I don't think Jake destroyed Rango in the way your describing. In fact, if it weren't for Jake, Rango would still be nothing but a lying fraud and that is what Jake destroyed. He destroyed Rango's fraud personality in a way where it couldn't be repaired. In doing this, it helped Rango find who he really is and fully accept the role he took. Exactly. Rattlesnake Jake was based on Angel Eyes (Sentenza) from The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1966, the last film in Sergio Leone's Dollars Trilogy), played by the late Lee Van Cleef, as they have similar personalities, traits, dialects, black hat, antagonistic relationship with the hero, and (most importantly) their mustache. It isn't enough for Jake just exposing Rango, he has to make Rango feel absolutely humiliated and alone - and after Rango's gone, Jake doesn't show even the slightest bit of concern at the townsfolk's dismay. While you can argue that it's better to hear a harsh truth than a comforting lie, the way Jake breaks it to the town is absolutely not the way a hero would do it. Rattlesnake Jake is a badass that takes shit from no one. Probably one of my favorite characters in the film. The major was dead as soon as he pointed that gun at them.
For all the other good points the other commenters made about this amazing character -- which I agree with -- the thing that I think needs mentioning is that you almost never see him fully on-screen. He's just too big. He fills the world when he's there -- oppressive, overwhelming, inescapable.
In that scene, Rango says “As long as that sign is there, you have something to hope for.” Then Jake shoots the sign. Kinda sums up what Jake did to Rango, but the sign never fell either.
thanks for reviewing rattlesnake jake. he's a great villain. can you please review obake from big hero 6 the series, ratigan from the great mouse detective, and glados from portal
Jake is a relic from a bygone era, or perhaps he developed his persona as a defense mechanism. Anyone ever wonder why he never used his machine gun against the hawk? Besides, real gunslingers never used anything but pistols for gunfights. But, he winds up as an anachronism because most, if not all, of the town's residents are on his dinner list. He's already at the top of the local food chain. One more thing... Considering the physical size difference, shooting him with those little guns will only make Jake angry. Maybe he gave Rango props for standing in his face with an ineffective weapon, for raw chutzpah.
At that angle, the bullet would have gone into his brain. Jake's big compared to the gun, but not big enough to survive a shot in the head at that close of a range
Those are pretty simple to explain. Jake is scared of the hawk since the hawk is the natural predator of the snake. As you said, jake is at the top of the food chain, except for when the hawk is there. With the hawk, jake has to live with a INSTINCTUAL fear of his natural predator. Jusk like a man will be scared of a wolf even with a gun in hand, the same is here. Fear, thats why jake never used the gun. Also the "it will only anger him" is plainly not true, it would deal a good chunk of demage especialy in the head. It does not matter he is big, his body is that of a snake, and a bullet even that small will kill if aimed at the right place.
2:16 I think what you meant to say are rattlesnakes are scary enough by themselves when they have a mini gun attached to their tail made out of revolver cylinders that adds like times 10
I say he's more of an anti-hero than a villain. My favorite seen was him giving respect to Ringo regarding the "one bullet". That's a bro talk right there.
You forgot to mention Jake isn't exactly a villain - he's an anti-villain. Like you said, he's not evil because he's evil, he has morals and standards, while also being evil- but because of his own morals he thinks what he's doing is right.
That scene at the end after Rango broke the water vault and everything washed back out into the street, and Rattlesnake Jake was gearing up to go again, but then the sun reflecting off the single bullet into Jake's eye is what stopped him and make him realize that Rango was everything he pretended to be earlier in the film. "I tip my hat to you... One legend to another."
So glad Jake won this poll, this movie didn't get enough credit. The details are spot and and the plot was actually good. The eyes on Jake are so PIERCING just like his fangs lol
This snake is such a cool villain. He’s a perfect representation of just how brutal the Wild West could truly be. What really puts him over the top for me is how honorable he is. He doesn’t kill Rango cause just having him leave in shame in enough and he respects Rango enough to leave himself
I'd like to point out the size comparison of the guns to the creatures, a diamond back only grows to roughly 4-6 feet long wich would suggest that at maz the caliber bullet his Gatling gun would be chambered in would be at max a .22 and for Rango the itty bitty lizard welding a revolver would be a all but an action figure gun. Altho at the ending scene a shell casing of colt .45 ACP wich would be roughly the size of rango's head. Other than that great movie and a fantastic villain especially for a snake enthusiast myself, he's pretty badass Also I do like the detail they put into the snake, as far as the keeled scales, hooked teeth, and lack of heat pits
Can I really count this chap as a villain if he’s redeemed? Doesn’t matter really because his confidence and ye olde honour makes him more likeable then most villains.
