Just today CBS Sunday Morning was saying, in effect, that MORE people need to become dependent on the internet. Everyone should read up on the Carrington Event of 1859.
@@nghtwtchmn129 The power grid could well be affected by such an event, but the internet is very robust and redundant and fiber cables should not be directly affected, and should be buried/undersea anyway. Someone should be working on hardening the internet, for sure.

She's european, most have to go through hoops to get a firearm, but you're absolutely correct, without a firearm(m4/ar15/ak74/ak47), you're on borrowed time till your food is taken and worse.

the same way in the US where you could have guns, you will get attacked by people that comes with guns too. So In this case having a gun doesn’t give you any advantage

@@anastrawberry8047 Have you ever faced someone who physically could wreck you in a life or death struggle? Thankfully not many of us have. Sam Colt gave everyone a fighting chance when he produced firearms. If you practice you can improve the odds you will be victorius, firearms do this, they're a wonderful deterrent as well. Our 2ND amendment is for government tyranny and nothing else, and they want to take it away so it'll be easier to slam their boots onto our necks.

What I was referring to is the scenario where a normal civilian who didn't prepare, comes to steal your food. In a country where guns are allowed he will come with a gun and you will fight with a gun...And any here in Europe they will come without a gun and you have to defend yourself without a gun as well. So my point is that in both cases I don't feel very safe because my opponent will have the same "weapon category" as me...or in my European case, maybe because they are criminals with bad intention, they got a gun "illegally" somehow, and I don't.
By the way, yes, I suffered an attack in my house years ago,(a guy with an axe) and I wish I had a gun then... at the same time if I had it, I would have gone to jail myself because that's how the law is in this country, self-defense is not contemplated, not even if they break into your own home. Just get nervous remembering it.
@@anastrawberry8047 It's sad that some humans cannot exercise their basic God given right to protect one's own life, it's sad. There's a saying here in America, 'when seconds count, the police are minutes away.' When our founders set up the constitution natural law was implied, the 2ND amendment was for government, not for criminals or mentally deranged people. I mentioned training in my first post, that's where someone could gain the edge in a gun fight, doesn't matter the age or sex, you can tip the scales in your favor. Not so with a knife or axe unless you surprised them and were very profitient with that tool and applied a good deal of force, not so with a firearm, it does all the work for you, may Gods' grace be with you.

I love David Canterbury’s “bush craft 101” it’s a really great down to earth book. The SAS Hanbook is great!
These are the only 2 I have..I need to get something on trapping and snaring,skinning and harvesting different types of animals and identifying edible plants in the wild..I also need to get a good homesteading books...I put out 4 raised bed gardens this year,I’m really hoping I can put out 8-12 next year,if at all possible

Garrett Ferrell wow that’s really cool, the book has some things but it draws the line with in depth detail about trapping and stuff. That’s something I definelty need to work on.
May I recommend The Ultimate Survival Medicine guide by Joseph Alton MD. Also Alton's antibiotics and infectious diseases.
For a good herbal medicinal guide I like The Green Pharmacy by Dr.Duke. I use it for myself and when modern medicine fails others, this will ba great source of information.

Really like this vid Lily, a good idea. Could I suggest that old cookery books are also really useful because they often contain recipes for plain meals because if there are food shortages or spikes in food delivery its always good to know how to make a meal out of nothing. I'm learning how to garden in the desert where we live now. We are at a mid range elevation so summer is HOT (106F yesterday) and in winter freezing nights for a couple of months and even snow now and then. It can be done though and I am studying while I prepare the soil I hope to plant this fall and next spring. Good suggestions - thank you.
You have a good selection of reference books there, Lilly. Another one that I like is "Bushcraft 101: A Field Guide to the Art of Wilderness Survival" by Dave Canterbury. Some of the skills shown in that book are very similar to those you have demonstrated on your channel over the years. Good to have print media resources, in case of a power outage in SHTF, where electronics may not work for a while. Stay safe out there.
the US Army Survival handbook is a good read. Also "How to Stay Alive in the Woods" by Bradford Angiers is a classic.
That was my first book on survival. 50 years ago! Bradford also lived in British Columbia.

