+GoPro Thanks! Kinda bummed though. We discovered a simple solution to the spinning issues that same night! And we were recording at 30 FPS only..forgot to change the settings. Maybe we'll try it again later.
Your barrel is not smooth , therefore it will never land in the same place as before because it is unpredictable , you guys should print out a rifled barrel and it will shoot faster and more accurate.Well done guys! :)
Somebody I know built a T-shirt cannon exactly like this for a science club project. He had big problems with the tank and the valve leaking air. I see you've solved those problems quite nicely. This is the best one I've seen. Great job!
To reduce the spinning, would adding some weight in the bottom side of the camera housing help? Maybe then if shot from a 45 degree angle the spinning in the flght path could be minimized. Naaahh nevermind bad idea. It will still spin around...
I know the song in this video might be available under who-knows-what kind of dubious license agreement, but all I can think of is DigitalRevTV now since I heard that background song first over that channel.
They should strap a Superman action figure on it and have a GoPro that would be really cool too! It also would be cool if they have his arms move when the thing would spiral
With a few modifications, you can make a potato gun. Instead of air, you can use hair spray (the chamber would probably have to be a lot smaller) and add a piezo-electric trigger.
Hi David and Ryan! Here's an idea: 3D print the projectile with glow in the dark filament and instead of a GoPro you could fill the space with a 0 G trigger mechanism that shoots several flashes embedded around the projectile. If you film it at night with long exposure camera setting, it would be an awesome way to actually see how different shooting angles change the trajectory of the projectiles as well as its maximum height. :D
Very Neat - Wish You could Tweak the Fins , so it wouldn't Spin or Spin very slowly .. Still 2 Thumbs Up ! Especially the Catch & Musical Timing . . . Ha Haa Nice . .
Such important work for mankind. Your ability to use the bicycle pump and shoot that into the air is almost at genius level. Most parents brag their children became doctors, lawyers, surgeons or ceo's of great companies. Your parents can brag that you've discoved a way to shoot something in the air and then catch it. Sort of like your grandparents did with small plastic army men and parachutes when they were kids. Your success rates you right up there with: elected officials, telemarketing, use car salesmen or even becoming youtube aficionados with a cult following over 500 likes! Please Please tell me your parents personally funded your education and no tax dollars were used.
Nice work, boys! Keep it up! #GoPro

+Eclectical Engineering i reaaally want to see an image stabilised version of this shot now.
+Eclectical Engineering Yeah, try straightening the spinning footage using Premeire, would be a "Baseball" view flying toward an outfielder!
+Eclectical Engineering how do you fix the spinning issue?
+k4zuki Stick a weight on the bottom side (within the projectile)!
Great! This was fun... I have a project coming up involving an air cannon as well... :)
Giaco Whatever sup dude
cool idea... now phase 2, make it whistle and the deploy a parachute at max altitude. ;~D
you could incorporate an altimeter and deploy the shoot at a specific height on the descent

Hey, they're from San Fransisco. They know nothing of guns .
A rifled barrel would make the projectile spin which is a bad thing when you have fins. Smooth barrel is the way to go.
who
Soooo cool! I loved the waltz :)
Good job on the product development, looks awesome!
+Art Thou Thanks! We had a lot of fun with it. We're only hoping to improve the quality of these vids as we go on. Glad you liked it!

Loved it! And yes, please give us more geekery and applied science. And Fun!
been here since the beginning, and can't wait to see what is to come!
Awesome to hear that Robbert. Got some fun stuff planned!
Eclectical Engineering good! I love the videos that are out already, so I can only imagine what you have coming! Who's replying, David or Ryan?
+Eclectical Engineering how many of the 3d printed sabots did you have to make
Great job guys! keep up the good work! greetings from italy!
+FilippoBaruffaldi Grazie!
You guys deserve way more subs
why do you guys only have 23.013 subs??? you deserve at least a mil
Awesome. I have a WWII helmet too. Oh, and nice catch!
Supreme athletic abilities like real engineers.
This is so cool I love this so much keep it up can't wait for more 😉
I was here before 1 mil subs. proud to say that.
Great video and channel. Grettings from Argentina!
Does one of you play paintball? A set of Flex's is a pretty nice mask to just have kicking around haha
well now I know I can launch my gopro hero4 session from a cannon and it wont break haha
That was aaaawsssoommeee!
ooooooor you can put a gopro on a quadopter drone ! hahaha that was fun to see the world moving this way
Wow can't believe this is your first video, awesome content already.
Nice cannon. You could use it for baseball practicing catching pop flies.
Gizmodo brought me here, Awesome video!
I love the fins!
y'all are going places
WELL DONE , THOSE MEN !
What voltage do you apply to the valve? Can it work on 12Vdc, or is it 24vdc ?
Great videos so far guys. Looking forward to more. My only suggestion is to normalize your sound volume. At times your dialog got quiet.
Pls make a video of How you Guys made that canon
Now attach a parachute that opens when its falling so the camera films the ground (cheap drone?)

