- This is such a unique case. I don't 100% love it, but damn do I respect them doing something different. It isn't just a throwback 90s sound, but it really harnesses how ridiculous and stupid some songs / concepts were. It reminds me of when albums had sketches between tracks on a record, or oddly a bit of the goofy grime you get from ICP.

The vendor/fast food guy is another artist that the director does work for who goes by the name "Mass of Man", and the grandma is a 90-year-old friend of his named Mary. He also has behind the scenes and such on his youtube channel Ben Proulx.
I love YOUNG POSSE. Their potential is immense.
YP girls write their own lyrics and raps too. which is dope. Check out their bsides "ROTY" and "Skyline" for sure.
ROTY is magical.
I’m all in on the old school clown/party hip hop vibe. I think gangsta rap made people forget how much early hip hop had comedy. Also, I implore you to check out the ep b sides on Spotify or whatever, I was shocked. They’re really good. I’m not usually a big fan of”oh but the b sides!” guy, but in this case it’s super interesting. There’s also a cover medley floating around out there on UA-cam, they have a ton of charisma and they’re secretly very good singers. Also, their leader (Sunhye, the one with the short hair), has said outright they know they are coming at hip hop from an outsider status and they just want to be respectful and fun. Young Posse and Kiss of Life are the one two punch of kpop for me right now.
Young Posse doesn't miss a song, don't sleep on the b-sides, they are all amazing and show that the girls are super versatile and have great vocals too
I really appreciate you giving them another chance with an open mind. They dont take themselves too seriously and thats what I loved immediately. They are refreshing in this 5th gen clean fluff thing goin on.😂
The guy who directed these, Ben Proulx, is a US based film and music video director (with a grammy nomination under his belt), and Macaroni Cheese was his very first encounter with K-Pop. They asked him to return for the XXL comeback ... he did, and outdid himself.
Now, I sorta, kinda, liked Macaroni Cheese because of it's weirdness ... but what really got the group my full attention was the Young Posse Up (remix) in February; and then we had the XXL comeback. But here is the point - the more you dive into what is beyond these two silly, quirky, brilliant MVs ... the more you see that this group is actually incredibly talented and can - and does - show quite different sides as well. What really catapulted them into my girl group A-Tier are the B-sides of the XXL album. No skips, the singers rap, the rappers sing, they go from afrobeats to drum 'n' bass influenced styles. Next you realize that they write their lyrics themselves ... which is not quite that common in K-Pop. Then you watch some live performances and notice the stage presence they have ... Sunhye doing her speedrap part in XXL while in full choreo dance mode is almost NMIXX level territory of live stages ... then they throw out some cover tracks and performance videos on the (fairly unknown) blip channel ... And. They. Kill. It. Honestly, I have rarely been this impressed. But, as I said, that is when you look further than just Ben Proulx' videos.
'Nuff said.
Same for me at the beginning, and now I'm bumping my head each time that they're in music shows, and btw, they're really cool on stage, total different experience from MV to Live. You should give it a try during your spare time (if you have any? :D)

Young Posse completely took over for me this year. Their B sides are really so amazing too. I've been waiting for a girl group like them for such a long time!!! I want to appreciate artists that aren't afraid to put themselves out there. If you ever have the time, check out the lyrics to their bside ROTY - after hearing it my support for them was solidified, I went to get 2 albums right away 😂
we need this kind of fun but personal art from idols. Highly manufactured groups are always stunning and with amazing production but this kind of music that YP are doing is why I'm always reminded that music is capable of saving lives. It's not that dramatic with YP of course (yet) but I felt a connection to their lyrics, how sincere and honest they are with themselves, their art and their fans. I really can't wait for the future and hope that DSP keeps this up with them! They probably will never be at Blackpink level but if they keep this up, they'll have a very strong fan base that will be ready to go to battle for them.
xxl album bsides are so good. I literally cry when i listen to these songs (i also love macaroni cheese album bsides)
Honestly I love these girls (I still don’t know them well) but they are so talented , and we need more silly concepts in kpop
Was skeptical about them when Macaroni Cheese came out, but after listening to one of their bsides and XXL, I've come to love the quirkiness of it all.

