Just found you and just subscribed! It's hard to find someone in south Texas showing us what works out here! Hello from San Antonio. Ty for making these videos!
I’ve been using orange oil in my garden beds for several years and have never seen damage to any of my plants. I add a good squirt of Dawn to the mixture.
Fellow Texan here. Elderly mother. A caring person with Jesus in my heart. Trying to get some ants out of my veggie garden area. Shame on you for upsetting me to no end for a moment there with the 'boiling water' stunt. I figure it was just a stunt for educational purposes, since you appear to be okay, and you wouldn't be --- so you are forgiven and thanked after all. I was just fixin' to do the boiling water again, but since I have some balance issues, and since I saw you here, I ain't doin' that. Next time somebody drives me to town, I'll get some orange oil. Seems like the safest thing I came across so far today, while already looking for something easier than boiling water. I have some other household items on hand for remedies, but I have concerns about trying them and I don't have any sugar anyway for one of them.
Oh man, that actually made me subscribe to your channel!!! I did have to watch a second time to be sure, but since you weren't screaming bloody murder, I figured it was a stunt. I'm ordering some orange oil right after this!! Keep up the antics!! 😆
Great ideas, I’ve tried them, both work but orange oil is simplest and efficient, what is best to use as emulsifier? I’ve used dawn dish washing soap not sure if it’s best.
HA - I was going to suggest that anyone that manages to splash orange oil in their eyes should not be dealing with large containers of boiling water - HA
I did the boiling water. I boiled and dumped a few kettle full on a hive. Next, morning the ground around the nest was full of dead red ants. They carried out all the dead ants from the next and took them outside. Then, it was business as usual within the nest. Didn't really work.
I used and OrangeOil + Mollasses mixture to treat my ants (5 gallon, 10oz and 5oz). One large ant pile swallowed 3 gallons no problem. Three days later I am seeing new tiny mounds pop up with some activity. Maybe I didn't get all the queens.
What are the odds that the ants would've vacated the mound if you had created a volcano with your stick and poured a gallon of just water right into it? Especially if you did a couple of applications like you said you sometimes do. Unless you get the queen, they're going to move one way or another if they think they chose a bad spot (where they're in a walking path, or a cart/wheel path, or the receiving end of a garden hose shoved down into the hole for 5 minutes, 2-3x a day, over a couple of days. I don't know the answer but I'd like to see you re-do the experiment with the same stick prodding, but just regular water, flooding the mound a few times in a day. Then come back & do it the next day, if needed.
Omg thank God. When I saw that I panicked like oh sh*t! Now because of that, No NO hot water for me lol Cuz that is something I would do, trip and fall and burn myself. Trying the orange oil!
I have not seen any lasting effects on the soil. After it gets diluted by watering or rain fall I believe it is safe to plant in. That being said, always use sparingly close to plants.
Thank you. I have been spreading the expensive fire any killer and they look like they are on kryptonite! I think they are stronger than ever now. I hope this orange oil will work on these beasts.
You SCARED me with that stunt -- but made your point well, haha.

Awesome. Yes, there are not many Texas garden channels.
I’ve been using orange oil in my garden beds for several years and have never seen damage to any of my plants. I add a good squirt of Dawn to the mixture.
That was an awful thing to do! I screamed! My husband thought I'd seen someone in the house.
For sure! To fall with a pot of boiling water got a Yelp!
Just found your channel, really like the videos. I'm up here in North Texas/DFW area. Your boiling water falldown made me jump lol!
Well thanks.
I use a mix of orange oil, need oil and peppermint Castile soap. Works great!
I know two of those materials but I don't know what need oil is.
Please educate me.
the trip stunt was incredible. You should have done the next scene all wrapped up like a mummy. Off to score some orange oil later this morning.
Lol I’ll have to up my stunt man budget
Orange oil will kill blueberries. You measure like I do. I will try stick idea. East Texas
Awesome video. You definitely had me when you fell holding that big hot water bucket.
Great tip, I did not know about using orange oil. Very helpful video.
This video helped a lot thank you and hello from San Antonio as well 😊
You crack me up how you are very purposefully slamming stuff down!

The orange oil really kills them fast. I hope you are able to get some soon.
hahahah that last part had me shook! saw you in shorts and flip flops and said to myself..this aint gonna end well...

Awesome! Yeah that would have made me scream lol
I howled when you came back from that fall 😂

There is no need for an emulsifier. For some reason, that myth got spread and now everyone thinks dish soap is a good idea. It’s just poison.

Thanks for the vid. I hoped there was an easy to do this and you showed me how.
Can you post a link to the oil or where to get it and the name, please?
Link is now in description.
I was like ... 😱 😱

Yes orange oil is the best. How much is dosage that you added
I’m guessing I do about one ounce per half gallon. If you don’t see dead ants after a minute or so, just make it stronger and try again.
Orange oil is also good on flies and other insects.
Hello. I'm on the Ms Coast. Are you still using this method? I'd like to try it. Ants like the corners of my raised beds☹️.
Yes, this is the only thing I use for ants. It works great.
Danke
Great video! Not only useful but made me laugh too 😂

What is the molasses used for?
@@MyTexasYard I believe the mollassas keeps ants from returning.
@@richardkalmwater5996 a second treatment the next day or two would probably be a good idea if it’s a really large mound.
But Z (Tinkles Marion) in Antz, he's an adorable orange ant. We want to keep him safe.

That sounds like way too much work.
I like the orange oil because its fast, easy, and effective.
Will this work on harvester ants?
I would think it would work on any ant.
I was shocked and screamed!!!
Thanks so much!! Ordered my Orange oil from amazon.
What about boil water then add oil
That flipped me out. But that was fake accident, right?
Right...?
Lol yes.
Omg thank God. When I saw that I panicked like oh sh*t! Now because of that, No NO hot water for me lol Cuz that is something I would do, trip and fall and burn myself. Trying the orange oil!
Are you able to plant in that soil after the treatment?
I have not seen any lasting effects on the soil. After it gets diluted by watering or rain fall I believe it is safe to plant in. That being said, always use sparingly close to plants.
Thank you. I have been spreading the expensive fire any killer and they look like they are on kryptonite! I think they are stronger than ever now. I hope this orange oil will work on these beasts.
Lol. I have had 100% success using orange oil. It may take a follow up treatment the next day or two, but it has always worked for me.
Good trick but you fail by using one rag only and leaving the other hand bare and no steam coming out of the pot.
But the fall look real.
Orange oil, good to know! 👍🏼
It looked like you poured that water all over yourself. Are you ok? You seemed fine, but that looked real bad.
Society is doomed
I have 5 mounds around my house
I hope you are alright 😮
Perfectly fine :)
Omigosh! Were you badly hurt? 😮😢
The pot was empty;)
I'm in the hospital after having a heart attack and you just almost gave me another one with your stupid boiling water trick
Oops!