Very valuable information, as you always show. Thank you for the references to books for many different facets of survival. I know that many of these books have probably sold out already, but hopefully more will be printed ver soon. Since I was a child, I always love the practice of bushcraft and plant identification. I have gardened to one degree or another for most of my life. I am not an expert, just an enthusiast. I see it is is time to reacquaint myself with much of the information available, and get to practicing again. Regrettably, I live in a suburban neighborhood. No room to grow enough, or practice enough; and not enough money to change it. So I must optimize the few resources that I do have. That's part of the lesson, isn't it. Thank you, dear Lilly, for all the content on your channels. Good health and happiness to you and everyone you love, including, of course, your animal. Hugs and kisses for the animals.

Great advice about the SAS as the solo option if need be. It is the survival bible! I have 3 copies.
Interesting overview of what me need to be correctly informed. Obviously, several books are familiar and are on my own bookshelves too. The books of Dick and James Strawbridge where originally written in English, and I have the English version of the book you showed, so no problem for English language speakers. This same book is also available in French - living in the Frenche speaking part of Switzerland, I remember having given a French version of this book as a present to my daughter. Several books of Sepp Holzer that I have in German also exist in English and other languages. Very interesting to read!

Loved the video, i have many books on all the same subjects too! One or two books i could recommend, The herbal handbook for home & health it has tons of info on healthy living, green cleaning recipes and natural beauty all from natural sources! Has good recipes for stain removers, laundry detergent, cough medicine and throat lozenges to mouth wash and natural toothpastes and so many more topics! Another really good set of books i have is a old set of carpentry books from the 50s, it shows how to make really nice wooden houses to take your wood cabin that extra step. And one thing i found i was missing with all my books was a good dictionary! I managed to find a dictionary with both new and old language so even those words in my 1950s books i can look up and understand.
I have many similar books including a pocket version of the SAS Survival book which I agree it's the best all around.

I'm not sure if it's available in German (but I'm sure it has been translated) and google says it's available on pdf but this book is sort of a bible of the self-sufficiency crowd here in the UK, and similar to one of the German ones you showed:
The New Complete Book of Self-Sufficiency by John Seymour has been in print for years now.
Someone mentioned online books. The U.S Army Survival Manual FM 21-76 is available free on the internet.
For English survival manuals don't forget 'No Need to Die' by Eddie McGee.
There's others but can't remember them all now.

I live in a temperate area like Lily (Pennsylvania). I have family in Arizona. I do understand what you are saying, but, fires get built the same, skinning animals is the same, different stars for navigating, many more deadly animals(!). You still need water, shelter, and food.

I just recently bought SAS for my BOB, but it was pretty big and heavy, not like the one I saw on a vid that is much smaller (and older) so I mailed it back and found a seller for the smaller one. Do you know the real difference between the two besides the size obviously?
Hello Lilly. I was wondering if you had considered sectioning off a part of the forest that already naturally grows berry bushes. A sort of wild-forest-garden. Using plain wire strands would limit deer but might also attract more rabbits. Thus you would have a resource when the berries are fruiting. You might also be able to transplant some new berry plants to this patch. Downside might be that the attraction of protein sources might also attract their predators. But you might also set up a few blinds to allow hunting from a down wind position. I don’t thin you can hunt in Austria , so this is for SHTF. Cheers from Down Under.

Two books I'd recommend are an older edition of the Boy Scout Fieldbook (not the same as the Handbook) and, for longer term survival, like after an immediate crisis has passed, The Foxfire Book.