i wasn't and still am not a big fan of Macaroni cheese, i just think the song is a bit weak, but their remix of one of their b-side into this heavy UK drill with many males hiphop artists features caught my eyes. I was ok now we're talking you have a direction you wanna go, and now this CB just cleared all my doubts and i'm 100% on board with them. XXL is just a love letter to 90's east coast boom bap, even the video and its PS1 3D model NPC, the hommage to the XXL magazine in the MV, etc... For sure their MVs are something you want to see what they gonna do next. The Ep itself is fantastic and is currently the co-frontrunner for my EP/AOTY with Purki. highly recommend you to check it out, they have a great song with BM in it, ROTY is a also a fantastic b-side.
Love that they go all-in in what they do. I agree people should stop the comparison between them and XG, they both go in different direction inside this weird Kpop / hiphop mix.

YES! Fun fact, the leader Sunhye, has become tied with Yezi as having the fastest rap line at 8.5sps. Lee Youngji, Yeji and now Sunhye. So damn proud of these girls. So happy you’re enjoying them! They take part in writing the music, Sunhye also wrote Macaroni Cheese. Jiana learned how to rap and spent a lot of time getting better. All of them just have loads of talent and I can’t wait to see what’s to come

I HIGHLY suggest looking for the random kpop dance video featuring a bunch of new kpop groups and Young Posse was among them. I truly just fell more in love with these girls. They have so much charm.

I believe the outfits with the grills and all the bling are meant to be like an XXL Magazine photoshoot and I think it comes across well as somewhat humorous costumes.
OTB and Scars are also great songs with less distractions
This Comeback their Impact as A Group had a Full Potential. Especially the Full XXL i was amaze by them and say that " This Group has a Different Aura that i didn't see to my GGs i Stan.' Idk how to explain but they really have a Potential that they will succeed in the Future and I hope it will to their Future Comebacks. Highly Recommend the EP of MACARONI CHEESE & XXL their Song 100% Banger and Lively Bopping your Head while Listening to it ❤️🔥

Oh my god never. ICP and their fans were a weird fascination of mine. I pretended to like it ironically around my friends and came to enjoy a few songs, so I knew I had to stop lol.

RBW collecting talented groups like Pokemons but hardly promoting them. I love these girls. They're the Hip Hop version of Mamamoo for sure. They can sing too. They brought back my childhood, honestly, with this crazy old school hip hop style. Watch their live performances, they're MAD! For me, "Macaroni Cheese" is like Mamamoo's crack songs like "Taller than you".🤣
BTW their Posse Up MV, is freakin' dope! The funny thing is with Young Posse could be so cringe, especially with songs like "Macaroni Cheese", but they're not.
My favorite k hip pop song is 1cm Taller Than You by Mamamoo. Conceptually and musically memorable, personal and funny. I wish that Solar will do a rap heavy song on Colours.
Whoa! Just saw this on my feed. I was going to recommend this group to you awhile back but I never thought you'd check them out. Just doesn't seem like your thing (with their ages and that it doesn't look like you're into checking out XG, a somewhat similar type group), but I'm happy to see you joining the party. YP is shooting up my favorites list and I think they're going to be big. I see them as the next evolution in kpop gg rapping. They do have some b-sides where they show off more of their vocals, btw. Cool, I'm looking forward to this reaction.
I started out with Mac&Cheese thinking no way. It's somehow addictive. Their main producer seems to be Kiggen from Phantom, a group that was comanaged by RBW and Brand New Music. He's the CEO of Beats Music that shares a building with DSP.

Ben Proulx the director had stated his inspiration for YPs videos isnold school cartoons like LOONEY TOONS. They are the ki d of group where on first listen leaves you unsure but they 10000% grown on you and are super talented. Def recommend the B-sides. They have crazy talent.