Something to add to his "not evil" is the revelation in his eyes when Rango shows he's not afraid of Jake any more. from "you got killer in your eyes? I don't see it" to "you ain't got the nerve. Try Me." you see Jake back down, realizing that Rango has found confidence in his identity and will indeed hurt those who "Tango with the Rango". If you watch Jake's body language and expressions after that scene you can see he holds himself differently; when Rango walks to the Mayor, Jake is looking at him in a sort of awe a look that shows things are not always as they seem/as he thought and a person can change drastically. I wish he had been in the movie a little more because he's such an amazing character to see and hear but I also think he was given the perfect amount of time because of the build up. Similar to how Sher Kan was built up throughout the entirety of the original Disney Jungle Book but was only in a few scenes. In my book Rattlesnake Jake will be seen as one of those legendary anti villains of Gore Verbinski's incredible writing just like Davy Jones. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Jake is one of the most kick ass villians I've ever seen I think his motives is he just KNOWS that he's an apex deadly predator And makes it his whole personality
He probably gets another animal to do it. He goes to a small animal and says "Hey, do you want me to bite you?" The animal of course will say "No". Then Jake would say "What? I can't hear you. Reload my gun for "no", do anything else for "yes".
I like how most think his tails a gattling gun but it's actually the drums from revolvers put on top of each other in size order which makes him more menacing in my opinion as it reminds me of the old western vibes of gunslingers with duel revolvers but instead its just lots of drums as a rattle which turn simultaneously to recreate the sound of a revolver reloading
He says one of if not my favorite quote of cinema and it is "I will shoot you so many times you'll be leaking lead." Or at least that is how I remember it
I'd say Jake IS evil. He's the purest evil in the entire movie. He doesn't have any motivations someone could delude themselves into thinking was righteous, he literally refers to himself as a beast from hell. He may be evil, but he is as evil as Rango is good. They stand in equal ground on opposite ends. It's why Rango tips his hat back to him at the end. They may be polar opposite, but they're the same. Jake never lies about his accomplishments or his place, and by the end neither does Rango. They stand on such equal ground that they have a deep respect for each other. Rangos goal as the hero and Jake's goal as a monster line up perfectly, to punish the one that did them wrong.
His motive is if he has a job he will do it. It’s called a force of nature character. When they have a job they will do it and if the job ends it ends. He had no personal beef with rango other than standing in the way of his job.

For all the other good points the other commenters made about this amazing character -- which I agree with -- the thing that I think needs mentioning is that you almost never see him fully on-screen. He's just too big. He fills the world when he's there -- oppressive, overwhelming, inescapable.
Jake is just one of those bad guys who’s just unnecessarily cool and we’re all fine with that.

3:37 notice that the black strips on his mouth are supposed to represent a mustache that’s a nice detail
Not sure I’d say Jake isn’t evil. He was 100% cool with crushing Beans to death. But hey, he’s scary for a reason.
I'd call him Lawful Evil. Or Neutral Evil. But Lawful bc he has his own set of codes and laws that he'll follow.
@@TheSylvirr having your own laws and codes isn't lawful, if it was then pretty much everyone would be lawful, its more about following society's laws
Jake had more character development in 7 minutes than Rey had in 3 movies.
Is no one talking about the turtle at the end who just got taken by him we never know what actually happens which is kind of terrifying
His eyes remind me of The Eye Of Sauron from lord of the rings
You forgot to mention Jake isn't exactly a villain - he's an anti-villain. Like you said, he's not evil because he's evil, he has morals and standards, while also being evil- but because of his own morals he thinks what he's doing is right.
Can you do
Johan liebert from monster
Shogo makashima from psycho pass
Griffith from beserk
I love how he has that thin smudge line of black on his upper lip that makes him seem like he has a mustache
Ah yes, Rattlejake snake
Next one I want: Ivar The Boneless
That scene at the end after Rango broke the water vault and everything washed back out into the street, and Rattlesnake Jake was gearing up to go again, but then the sun reflecting off the single bullet into Jake's eye is what stopped him and make him realize that Rango was everything he pretended to be earlier in the film.
"I tip my hat to you... One legend to another."
Honestly, two words: color scheme. Those flaming orange eyes and sandy scales are just gorgeous.
I've never seen this movie and yet this really looks so good!
