I am currently rebuilding my fe290. Had the cylinder bored and I’ve got it all almost put back together but it’s hard to turn the crank by hand. How tight was yours when you rebuilt yours?
Great video, and great little motors.....your title says yamaha, and i guess you know by now its a kawasaki motor 😁 good idea putting an oil pressure gauge on it.
For this rebuild I used this kit www.psep1.biz/Kawasaki-Rebuild-Kits/kawasaki-fe290d-standard-size-ultimate-rebuild-kit.asp but the crank was not correct, I had to modify it for the clutch as I stated in the video. You can get the correct crank with the taper, but it is 6-700 bucks. This website also sells a kit without the crank if you don't need it.
You would need to change the flywheel woodruff key. They are sold online, I made mine. Check out this forum www.buggiesgonewild.com/showthread.php?t=138675
Excellent video Jim. Enjoyed the editing and the music.
Thanks 👍

Mine was not that hard with no cylinder head installed. I don't know what the turning torque is supposed to be though so I suppose it's subjective.
Could you help me if 1/8 of crank play side to side is okay??
Do you have to service the crank?

Thanks for calling that out!!! I totally had a brain freeze.
Fixed the title, I had the hash tags correct, totally messed up the title.
where did you order the kit from? Could you post that link?

Do you have any videos of rebuilding the drive clutch
I do not, but I can make one. I have another engine I am currently rebuilding.
How did you advance the timing?
