Definitely not the Baku.
I notice how the carrier was bobbing with the waves, and the Mig took off during an upward movement of that motion, which will have increased the initial upward force dramatically, and I wonder that was deliberate.
A MiG-29 Fulcrum, first introduced in 1983, the Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29 Fulcrum has two Klimov RD-33 engines capable of producing 36,600 pounds of thrust giving the this 2,000 lbs aircraft a top speed of 1,520 miles per hour and having a range of 888.6 miles.

The MiG-29 has a Phazotron RLPK-29 radar fire control system which includes the N019 Sapfir 29 look-down/shoot-down coherent pulse-Doppler radar and the Ts100.02-02 digital computer which has a Search range of 70 km, a tracking range 35 km, and can track up to 10 targets, and engage up to 2 targets.
That, is a designed standard takeoff. There is nothing short, or long.
Update comments:
My view:- if the length of runway required for a take off is to be measured, there should not be any assistance made for the aircraft concerned.
The clip shows that the main landing gears of the MiG have stoppers raised up to the second the jets are in full throttle with their afterburners on.
When the stoppers dropped, the MiG dashes towards a ski-jump ramp to raise it's angle of attack.
If any short or long is to be ascribed to the takeoff, it can only refer to the designed mechanism and not the aircraft.
The MiG takeoff cannot be any longer or shorter.
Nothing more from me, case closed.

Migs are built like a brick wall ... That is sheer power on takeoff. Wow!
Without a catapult, its takeoff weight is severely restricted. It can't carry a full load of fuel and bombs.
Flankers take off fully loaded all the time.
I don't see any load on that plane. I don't believe that they take off fully loaded. A catapult launch system is needed to take off fully loaded, and neither the Russians nor the Chinese have it. I hear that the Chinese may be working on the new EMALS (Electro Magnetic Aircraft Launch System) which the US Navy is also developing. The EMALS will be better than the steam catapults (cheaper, safer, more flexible) but right now the US system is TOO POWERFUL, over stressing the aircraft. Refinements are needed, so it is almost two years from operational status. The British will use EMALS on their second new carrier; the first carrier, the Queen Elizabeth, will use the F-35B STOVL (Marine) version of the F-35, which has short takeoff capability designed into the aircraft. The MiGs do not have short takeoff built into them -- a short takeoff version was dropped from production. The EMALS will probably be sold to India for their future carriers, when it is fully developed.
Bruce Gordon Than you're blind, it's got AA clearly seen on the left wing.
Nick Day - Yes, there is a small missile under the left wing. That's not much of a load. No external fuel tanks or bombs. According to Wikipedia, the MiG-29K is designed to defend the fleet, not to penetrate or attack ground targets. It can't take off with bombs and fuel tanks without a catapult. The more I learn about catapults, they are very big and very expensive. Britain's next carrier, the Queen Elizabeth, would have been too expensive with catapults. By using the F-35B STOVL aircraft, they don't need catapults. The Russians don't have any such STOVL in their inventory or planned. So, Nick, that's a very light weapon load intended for fleet defense only.
It's correct, it's not an opinion, these are facts. Payload suffers for the lack of catapults.
I'm Russian, so I'm not being political here, these are just plain facts - no other country comes anywhere close to American aircraft carrier fleet capabilities.
Mig-29K pulls of a normal carrier launch. I'm glad I didn't miss it 🤣

Seeing the tail - elevators constantly move up and down before take off reminds me of how kittens and cats do those paw twitches before pouncing
Now you just need a tugboat to drag the ship around....
no catapult, just raw power :)zooooom!
...like all aircraft carrier planes.
And this is his weakness. Due to the lack of a catapult on Kuznetsov, only aircrafts with a thrust-weight ratio greater than 1 can be used. This limits the amount of fuel and weapons
Yea now try it with a payload.
@@NatanelYaHu you are now better than any Russians Engineering. Congratulations!
@@andreylarin6461 Russians don't really play with thrust-weight < 1 toys anyway so...
A 10 second video jam-packed into a minute and 48 seconds.
But the deck assistant was my favorite part!
Such a beautiful aircraft.
You cant really compare Russian carrier operations with USA carrier ops as their job is fundamentally different. In the USA the carrier is the main tool to project power. In the Russian navy the carrier is the enabler to project power by defending the fleet against threats.
damn those forum threads,so many people killed by them
Yeah gotta watch out for those threads
metric threads are the absolute worst
The US does that, lol. The F-14 was made with the single role of being a carrier borne fleet defender :)
The difference here is that Russia doesn't need a carrier so they don't really care. Their only carrier is loaded full of weapons to be still useful, because they don't need the force projection it provides: Russia has landing strips everywhere from Europe's doorstep to Asia, and they don't need to project their power to the US.
russia doesn't even really have a functioning carrier, the one they have had to be followed at all times by ocean tugs in the event of the inevitable breakdown. russian military power is an oxymoron in itself.
Rip headphone users
ok
Agusto what you say i can't hear you
i loved it
Agusto shit hahaha
Agusto not really
USMC Pilot: okay, checks complete, weather favorable, firefighters on standby, ready, go!
Russian pilot: Серега, сколько там метров палубы? Нормально, поехали!
Such an impressive aircraft. Game changer.
Catapults: *Am i A jOkE tO yOu?*
Runway: *aM i?*
Nah it’s neither. Skater gang bruh.
Because catapults are totally useless
😂😂😂😂 that was too funny
@shadowbonnie 647 they allow aircraft to take off with greater payloads
@Rage Quit I was using sarcasm
LOL
If you notice, the pilot timed it perfectly to lift off right as the carrier was at the peak of a wave
I think someone else was controlling the chocks (or whatever they are called I dunno) Im not an expert though.
@@doso4782 Ya, I guess that's what I meant, that the launch was timed perfectly.
Timing takeoff to the waves goes back to before WWII. Escort carriers in high sea states especially.
I was fascinated by the chocks holding back the aircraft even as the engines were throttled up.
Must have damn strong wheel struts to do that…..
American carriers have tons of staff all doing elaborately worked out hand signals. Russian carrier has one guy going 'take off, or dont, who cares'
Just made it with full afterburner and carrier pointing into the wind. The limitations of ramp based non catapult launches are that the aircraft cannot carrier a full fuel and weapons load on takeoff. This dramatically limits combat radius and force projection that the carrier is primarily designed for. Consequently the carrier must go deeper into the combat zone and place itself at considerable risk if it's aircraft are to be effective. This is a significant tactical limitation of this carrier design😐
Actually these carriers aren't built for power projection. Those aircraft are mainly for fleet defence and follow a different doctrine to that of the US. Even the UK learnt this the hard way around in the Falklands War with the Hermes being a desperate defence against Argentine air attacks. But you're still right in a way. Even the staunchest supporters of non catapult carriers- Russia, China, and India have switched to CATOBAR in all their future and upcoming carrier projects and the rest like the UK and Italy have switched to using the STOVL F-35B to compensate for a smaller deck size.
Nice points!
I think that Russia made a carrier only for propaganda, it's not really needed due to its geography.
A2A refueling will mitigate that
Gotta love it when Americans assume the only war you need to prepare for is bombing a tent in the middle east
*I wish he didnt zoom in right after take off so I could see how fast it was climbing. Instead of looking at a stationary mig*
