I started playin' the harp in 1970. I had just graduated high school with no money to further my education I knew the draft would be hot on my tall. Grabbed some clothes and a sleepingbag my harp and set out hitch hiking across America. I wanted to see this land I was about to possibly sacrafice my life for. I would sit along side the road against mybackpack and practice my harp untila ride came along.. I was blowin' on my harp and the first car that came by stopped. He said I don't usually pick people up but I saw you playing the harmonica and I love the harmonic. It was unfortnate for this guy that I couldn't plat to well, but I found out to get rides faster pull that Harp and start wailing and dancing around the back pack. I was lucky on that trip because I met a lot of great people and avoided the draft for over a year and when I did enlist to get Army photo school at Ft. Monmouth NJ the war in Vietnam was ending and I was sent to West Berlin.
I bet that time of your life is something you carry with you everyday. On top of that, you had an awesome chance of truly experiencing for the first time what freedom felt like. Then going overseas and seeing what communism and oppression can do. Thanks for sharing

Let me start out with I am sorry for the long dissertation. I'm an old Diemaker from Detroit, got ended up in Flint. I worked the second shift and would hang out in the local bars in Fenton, Mi, after work. Well back in in the early 90's, there were three bars to go too. Mo' Doggies, Blaney's, and the Lake View, (we called it the snake view cause of the women that'd be there) Any way's, it was the Lake View I had the Blessing of God to hear a guy named Bill, who was invited on stage to play the mouth harp. Well, he needed help, ya see he had a bum leg, it was wooden, but didn't work to good. His wife would help him up to the stage and there would be a chair for him. He'd take his Harmonica out of his cigar box, where the others were, and wait for the band, depending on what they were going to play, (he had no idea), sometimes he would switch harmonica's. I had NEVER in my life heard such beauty from a mouth hard, up close and very personal. I gave him the nickname, "Bill the Cat", after the cartoon. and like the cartoon he died. I seen his wife in the local grocery store sometime ago and she told me Bill had passed. I am very blessed to have heard such feeling from a person through such a simple instrument. I have never heard a mouth harp artist that could hold a candle to Bill. God Bless you Bill and hold you near! Music, music, from their mouth to your ear. I am Blessed with that memory. Thank You Bill. And Thank You Juzzie, for the memory.
I have a " Hohner harp "-collection . A black leather box , inside coated /cushioned with red velvet. It contains 12 harps of all... er, well not all . But an equipment of the most usual melody keys. From " C / D / E / F / G / H....-major / ....A / D / E -minor, there are twelve harmonicas all together. I started playing the harp when I was still a child and enjoyed playing very much. I drove my mom to desperation. whenever I played but never...I cared about that. My dad encouraged me to continue as he played an instrument himself, a so called " wait-pipe " also known as "shawn". I have improved my skills in the meantime, but I envy this guy here in this video for his variety and virtuosity. He does an excellent job. Once upon a time I have tried to blow my harpes like he does, but next day my lips got swollen ....I looked in the mirror and saw a " widemouth-frog" :-) I think it takes time and a hard constant training to reach such an amazing level. One can do it with discipline and ambition. And some good harps- that's actually all you need. But no, that's not everything....what else ?
