1:19, to be fair, she has pretty much the same motive in the Greek myths. She places an apple labeled for the fairest before all the goddesses so that Hera, Athena, and Aphrodite quarrel over it and it leads to the Trojan War.
Well, she is the Deity of discord and strife. She wasn't invited in a wedding that almost everyone else was invited. What did you expect her to do? Write a mean letter?
@@PrimordialNyx The funny thing is, the other gods didn't invite her because they feared she'd cause strife in the wedding. In the end, the only difference was he focused her ways on the gods as a whole rather than the just married couple.
She is a brilliant villain. She has amazing powers as a goddess and her plan, although it has flaws, is still quite interesting. I adore her. I love villains so powerful, mysterious. And that's exactly what she is. She is a real femme fatale. And she is very beautiful - amazing animation!
6:13, I found she was a pretty good villain. And I do appreciate that the Greek god who was their villain was someone who actually played a similar role in the myths. Since in the myths, she’s also a Goddess of Discord who deliberately manipulates others into quarrelling with one another and starting a war. Whereas other movies would attempt to rewrite the characterization to make Hades into a villain. I do have a problem with the fact that the movie is based on Greek mythology instead of on the story of Sinbad the Sailor but that has nothing to do with Eris’s quality as a villain
The reason Eris honours her promises is simply due to the fact that gods of Greek mythology are indeed "bound" to promises they make, especially towards mortals. Of course they can do that whole "deal with the devil" thing, where they give you what you are promised but with a catch, but they are, in general, not unreasonable, even the more brutal ones like Ares for example. Also, i think that the reason she is very idle during the second act is simply due to the fact that she's having so much fun with it all. Think about it, she's a freaking goddess, she's untouchable, she could easily crush Sinbad and his crew with her pinkie, but that's not how she is, she's bored as all hell and mortals are her toys. This is basically us playing The Sims without any restrictions: "let's see what happens if i take away the pool ladder", "what if I set fire to the room?", so I think her being idle is fitting to her character.
What's interesting about her is that she knows she could just kill everyone without the slightest amount of effort but she simply doesn't because there's no fun in that she much rather plan schemes and set events into motion she's like a child playing with ants.
I genuinely believe that Death is unquestionably similar to Eris, starting from the way he talks to Puss. My conspiracy is that Death doesn't exist in Puss in Boots, that's just Eris in disguise as Death itself, she just wanted to mess up with Puss
I loved this love growing and Eris is definitely a fun Villian, while I understand the GC hasn't aged well, I can forgive it a little for its technically push for the studio
I have an idea which villain you can do next. The Mad ducktor from disney comics. You can read him in paperninik and the friendly threat, the return of the mad ducktor, the revenge of the mad ducktor and duckavanger and the Mad ducktor's protocol(part one and two). The first Story you can see in youtobe and the other storys you can read online in the internet. I find the mad ducktor as a funny yet competent and smart villain and really underrated.
I don't really like backstory with bad guys which makes them not bad. I love the 1959 Maleficent, and no other movie can convince me that she's not genuinely evil. Maleficent is the mistress of all evil. And nothing will change my mind.
Eris is a beautiful antagonist, but her motivations for putting chaos are not really clears. AT least unlike most vilains, she isn't dumb and she accepts her defeat. I mean she doesn't really explain the motivations for her goals
That's her thing in the myths: Create chaos and strife for her own amusement. She is one of those villains who only wants fun at the expense of hurting others. Thinking about it, I wonder where were the other gods while all this happened. My personal guess is that this movie takes place during the trojan war, when gods were busy overseeing their champions battles.
I think low-key she wanted to get it on with Sinbad because, yes, she found him cute, and yes, Greek gods often did it with humans; but his goodness of heart was a turnoff for her, so she set out to thoroughly corrupt his soul by having him commit the ultimate betrayal. If he had done that, his relationship with Marina would've shattered, but he could've found himself in bed with Eris. The whole movie could be seen as a romantic tug of war between Marina and Eris; a good girl and the baddest girl pulling at Sinbad's heartstrings, his dream girl and a fucking goddess each trying to win his heart.
@JayFilms, I’m not fluent in Ancient Greek but I think you’re pronouncing Eris wrong. Ares is the Greek god of war en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ares and unless I am sorely mistaken is pronounced how you’re pronouncing Eris. Whereas Eris is the goddess of strife. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eris_(mythology) As I understand it, her name is pronounced kind of like the word heiress is.
@@jayfilms99 I used to make the same mistake, so don’t feel too bad about it. And besides, she was, according to greek myth and accounts of ancient writers/historians, associated with Ares. She was often seen with Ares during a war.
Idk if you have played the killzone games if you have you should review Radec he’s so underrated yet pretty cool villain and the best out of everyone since the others are so forgettable in the series
I watched the movie a few months ago for the first time. Eris was easily the best part of the movie. No contest. Sadly, in terms of being a villain, she's only mid in my book. Still very entertaining to watch but as mentioned, during the second act she isn't doing anything. I'll give points to the creators to actually do their research and picked an actual evil god. I mean, Eris caused the trojan war because she wasn't invited to a wedding. She can do so much worse.

Next time you review a character named Eris please don’t pronounce the name as Ares.
0:48, fun fact. The Roman name for Eris was Discordia. I suspect that’s why she introduces herself to Sinbad as the Godess of discord
Thats pretty cool!
And man, the animators had no business making eris look that spicy.

Eris as a pure evil villain is one of my favorites. I would’ve loved to see more of her pets and how they could’ve been a challenge for the hero’s.

Not him calling Eris Aries I'm dead. 😂

I'm glad they didn't give her a tragic backstory why she wanted to make chaos on mortals tbf it would ruined her character in the movie
