great! after hours on youtube ,finally someone who said you can put a rocker switch on the negative wires and explain it with out a load of verbal diarrhoea for 90% of the video. thanks a million!
I can't believe I was overthinking this. It really is as simple as it seems, to temporarily complete whatever connection you stick it between. Thanks Vin Diesel!

Oh man, thank you for this. It wasn't until I saw you draw it out that I finally made the connection. My stubborn mind just couldn't see it otherwise. Cheers.
So that is why my battery pack started smoking when I wired up my fan. (building a soldering fume extractor)It was working great for about 10 seconds then black smoke. So I thought I better hit UA-cam. Thanks!! Simple and easy. I will check out your other videos.

Good explanation for newbies. I always tell people to think of a regular SPST toggle switches inputs as "In" and "Out" rather than positive and negative for this very reason.

Thats awesome, im glad. I try to not just tell people how to do stuff, but actually try and help, UNDERSTAND. Cause once something sticks, itll stick for a while. And thats the real help, in my opinion. I appreciate the feedback.
simple and to the point , best explanation I’ve seen about this. I’m trying to ADD a toggle switch to my light up emblem that I used a fuse tap to connect. Now I know all I have to do is take that ground off, connect one end of the toggle to it, and then put the other end back on the ground to complete the circuit. Thank you for answering the simple questions a “non electrician” everyday DIYer has, basically, just complete the circuit the colors don’t matter. You’re the man. Thumbs up
About to get this installed today, hardest part now will be going through the firewall and finding a spot for it that is hidden and doesn’t look cheesy… any tips for going through the firewall to the engine? (2013 c250 sport 4 door)
Each vehicle is diff as far an entry points,. But the easiest approach is not to go from car to engine bay. Instead go from engine bay into car. 2nd thing is to look for the OEM harnesses, they already go into the car and sometimes you may find that following them in the same location (rubber boot) is the easiest way.
omg THANK YOU for this super simple explanation!! Wish I had googled before connecting the switch wrong, misinterpreting the wire colours, which ended up melting the speaker wire and freaking me out! Thank you!!!

I have made a mechanical pipe light with a 2 prong toggle switch and 2 light bulbs on either side. It's a nightmare. So frustrating. I've tried everything. It's in a bus on a 12V system. Each bulb has 2 wires. So I put both commons together and both hot together. Then wired each side of the toggle to each of those. 1 side hot, 1 side common. I've tried both of the wires from the switch to hot.... then both to common. Still nothing. The light will come on and then when I switch it off and turn it back on again, it blows a fuse.
So...Only (+) or only (-) should be passing through the "switch".... as far as the fuse goes, the fuse should match the electrical draw. It couod be that ur wired correctly and the fuse is too small for the load. Another tip is to swap to LED bulbs. Because An LED wired improper just wont light up, no electrical short like a bulb Because an LED is just an electrical diode.
