Fantastic video, the music is beautifully selected. I stayed on the estate for a few days this week, truly breathtaking environment, the foreboding power stations contrasting with the baron landscape and sporadically placed buildings was incredible, I felt very privileged to have experienced it.
I live not too far away from Dungeness and love it's other worldly feel so often take a trip there. Pedant note, it's more the south coast of Kent, not the east coast.
Worked at the powerstation briefly over 10 years ago. It always reminded me of the surface of mars when driving into the station. Weird and wonderful place
was there yesterday. Was so brutal I almost had a panic attack. post-apocalyptic scenes, you would not be surprised to see a mutant reptile scuttling behind an abandoned, dilapidated rotting fishing boat. felt like I was being watched.
Stumbled across Dungeness by accident when I was doing some travelling and exploring around the Isle of Sheppey and Kent (Im from Birmingham) and absolutely fell in love, its such a strange and magical place :)
I wanna go back cause my grandad used to take me and my family and my cousins during like 2014 in the summer and I remember going to Romney sands and seeing the power stations but now he’s dead, and I miss him taking us out…
The place is wonderfully bleak and barren. Really enjoyed the remote and timeless feel. The ramshackle shacks and "houses" plonked right in the middle are an eyesore, though. Not to mention signs screaming "Private", "Stay Out" and "No Entry" every 100 yards. Drags the area down, and makes it feel like hillbilly country. Presume these huts were thrown up before the area was properly protected. Despite that, it's worth a visit.
Wonder how much a holiday home is ?, my timeshare in North Korea is too long a flight these days ,,😉, but seriously music aside it looks lovley , I'd love to visit .
Hi.. I have been to Dungeness last weekend to make some shoots of my motorbike.. unfortunately I didn't have with me my sony camera but only my drone. I was wondering if you allow me to use some seconds of footage from this video? Full credited of course.. link and name of your video will appear on description.
As someone from the harsh Sonoran Desert of Phoenix, Arizona where it reaches up to 50°C, I would nearly call that a rainforest in comparison. lol Well maybe the word "meadow" would suffice.
The definition of a desert in geological terms has nothing to do with how baron a place is. Large areas of the Sahara Desert are lush and fertile. A desert is classified by the amount of rainfall it receives.
@@asensibleyoungman2978 I'm aware of the technical definition. But the entire reason this place gets called a desert is because of how barren it is in comparison to the rest of England. And as someone who lives in a true desert, its a bit amusing, and kind of adorable that some Brits think this area is comparable to going to a desert. I guess in UK terms you could say I'm just "taking the piss". Also speaking of the rainfall requirement, I'll save anyone who's reading this comment some time: No it's not a desert in terms of rainfall. This land receives way too much rain to be considered a desert (27.8" annually) in comparison to the definition cutoff(less than 10"). Nearly 3 times rainier than the rainiest deserts.
@@Noonesassed lol! It's the closest thing they have to one I suppose. I may have been sarcastically poking fun about it in my original post, but I love Britain and and respect all of our close allies, especially the English speaking ones. No actual disrespect intended towards any Brits reading my comments.
You are quite right this is not a desert. It is a large flat natural shingle headland with scrubby bushes, sea cabbage, a bit of grass here and there. Old fishing boats, shacks, and the nuclear power stations (under decommissioning) contribute to the ambience. It is a stark landscape, and England doesn't have many. Try looking North from the Pennine Way near the Tan Hill Inn. Journey through the Dales, final stretch via Stonesdale Lane, before emerging at the edge under a dark grey sky. OMG where have I come to.
The most magnificently bleak place on earth. Just when you think it can’t get any better on the horizon is a Soviet styled atomic power station. The sea glows green, the fish have three heads and testicles, so too do most of the women.
Great video, didn't need the spooky music though - the dramatic, eerie and beautiful landscape has so many more levels than spooky

I travel down from Ashford at least a couple of times a month for a stroll. It’s one of the most beautiful places in the world in my opinion.
I agree - I think it a hidden gem.

It is harsh isn't it. Strangely Beautiful.
Yes, I was expecting a deathclaw to pop up over the horizon any minute lol 😆
Lol. Doctor Who

The most remote place in Kent. With the nuclear power station and 2 pylons in the background.
I love it.I am lucky to live there.
Just wondering. Would be better if the cautus plant can survive the cold UK weather and grow there. 🙂
I really want to visit this place mainly due to the Athlete song called Dungeness which I love. This just seems like such a serene place.
Like the atmosphere of deserted landscape could do with Ry Cooder music.
Yeah, that would be great 👍
Came across this place when planning a bikepacking trip across the south of England.. What a weird place!
Very informative I like it would recommend your channel 👍
Was there last weekend eerie feeling and cold.
Perfect for that location!

Agreed - is a shame about the signage. Thanks for your comment.
A strange but beautiful shingle plain
its my favourite place in the whole world. My grandma and grandpa used to take me their when i was little
I feel like it’s in between being classified a desert and a grassland area, just with a lot more shingle
I briefly saw Derek Jarman's residence,Prospect Cottage?
You did.
I'm going there next week and I had no Idea it was soo... Barren.
But it is addictive.

And the movie "I Want You" with Rachel Weisz was filmed here.
Didn't know that.

Hot during the day freezing at night
such spoopy
I’m going to visit just for Doctor Who :).
why the foreboding soundtrack?! Its a beautiful part of the country, not the location for the Texas Chainsaw Massacre!
I think because it's unlike anywhere else in the UK

second largest single area in the world? What the fuck is he talking about?
Shingle, i.e., stones.
Sum gorgeous shots but really nasty sountrack dudes
This is more green than rural california where I live. And its not considered a desert here its just grassland valley
Large parts of the Sarah's Desert are lush, green and fertile. What makes an area a desert is down to the amount of rainfall that it receives.
If I live in that black and yellow cottage I will put fake cactus 🌵 or even transform the cottage into wild wild west style house 🏜🏚🙂
you guys are making it look spooky when its literally not
Have you ever gone dungeness. It’s a very eerie experience
@@rogantoad2571 yep its my fav place
