It's 100% correct actually. It cannot chain from mobs it pierces. Correct, because it needs to consume pierce(s) first. You have +1 pierce. You have +1 chain. Thank you so much! Your videos on using and building Spark have answered most of the questions I struggled to find on Google. I've been wondering lately if I could deal more damage by using Pierce to pierce through enemies and return. It's great to watch this video right now. Being able to hit multiple targets at once and freeze them quickly makes me feel much safer.
I mean a lot of people play without pierce at all and they are fine with the highest tiers of maps. From this video I didn’t really understand why I should use it.
Have exact same feeling, I have 1300DPS on lv 35, every boss or elita is dying withing seconds, If i use that spell cloud which I dont remeber name of, damage goes to almost 2K wit just spark, +fire wall + orb and boom, anything is melted instatnly.
same i play with chain and fork for clearing no pierce for the time being as i dont see the necessity of doing so, maybe in the future yeah. But i also saw a few of my friend who plays them without chain and fork but instead playing / scaling projectile speed with pierce, i mean theres more than 10 ways on how you play spark.
They’re definitely impactful, but if you’re doing 100k+ dps, it certainly doesn’t matter… I would assume this video is for people who don’t have insane gear
As an aside, can anyone else confirm that Eldritch Battery doesn't scale the energy shield you allocate on your tree (seems like a bug)? Fiddling with my tree and none of this impacts my mana conversion, so are all of those nodes wasted or ? Dependable Ward, Heavy Buffer, Pure Energy, Rapid Recharge, all seem to not impact the energy shield as mana conversion.
Eldritch battery only scales with ES from equipment. ES + to maximum ES % increased ES If you use ghostwrite you can still maintain ES through it's % Life converted to ES. This ES will scale with passive tree nodes.
Im not shure i get it right, spark can hit enemy every 0,66s and with 90-100% pierce chance (anoint + 2 jewels) and 100% chain its posible to hit with same projectile 3 times. Than how much skill effect duration/ projectile speed we need to make it efective?
Why are you avoiding chance to shock in your tree? Isn't that like...SUPER important? Can you explain in a video how this chance actually works? In my mercenary for instance I noticed that dropping some chance in favor of more raw damage resulted in MORE shocks overall. It's really strange and some insight would be appreciated. Also, what's your opinion on Arc? I used it from day 1, before there were any guides and it carried me until like T5 maps.
Aliment threshold is based on enemies max hp and your damage on them. If your raw damage is low then the base chance is low. Shock chance is multiplier to that base. Many end-game streamer with high-end gear mostly guaranteed shocked on every hits because spark is hitting so fast so often and the damage is so high. They go for shock magnitude for more damage while can ignore shock chance in skill tree.
Well, fire and cold are dogshit rn - so if they nerf spark, which is our currently only good option... I guess we'll all be playing cast on minion death comet, lmao
Why would they Nerf spark when it's archmage that scales it that high with archmage spark is 100k without it'snot even 10k Spark won't get nerfed it's not that op in my opinion it's the other things that make it op
Not sure I subscribe to the mentality that spark requires a nerf. Other skills require a buff. Currently, spark & lightning warp/conduit are our only truly viable late game options for Sorceresses - nerfing spark without changing other mechanics means we'll either all end up zooming througn maps with warp/conduit or we'll end up returning to cast on X comet.
i dont agree with the idea that a nerf means something is not not worth playing. i feel like the sentiment in general from the poe playerbase is that nerf = drop the skill. skills can be tuned in a way where they are still very powerful lol. spark has been nerfed for 3 years running in poe 1 and i still destroy all content with my spark builds in that game.
maybe not a nerf, but also yes, look at all the top builds, monk/ranger/witch/sorc all use lightning + something, ice/fire works until early/mid end game, then just not fast enuf to keep up with packs. everyone that had a ice/fire build wks ago, is now rocking lightning cause its just so OP... they'll nerf it cause its really the only build type being used.. as far as war idk what they do..cause hardly see anyone doing melee builds. lol
@@anime.princess Perhaps. It's worth noting that a vast majority of players ain't running around with 100+ div builds and 100k+ unbuffed tooltips - I personally know 5 guys who either rerolled or just stopped playing after comet got nerfed to the ground.. even though we've found a way to make it even more stupid than it was on a freeze setup. Nerfs more often than not do not affect the top end players the way they do affect low to mid end players, for a vast majority of players nerfing spark dps by lets say, half, means the build no longer is viable - even though it wouldn't affect the high end players in a noticeable way.
I do think that spark might take QoL nerfs - in PoE 1 this kind of spark speed requires quite a lot of investment, but in poe 2 you click one wheel on tree and put in one support (that couldn't be a good damage support anyway) and you have an insane amount of proj speed. Spark is this weird skill where it's actually pretty bad until you scale it because all it does is offer coverage, then when you scale it it's the best skill in the game because you don't have to setup any conditions or aim or anything to kill with it, so itll probably remain played until it's genuinely unscalable, if nerfed.
