DIY Staircase Railing Fabrication and Install
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 жов 2024
- This DIY Staircase Railing project was probably the most challenging piece of finish carpentry work that I've tried on this ICF build. After a few attempts at building custom box newels, I finally was able to get the rustic look and color I had envisioned. Drilling holes in the oak angled staircase railing was difficult using a 3/4 inch spade bit I kept at it. The round balusters left over from the exterior deck rail was a perfect complement to the dark stain color and we were able to save quite a bit of money on the project by fabricating the whole thing from scratch.

Absolutely gorgeous stairs, I am very happy for you all.
Thanks!
Jeremy, those railings are stunning. You did an excellent job. Thanks for sharing.
Sorry about the audio. My microphone decided to be a potato. 😒
No worries, Thought it was just rain 😆
Didn't notice. But then again I have tinnitus.
Looks perfect. Your house is going to be absolutely beautiful when you’re done.
Your home is amazing. I’m sure you are going to enjoy it for many years to come. Great work. 🇦🇺
I'm just loving this showcase home you are building. You have worked so hard, be proud of your amazing skills!!
😊
Well done. I had concerns when you said you were scratch building for the first time, but that is a beautiful set of stairs.
I had concerns too, but necessity (inflation) is the mother of invention.
Hello, The staircase railing is just beautiful, Jeremy you did an excellent job 👏👏👏. Another one checked off the list, your getting closer...yay!
Just amazing your dedication to detail and craftsmanship. Beautiful sir. Job well done!
Your work is always impeccable.
I would love to see how you put the railing/balusters/etc... together...drilled the holes, found the angles, etc...looks fabulous! Thank you for sharing.
I feel like Congratulations is appropriate!!!! Great Job👌
Some people conquer a castle. Some people inherit a castle. You sir, are building one!
Absolutely love ❤️ how the house is turning out! That view from the top is stunning 🤩
Simple and beautiful railing, it compliments your ceiling.
What a fantastic job! The stairs are beautiful! You are such a talented man.
WOW!!!
I do not comment often on youtube. Just wanted to say that everything is looking great so far.
Thanks 👍🏻
Hey those stairs are absolutely BEAUTIFUL..... Now sit down and take a minute to admire them and have beer.😀👍👍
There are no words for it. just saying.
Jeremy, your carpentry skills are top notch! Very impressive stair railing system….looking gorgeous! 😁😁😁👏👏👏👏
Absolutely beautiful! You have done such a amazing job on this build ! Bravo!!!!
Hey you two. The hubby and I have been watching you guys from the beginning and just finished our own house build but not debt free like you guys. Hubby want to know if you would be willing to do a "Dirt" special on how you created a budget and on how you were able to keep to that budget debt free. Also, Congratulations on the house it's beautiful!
You are blessed with amazing construction skills. Your home is coming along beautifully🪴
You two will have the sexiest house on your block.
Wow, looks beautiful, you really are very talented. Best wishes from Australia 🇦🇺
***All I can say is WOW.. so impressed by you and what you create!!! Huge statement in your beautiful home and it nails it.. more than nails it.. just so beautiful, can't even find the words.. so happy for you guys..
Looks Great! Glad to see you guys get this far.
Wow. You do such beautiful work.
absolutely beautiful - you're so patient and meticulous - really great work
I sure hope you can get to living and enjoying your home soon, so many regulations and hoops to jump before moving in. It is looking fantastic you two!
My advice to you is,,,get your builder's license and start your new career, you will succeed. God bless you
How sturdy are those hollow posts? They look really nice, but will they hold up against a persons body weight leaning into them?
You’re closer than you think to certificate of occupancy… you can use a quick and easy countertop for the sink/s… no need to wait for fabrication, unless your inspector is different than ours.
Very nice railing, it fits the house design just super. With the top rail, you could always use pocket screws from below the rail into the post. They even make woods for the pocket holes.
Well worth the effort. Those stairs and railings are beautiful!
Aloha! That is one HANDSOME staircase, wow! I love that compass trick. Thank you.
OMG! 8 weeks? Give or take, I get that, but holy cow! I'm so excited for you guys! I can already envision the girl leaning over the railing hollering, "Mom!" maybe, "Dad!" But, hollering for dad would possibly mean something went wrong that needs fixed so let's hope it's mom that is hollered for. 🤣
The staircase and loft look so nice! I can see the loft becoming the place to enjoy spectacular views in the future. I'm just so excited for y'all!
P.S. Did you get the desk moved? Maybe I missed that part somehow?
Yes we got the desk upstairs. It was a beotch. 😣
@@Guildbrookfarm - 🤣 Then I am happy for you.
The railing turned out beautiful. You definitely have talent.
Its looking great man!
Great job! Looks awesome.
Beautiful! Congratulations on that project!
Thanks 😊
Amazing job - looks awesome. Sure you aren't a professional :-) Looks much better then some of the carpenters work I've seen......thanks as always for sharing.
Thanks 👍
House is looking great!
Beautifully done! You should be proud of yourself for attempting such a job and coming out like a pro! Yes, staircases are sooooo expensive to have done. I couldn't afford it so I kept the cheesy one the builder had placed.....its awful. I wish my husband were as crafty as you and at least attempt to doing it.
Looks great!
Ahhh Jeremy, spoken like a true GC..."don't quote me on that" when it comes to timeline. Can't say I've ever heard a real good GC say anything different. Looks stunning! Smiles and blessings...
