Totally agreed! I've always been partial to the color scheme, snowy location, and neat set designs and play features. I got set 6879 when I was 4 and have loved the sub-theme ever since.
@@BrickingUpBrad Yes, well, no, well, yes, well, I don't know; both are in my most beloved childhood themes and have large representations in my collection!
I love the new CMF Figure. I bought a few of the Chinese New Year ones too. Found a few Helmets from the originals so I’m building a few customs. Was hoping Lego would do a new Ice Planet set , or remark an old set like they did with other sets.
@@BrickingUpBrad yeah, my dad built a special drawer that fit under my bed, and I had the ice Base in one end and The blacktron Base in the other. It was one part diorama one part playset. My pride and Joy as a kid.
5:52 fan fact those are not Belville skis rather they are Technic as they were introduced in 1986 in 4 Arctic Technic sets, in Belville they 1st appeared in 2002 (year not the planet :) ) and those are called Technic, Figure Accessory Ski on the Bricklink.
I have a lot of nostalgia for this theme as it was my introduction into Lego Space. I had most of the smaller ones growing up and I was very happy to see a modern take on what I think was an iconic design.😃
So, the Snow Man Costume CMF from a few sets back has a white head with a face print on it, looking like the guy is wearing a tight white hood or thermal cap. I'm tempted to use that for any spare Ice Planet Explorer CMF figures I get to fill out.
I’ve always found it weird that they called it Ice Planet 2002 when it came out in the 90’s. When I 1st heard of the theme I thought it came out in 2002. None of the other space sub themes like Spyrius, Space Police, Insectoids, or Explorians have a year attached to them. Why didn’t they just call it Ice Planet? Anyways, I love the new CMF figure.
I think it may not have been a year but a number associated with something else. I mean the cmf space miner says krysto 2002 in its bio so it could mean that the number is associated with the planet.
I love that city crook randomly having come over to snag some cool skis for himself. Pretty bold to pull of that stunt, despite lacking both special equipment and special thermal protection. ua-cam.com/video/ZMDoU_bd0vs/v-deo.html
Another great video and it's especially good when the late 80's & 90's was my Lego dark times so I really appreciate being able to learn about a Lego theme I'm not too familiar with. Ice Planet 2002 looks like a fantastic theme and it seems Lego in the early 90's were looking to create a Space Faction that operates on a planet with an atmosphere rather than a planet devoid of one as they're typically featured. Recently I discovered this wasn't Lego's first attempt as they developed Seatron but decided not to bring to market, fortunately though we got Ice Planet instead and hopefully with the recent Ice Planet minifig include in the latest CMF series we can a get a new reimagined set. Fantastic video and looking forward to seeing the next faction/subtheme from Space or Castle get this same treatment in the future😊👍🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I picked up a couple of the new CMF Ice Planet Explorers. They might be the best looking fig in series 26! Now I'm interested in getting the older figs and the ones from the other sets you mentioned to populate my space themed stuff. I just this minute thought that they might look cool in the same display with some of the SW Hoth rebels 🤔. As always, great overview! Thanks!
Glad you liked the video! Two of the figures are very cheap but doctor kelvin is an expensive minifigure because she only came in the two largest sets. No mention about how the Deep Freeze Defender pilot pods connect to the front of the 2 separated back sections to make 2 medium-sized ships?!? Atlanta Brick Co. also missed this in their review of the theme. It is a defining feature of the set and sub-theme, in my opinion.
@@BrickingUpBrad No problem, I just find it disappointing that this does not get mentioned, as it is a critical aspect of an amazing set. At least you presented the set as one of the best, rather than the general opinion of dislike, at least by one individual, on the ABC theme review. The set is slightly blocky in appearance, but that is due to the incorporation of common designed connections to allow for interchangeability of the sections to make different ship configurations and add significant play value. @@BrickingUpBrad As Ice Planet 2002 could be located beneath an asteroid belt that completely blocks the sun, it might be a good idea to put up the station on an outer celestial body to pick up sun rays from the solar panels, and relay basic energy impulses to the rudimentary bases down on the unfriendly environment down at the main planet... or something to that extent...

Lego was being very optimistic if they were thinking we'd be traveling across the galaxy by 2002 from 1993.
Im not really surprised Lego is this optimistic. There a toy company
Its not a year, more of a number that was chosen. the planet the Ice Planet team was on was called Krysto 2002.
I’m thinking the same thing!
If I recall, even in the early 90s, people were assuming we’d be Jetsons-style futuristic by the year 2000.