I noticed you have Eldritch battery but still take a lot of extra max energy shield and recharge, thought you only got to keep energy shield from gear when you activated EB? am i missing something? lol
i dont use pierce should i be using it? i like to use the other support gems. it seems like i hit enemies fine... i dont have issues with hitting all the enemies...
Commenting cuase I wanna know the reason as well just got a +2 focus and my new focus didnt have +55% mana regen like my old one which was not a good combo lol. Hadda reconfigure like 6 passive points to fix my my mana regen and it's still not as good but it's enough and it's worth it cause more dps but since I'm mom I really like full sustaining my mana so I don't get one hit when I'm tryna dps bosses
Also a huge tip idk what ascendacy setup your using but use elemental storms and put font of mana and persistence on it and you pretty much get a free 40% mana regen with i would say like 85% up time with a 16% critical hit chance. Each storm lasts for 10 seconds with persistence so just standing near those will give you a huge mana sustain boost
Im wondering how shock actually works as a mechanic, if you have 100% chock on your weapon, do you need any points in it? As the game doesn’t explain the chock buff build up
@@anime.princess I have branching Bolts, but it's not showing any chain count on the Spark skill... I see chain on the Orb of storms skill so i figured it would be mentioned in the breakout.
Does every act of piercing "consume" 100% pierce chance? So if my projectile has 160% pierce, then it will always pierce the first target, and it will pierce the second 60% of the time? And 90% pierce means it will never pierce a second target?
If you have a chain proc but there's no other monster around, the projectile will disappear? If yes then it's a stat only for mapping? (most of the game anyway lol)
Based on the text, I definitely thought it couldn't chain if it pierced. I actually dropped my pierce annoint after I picked up chain.. Thank you so much for the explanation, great vid!
So I tried the pierce attunement out and I think it was a noticeable improvement, but losing Icebreaker was noticeable. I am not sure how to deal freeze with just a single charm. Icebreaker makes freeze not an issue. Likely because I can not one shot everything before it can get a shot off.
So i was wondering this, does pierce make your single target dps inherently higher then? Since one spark could hit a boss then pierce bounce off the wall and hit the boss again? Also is the lightning rod annoint still a massive dps increase? Even if i use crit to proc elemental storms i only have like 17% crit hit chance on my spark rn
I anointed my amulet for %50 pierce and am using jewels to cover the rest of my pierce. Guess I should drop the jewels and pick up branching bolts then see how it goes.
@@anime.princess I see, so it is once per cast. If I cast 3 times in a second, there are 3 "casts" of sparks flying around. They will each hit 1.5 times per second (0.66/s). It does not matter which particular projectile hits, right? The Sparks will keep bouncing for 3s (duration of a spark), so total I should get 1.5*3*3=13.5 hits from those 3 Spark casts. Just confirming the math. This means that there is a saturation point for number of projectiles/forks/pierces. If 1.5 projectiles per second can hit a target, there is no point in scaling number of projectiles/pierces/forks. Because we already hit the ceiling of possible Spark damage here. THis is for a single target (boss). For multiple targets it scales still. Thanks for the explanation btw, none of this is at all obvious or stated in tooltips.
Good info, but honestly think Pierce isn't that good. Especially after picking up that chain node. The way you're explaining pierce, even with chain and no pierce, you still offscreen mobs very easily. I can't see pierce actually being good unless they make spark itself so weak that you would actually need the projectiles to pierce to take care of a mob pack. Personally doing the hardest maps (T18) doing massive breachs with simply chain, and are annihilating mobs as they spawn. No dream fragments, no astramantis, no damage dealing neck, and with icebreaker annoint (so no dps annoint). Now, if pierce can pierce a boss, and re-hit that boss (not sure if it can), then I think you may have something. But yeah, my opinion is if you're using chain (you should, it's 4 skill points), pierce is useless. Lightning rod annoint (damage) or icebreaker (the only thing that can kill us is being frozen, so if you don't have dream fragments) are the best annoints
Agreed. I used to run Piercing Shot on annoint until I started using the chain node. Suddenly the pierce didn't even matter at all. Took it out and replaced it with Frazzled/Icebreaker and map clear is unaffected.

Please stop referring to this as "abusing", it's how the mechanics works.
Other than that, good info.
spark is not op ;D archmage is 5k mana and you get 400% more dmg
100 mana = 8% dmg.. so 5.000/100=50 50x8 = 400 % more damage..
the build currently uses archmage, you're arguing semantics at this point
You successfully did a terrible job of explaining this. Nothing about it is "obvious"
when you have partial pierce you are blowing up a pack in front of you and a pack offscreen at the same time. this is explained if you listen to the video contents.
Brain dead is right
Appreciate it
Nooooo dont nerf it😢 ggg
best spark build is from mbxtreme :D
lol best and mbx only go together if you buy divines , mbx is the height of trash builds that need god gear to function.