Your patience and craftsmanship is commendable. Very impressive. Great job!
Wow, they are beautiful. You now also have a ceiling........ Very nice!!!!!!!!
WOW Jeremy that is amazing. I really love that you say "I've never done this before" but you wont spend the $10-15K to pay someone else to do it and you teach yourself how to do it AND you get to keep the tools!!! Win, win, win. And you KNOW it done perfect like you like it! Just beautiful!!! Hey, where's the desk??? LOL
It’s in the bedroom lol
It all looks amazing 👍🏼👍🏼
Oh my! That is beautiful! Love your process with these projects. Excited that your family is getting close to moving in! Best wishes!
I’m just amazed at the build and the finishes. So beautiful and what an accomplishment Jeremy.
Awesome! Looks so beautiful
A lot of questions unanswered. like, how the posts are attached to the floor. how the verticals are inserted one at a time without the whole thing falling apart. why the half-post, I mean, it's fun to watch you work in time lapse but it really isn't very helpful for someone who is trying to do the job.
You're so precise and talented, I would think you've been a master craftsman your whole life. Your home is so beautiful and you know everything was done right
I've built lots of stairs. What you did is SWEET! Nice job!
Jeremy, nice job on the hand railings you are becoming a Master craftsman almost... Hang in there with the rest of the build.
Looks good. I helped a friend build a rustic stair railing for his cabin but that was far more rustic, everything was rough hewn 3" poles with 1" tenons we cut with a tenon cutter on a Hole Hawg drill. I modified a Harbor Freight tubing coper to drill all of the angled holes and it did until the bushings disintegrated on the last hole. He likes it and I'm pretty proud that it worked out as intended.
What you did is far more polished and it looks great. I'm not sure you could call it rustic though. I love the contrast of the stain on it and the ceiling against the white walls.
GREAT JOB. LOOKS FABULOUS.
What an amazing job. I'm sure you are very proud of how it turned out.
House is looking great!
Wow, it looks like you will be living in a mansion. What a fantastic house. I love the color of the wood.
Looking great! All that hard work staying to pay off!
You made that look easy...but I know it was not. Great job!
Awesome work. I love the clean lines but with a rustic vibe.
Pretty awesome railings -- nice job!
Thank you
Wow, looks great!
Love the railing, stain color, and the house! Gorgeous home!
Wow amazingly beautiful. You did an awesome job. You’re getting closer and closer to your goal. ✅
Gorgeous!!! I love it!
Beautiful job and beautiful view from up there.
It’s just great when a project turns out exactly as you thought! Beautiful stairs and rail. 👏👏👏
I really like your design can you show us a blueprint floorplans my wife and i have land we have been dreaming one of something similar to your plan
Wow Jeremy you did a fantastic job! They are just beautiful!! I always look forward to see the beautiful job you do on your home.
Beautiful 😍
This just looks absolutely incredible!! That stain color is stunning.
Looks AMAZING!!! You did an awesome job despite the headache...lol
Ha thanks 👍🏻
absolutely beautiful amazing job looking forward to you moving in
wow! Just wow!
Beauriful!
Beautiful
You're achieving such a nice finish on everything, it'll be worth the pain in the end :D
Well done!
You do such a great job with whatever you take on. A question I hope you can answer: I am wondering why people gravitate towards high ceilings where windows and lighting become a monumental feat to reach, as we get older especially, in homes that are being built for old age hopefully?! Is it just an aesthetic preference or is there some practical purpose I am not aware of? It just seems to me that if I am designing a home I hope to remain in through old age, I want to design as maintenance-easy as possible. These double story rooms make it so you can't change a light bulb without hiring a professional!
Exactly my thoughts, it looks great but.....
And it makes the space difficult to heat and cool without having big ceiling fans.
Well done !!!! Looks fantastic. Your a detail surgeon 😁
Jamie the rails are stunning. Beautiful job. stay safe.
Aloha! Jeremy, as always beautiful job! 💞
The stairs turned out amazing. I’m always amazed at the attention to detail that you have. Your work is beautiful.
Thank you! Cheers!
That is awesome! I keep telling my husband we need some new front steps and railing. You're hired! Seriously, I love your style, Jeremy. It's simple, rustic yet classy. My husband used to love creating things like that, but he has been in too much pain to build stuff lately, do anymore than is necessary so we'll have to hire it out, I guess, if he ever decides he wants to do it. Won't be long until you move in. I can't wait until we see you do a session of The Dirt sitting on your front porch looking out over the mountains. Love to you both, Cynthia
Railings look great Jeremy
Wow!! That is absolutely beautiful!! What a long way from watching you dig out the foundation. The view from that area is stunning!
Beautiful stairway, Jeremy! Beautiful job!! Thanks for sharing. I'm looking forward to the finished kitchen. :-D
It looks amazing, I've been watching since breaking ground on the new area for the house and I've been so excited to see the progress!!! You've both done an amazing job with everything! (I guess the well wasn't the most tedious huh?) LOL
Your work is beautiful, but I am a critic of the time spent on building everything. I would have gone with pre-fabricated material. You had plenty of work on that railing system without manufacturing everything. You have top notch skills Jeremy
No I wasn't done trying to find right spelling for my word lol you get it I'm here waiting

A job well done. It looks amazing!
Excellent job. It's beautiful! No idea how you figured all the angles on the steps...
Looks great!
Beautiful work!
