Machine Guns accuracy was not the primary function when designed . It’s “Volume Of Fire” , not accuracy . The GAU System was made to deliver Target Saturation, Not Pin- Point Accuracy . The Bushmaster 30MM delivers excellent accuracy. Those are used in a newer variant of the AC130G Specter . Designed to shoot open steel doors for Delta .
As some one who has flew the A-10 (A-164 Wipeout) for over 100 hours, trying to line up a strafing or rocket run is not easy since you loose altitude really quickly.
@@KallenVM Any reason they dont use some kind of thermal like FLIR for targeting? Like the apache has a flir that has super long range at a decent frame rate so it seems like using one for a gun run would be possible
@@debbidonosenshi I'm guessing an A.I is flying the plane or just didn't use the Tpod. Thermals would work really well if you were high up, but that close to a Phalanx would need a quick target and lase so that once you come back for a gun run, your radar and screen will show you where it is with a small circle.
I was a FC in the Navy, 4 A-10s wouldn't even be a challenge for a Phalanx. It's an autonomous closed loop system that does threat assesment, assigns priorities and engages in under .5 seconds at 4000 rpm. It could shoot the planes and their missiles in under 4 seconds. No human can match cold blooded robotic weapons like it. Fact
Never happen, I was a Phalanx operator and tech FC. It tracks target and projetiles autonomously in sub miliseconds a 100 times faster than human reaction. It easily tracks and shoots missiles at mach 3. If it flies, it dies was our motto.