Fun fact Jake is based on Lee VanCleef aka Angel Eyes
I wonder how he recharged the machinegun if the bullets are in the straps locked in the main body
Honestly rattlesnake jake is a 10/10 character imo.
So glad Jake won this poll, this movie didn't get enough credit. The details are spot and and the plot was actually good. The eyes on Jake are so PIERCING just like his fangs lol
i absolutely loved this character
he's just so damn menacing and badass like fr
This snake is such a cool villain. He’s a perfect representation of just how brutal the Wild West could truly be. What really puts him over the top for me is how honorable he is. He doesn’t kill Rango cause just having him leave in shame in enough and he respects Rango enough to leave himself
at 0:53 he said RattleJake Snake and it really messed me up on what his name was for a while
Looks like Lee Van Cleef from the Fistful of Dollars series
I'd like to point out the size comparison of the guns to the creatures, a diamond back only grows to roughly 4-6 feet long wich would suggest that at maz the caliber bullet his Gatling gun would be chambered in would be at max a .22 and for Rango the itty bitty lizard welding a revolver would be a all but an action figure gun. Altho at the ending scene a shell casing of colt .45 ACP wich would be roughly the size of rango's head. Other than that great movie and a fantastic villain especially for a snake enthusiast myself, he's pretty badass
Also I do like the detail they put into the snake, as far as the keeled scales, hooked teeth, and lack of heat pits
i love jakes voice and the way e articulates his word..... hellooooo burathaaaa lmfao
Can I really count this chap as a villain if he’s redeemed? Doesn’t matter really because his confidence and ye olde honour makes him more likeable then most villains.
The part where hes shooting the bats and opens his mouth while firing, kinda looks like a venus flytrap
“Todd is not a scary name”
“You have NOT seen Breaking Bad”
0:50 umm rattlejake snake
Lol
Lmao
Do one on Omni Man from Invincible he just such a cool character and has good motives
Okay
Make a Villain review of the King Candy from Wreck it Ralph.
0:50 was that "rattlejake snake" on purpose or just a legendary slip up?
i thought it would have been more important how the other characters in the film characterize him as the grim reaper, and how he owns it.
"Look into my eyes girl, i wanna watch you die" -Rattlesnake Jake, noted not-evil villian according to this video
I love how In the beginning he said rattle Jake snake
after rango escaped jake gains respect for him. im sure he still holds a grudge
"I tip my hat to you. One legend to another." - Rattlesnake Jake shows his respect to Rango
Till this day, that movie still looks good.
Jake is one of the most kick ass villians I've ever seen
I think his motives is he just KNOWS that he's an apex deadly predator
And makes it his whole personality
my god the amber herd thing was a year ago?
0:53 “Rattlejake Snake”
Honestly he was the only thing of the ENTIRE moive I remembered
Completely understandable
Rattlesnake Jake: Noone will believe you even exist
Also him: *terrifyingly drags*
I keep asking myself how does reload his gun
He probably gets another animal to do it. He goes to a small animal and says "Hey, do you want me to bite you?" The animal of course will say "No". Then Jake would say "What? I can't hear you. Reload my gun for "no", do anything else for "yes".
0:53 “so rattlejake snake” 💀💀💀
“I’m gonna blow so many holes in you, your guts will be leakin lead!” - RS Jake, 2011
This movie is so underrated. It’s so good!
i can never unsee the mustache ingraved into his skin
i never saw it before this video despite watching the movie more then 5 times
its that good
He says one of if not my favorite quote of cinema and it is
"I will shoot you so many times you'll be leaking lead."
Or at least that is how I remember it
I'd say Jake IS evil.
0:52 one-take jake right here
5:37 *_A gun with one bullet._*
His motive is if he has a job he will do it. It’s called a force of nature character. When they have a job they will do it and if the job ends it ends. He had no personal beef with rango other than standing in the way of his job.
Anton Chigurh would be interesting.
I always call him Jake the Rattlesnake Roberts!
You have a brain of many wrinkles
As soon as the origins sign goes away he says rattlejake snake lol
Totally on purpose
For any Star Wars fans in the comments, help me settle a debate between me and my brother. Who wins in a fight, Rattlesnake Jake or Cad Bane? To be clear, this is a 1v1, so Cad can’t be pulling any Rango style plays.
I think your forgetting that the Mayor is the actual villain
best movie back in the day when i was younger probably still is
You forgot Iroh , since you added zuko for his sword fighting skilk, just remember that the day before the black sun, he basically told a fire nation guard who was kind to him " hey... Don't show up to work tomorrow" then proceeded to bend his prison bars with his hands, and defeat every gaurd in there.
