During this webinar, we were joined by hand lettering artist Ian Barnard, who showed us how to use one of his most useful and best-selling products, The Grid Builder, to create stunning lettering layouts. With this set of 35 individual and flexible grid shapes, Ian led us through how to letter "The Design Cuts Community Rocks" from start to finish.

Excellent info, can't wait to get this! Is there a product that includes flourishes and design elements that would work well with the lettering?
Hey there, thanks for commenting! The great news is that we have a huge collection of fonts that are perfect for lettering projects, however it would depend on what design software you are working in. This particular tutorial was created using Procreate to showcase how you can use the Grid Builder to help with hand-lettering, however unfortunately Procreate does not support Open Type font features (such as flourishes and other stylistic alternates). If you are at all unsure which resources will work best with your preferred design software, please do not hesitate to get in touch and we will be happy to help point you in the right direction of products that we feel may be a perfect fit :).

I just want to type letters instead of handwrite them. Is this possible?
As the Grid Builder is mainly intended for hand-drawn lettering, Ian, the designer has not included instructions for working with this one using typed text. However, to use this one with typed text, you can transform your text into a smart layer and use the grids to organise your layout, and should help you manipulate your text easier, and more creatively than simply adjusting the text box.
Just in case you are unsure how to turn your text into smart objects, I have popped in a link to a tutorial below that should be able to help further on this :)