did you factor the speed of wind into the projectile motion equation

when I saw the headline my first thought was more money than brains. clearly it's a toss up. well done gentlemen!
you 2 deserve more subs!
you deserve 2 more subs?
Jaqen H'ghar Approves This Comment.
no :D this two guys deserve more subs.
I'd be interested to see that footage with some heavy image stabilization
you guys are awesome and so creative
Protip: If you don't have access to a 3D printer to create the projectile, tennis ball canisters will fit perfectly inside the PVC barrel.
love this channel
Why did the camera spin?
holy hell, if only there was raw footage without the music, that whirring sound is amazing.
i think this has potential
Can you guys go more into depth on the mathematics at 1:21?
Coolio guys keep on going, Good luck.
U guys live in Oakland ?
now that was cool.
Can't wait till you guy's make a stable version and try to launch higher. :D
How did the fins deploy? Spring loaded it aerodynamic effects?
Spring loaded
Nicely done! And thanks for the MM love! ;)
Surely the equations ignored air resistance?
can you do a vid on your cannon
That was sick
the air cannon is easy... I want to your print data for the camera shell..
+Kobe Wild Check out our video description for downloads.
Maths are different with air and that projectile shape
Also nice litter
Is the sound while the GoPro is going though the air real or fx?
Real
ok, thanks

+Marc Stevens - i have one ,bad is that it consumes too much of potatoes - but shots are 150-200 m distance ...
Can you provide the 3d printer files?
these people are amazing

Really cool idea! We'll try something along those lines. Thanks for the tip!
3:26
omg, he almost destroys his race laws
Looool
A flamethrower that actually shoots out air and the air can even blow a person off his/her feet
3:47, play at 0:25x
thrilling shots :)
mark rober sent me here
same
I only kinda miss the whole movie from the caught attempt, feels like you cut the most important part!
+pwfd Which part exactly? I can upload the raw footage and link it to you.
+Eclectical Engineering I miss the exact moment of the catch, from the flying camera's point of view :D
+pwfd Here ya go! ua-cam.com/video/Gh-YZIVhoKg/v-deo.html
all those complex calculations and you kept missing the spot where it landed exactly?
Wow..that was cool!! :)
Very Neat - Wish You could Tweak the Fins , so it wouldn't Spin or Spin very slowly .. Still 2 Thumbs Up !
Especially the Catch & Musical Timing . . . Ha Haa Nice . .
they should create this helicopter projectile thing they can shot out the cannon to reduce the impact to the ground and also make a nice Birdseye view
NEEEEEERDS!
(I mean that in a good way)
que buen video chicos buen trabajo
Great!! Very fun... ;)
Nice. Should have gone with 60fps though.
Good job guys!
(don't quit your day jobs just yet though)
Haha fun!!
cool stuff
yalls is crazy smart
this is cool
This is your 160th comment on this video
AWESOME
parachute in tge projectile would have been more cool

+thekingtroll2 keep hating
nice canon bro #gopro
nice video
very cool the camera needs a para shoot lol
Super legal e divertido, parabéns!
It's a mortar. Stop that spin, or post-process to cancel it out.
Now fire a metal shell from a military cannon...
the goal of the attempts wasn’t clear and the whythis is awesome at the start of the video is non existent
Hola
nice!
Fucking Amazing
Who copied who? Sam and Niko or these people?
Fix your bottom left text, it says "eclectical" engineering. It should say, "Electrical", other than that great video!
First video
nice
eCLECtical Engineering, not eLECtical Engineering.