The first prize I ever won was an old ragtag survival book when I was 10 yo. I don't recall if it was a military or scout book. Read it cover to cover several times...lost that book sometime over 7 decades. Books are most always good to have about. Best
SAS books, US Army Survival books, gardeneing & how-to books can make a big difference. Books for ocean fishing & saltwater really need to have color photographs, same for jungle survival.
Nature guides have to be local. I use this: 'National Audubon Society Field Guide to the Pacific Northwest'. I wish they would update it though and I'd love a Kindle version.
Bradford Angier - How to stay alive in the woods, Robert S. Wood - The 2 oz Backpacker & any of the Tom Brown guides. (All of the Foxfire books make interesting reading too.)
Tom Brown has some great survival books.
The Alton book is excellent

I like The Lost Ways and second edition, plus The Lost Book of Herbal remedies.
I have that Nuclear War Survival Book. It's got some great information. I have supplemented it with maps of fallout areas and nuclear power plants which could cause problems in my area if they melted down; Potassium Iodide dosing schedules and other important information. That SAS Survival book is great, too, I have the pocket version. I definitely need some gardening and wild edible plant identification books.
I read a lot of post-apocalyptic novels, too; I've read William R. Forstchen, A. American, Harley Tate... Good food-for-thought books.

My first one was a book called "how to survive in the woods" i read it cover to cover and got the sas book next. It had the same info plus more. Every other book I've gotten has always had the same info in it as the sas book. Les strouds has a few new things in it, but definitely get that sas book if you don't have it!
The McPherson book is a whole different philosophy of wilderness living. They have researched and lived like pre-industrial, even stone-age people might have lived. Love that book.
There are quite a few survival manuals available for download on your phone or tablet. They're much easier to take with you than all those hard copies.
There are also a number of solar and dynamo powered chargers available as well.
Yep. I'd think that would be more obvious. Bear sells a compact power bank/solar array, and I have an RCA tablet and a Maxwest phone, each about $50.
If youre an aussie or from a similar climate topography etc then ron edwards books are a must!!!

Dang, and I just discarded or passed-on most of my "survival" book collection. Unfortunately, life brings you things that you may or may not have space to accommodate. I certainly ran into a conundrum with having space for my book collection and had to severely reduce it or start sleeping elsewhere. I had mixed feelings about this because I really enjoy knowledge on a number of subjects and perusing books and keeping them as references. We've developed other interests over the years, as most people do, and needed space for things related to those interests. So, somebody else is enjoying much of my book collection now, including great survival books going back many decades or even a hundred years. I take some comfort in realizing that quite a few of those books I still have in electronic form, and if that fails, I'm left with my (for now at least) good old brain. One book that I still cringe over letting go many years ago is "Jackknife Cookery". Even if you can find a copy (extremely difficult if not impossible), it'll set you back over $100. And finally, quite a few years back I bought a pocket version of that SAS book. You kinda need one of those pocket magnifying cards to read it, but I believe it has most of the same info as your big book. Many thanks.
Studying cookbooks from before the era of electricity help, also. (Fanny Farmer's, The Boston School of Cooking; Hannah Glass, The Art of Cookery; etc.) I study colonial cooking, prairie cooking, native American ways, and Viking cooking and living.
What about the Boy Scout handbook? It's got first aid, camping, hiking, knots, cooking.

Hand to hand combat and make shift weapons training really wouldn't be a bad idea. You want to be able to defend yourself and those you love. It's crazy crazy times.
I know it sounds cowardly and counterintuitive but when it comes to large gangs etc, sometimes your best bet is to hide from them. Such folk will rely on brute force more than general survival skills.
You can get free downloads of U.S. Army manuals online. Look for the FM’s (Field Manuals) and also look for field expedient methods. They’re worth their weight in gold.

I have a few ideas what could be grown on a balcony, but also indoors and even in absence of much light, but I do think that you'd be better suited for this topic...
I would like to see that too. BTW 'Gardening When It Counts: Growing Food in Hard Times' is excellent for survival gardening. Not for balcony's though!
