That's an intense facet of the hobby I've been grappling with for the last 10+ years. It's fantastically challenging, but when you get one to work, it's so satisfying.
i found a whole bunch of cool used train books this year, incl. "those portland trolley years" by john t. labbe, "trolleys and streetcars in american picture postcards" by ray applegate, and "railroading the modern way by s. kip farrington jr! lots of reading to do soon :))

They're just such a gem.
You mention loving the soldering iron but you fail to mention which model it is! Also, what kind of solder do you use?
The exact one I got was the Weller WE1010EDU Soldering Station Kit. Absolutely excellent!
“Professional fire” hehehe

I started working on brass models in 2022. Huge learning curve but well worth it in the end!
