The reason I like the save system in KCD is because it adds a sense of risk to the game, which makes it all the better when you can escape danger or succeed in a risky scenario. If you can save whenever then you're actions have no weight to them, because you can reload from any point you want whenever you want.
The same could be accomplished with a game that constantly autosaves and limits you to one save. The complete lack of autosaves is what to me really drags down the system.
The first content creator I see having caution regarding KCD2. I'm really hyped about the game like a lot of people, but I think we need people like Slander G to tell us to pump the brakes, even if just a bit!
Hey Slandered, you don't just have the saves from Saviour Schnapps, you can also save and quit, but also every town(inn's can rent a room for 2 groschen) and sometimes littered around the landscape there are little settlements with save and sleep options, but yeah the save system does detract from the game, but I have not had a super hard time saving the game even in hardcore playthrough without the auto saves.
I'm aware of the different ways to save but it doesn't help when you spend an extended amount of time out in the forest or away from any real civilization. Plus much of that costs money which is very hard to come by early.

It's less optional because it's the cheapest and most cost and time-effective way to farm saviour schnapps which you need to save the game at all. With a save mod it's completely optional, without a save mod it's a chore.
@@SlanderedGaming I actually kinda enjoyed the alchemy minigame, and by the time I've got tired of it, I had enough skill to auto-brew potions anyway... I wasn't the biggest fan of KCD1's save system, but wasn't particularly bothered by it after a while. Given its survival elements, I was frequently stopping to sleep when I had the chance to just to keep fatigue at bay. One of things I've gotten used to from various survival games I guess
Agree with you on the save system. Agree with mostly all your points. I modded the save system, and the bush collisions, back when I played it in 2018. I'm an original kickstarter backer of KCD, so you will see my portrait in the Sasau monestary. :D
I personally believe that Warhorse really respects your time. For example, you’ll hear npc’s talk about a wagon that tipped over down south, next to a river. You’ll go there, taking time out of your day, and you will, if not, always be rewarded. Unlike some games where they increase the map size but nothing really rewarding, oh you went on a cliff, congrats that’s it. Whereas Warhorse puts things in place for you to decide if you want to go out of your way to explore and follow leads.
I agree with what you said but I disagree that the game is good about respecting your time. Another issue I have had with the game is that things are marked on the map that don't actually do anything for you. There are a ton of "interesting sites" where there's nothing to loot and nobody to speak to. I regularly searched through them until I realized it's consistently a waste of time.
Some interesting takes! I never felt that KCD 1 didn't tell a complete story. Henry takes his revenge rather soon. But the story keeps evolving. I found that rather intriguing. Also loved alchemy. Even after maxing that out I sometimes just crafted potions manually because it felt so nice and fitting.
11:34 The one and only game where I actually liked how they restricted saves was Far Cry 2, where in the original non-PC version you could ONLY save at safe houses. There were always safe houses that you could clear near mission objectives, and after you cleared them those safe houses could contain NPC allies of yours who had a chance to save you when you died. HOWEVER, the NPCs would have to fight their way out with you when they're saving you, and if they get killed saving you they're dead forever. If you spent the prep time clearing safe houses you weren't as badly punished as you could be, and if an NPC saves you don't even have to reload a save. This meant that EVERY fight in Far Cry 2 was tense, and you were highly rewarded for playing the game like the guerrilla you're supposed to be. If you stayed on the main roads you could easily run into enemy patrols that would kill you in seconds, but if you went off road and were cautious you'd be fine. Similarly, while clearing objectives you were highly incentivized to play the game carefully and plan as much as possible. If you're clearing an enemy base for example, earning, bringing and learning how to use a portable mortar was MASSIVE for improving your survivability. You could shell an area and then move when the enemies came for you. Having a restrictive save system done well was massive for making Far Cry 2 feel unique on the Xbox, and it lost a lot when it came to PC and got a generic save system. At the same time however, this was ONLY true because it fit both the tone and gameplay of Far Cry 2 to have this save system, and there was extensive work done to not make it feel TOO restrictive.
Maaaan I hope you have a good time with KCD2. I tried the first one and I really gave it like 20 hours of play and it just not lend to a stealthy playstyle that I enjoy. Also I am ASS at the combat... which is why I prefer the stealth approach.
I think they plan on it being a trilogy, which might mean the main story remains unfinished. They could finish the revenge arc and move on to bigger goals for the third, we'll have to wait and see. Regardless I'll be amazed if this game doesn't tick all my boxes as someone who loves the first game warts and all.
I completely agree with your perspective and concerns of KCD2. I believe that the saving system is the biggest concern of them all. And I get that they wanted an immersive way of saving the game, but that quickly burns out for me. I just can't waste 1 our of my life and load a save because some bandit encounter killed me while traveling with my full bags for example. Same with alchemy, it felt good the first time I did a few potions, then I just wanted to get it done fast so I can do quests and explore. I really hope that KCD2 will be at least slightly better overall than the first one, and I will be happy, as KCD1 was really good. As for the concerns, we have the modding community to tweak the game further ;)
Same here. But the 1st one runs great, and kcd2 uses the same engine so hopefully will be fine. (I did see somewhere twiiter or reddit that someone had tried it on steamdeck (arch linux) and said it worked).
you have to find the recipes but the best gear is stuff you make yourself, weapons come in quality tiers 1-3 but the ones you make can hit a tier 4, those cant be found they have to be made
I like that you once again take a more balanced look at the game and also talk about some of the issues it might have at release. Right now, everbody seems super hyped for a game that just can't seem to do wrong and honestly, I'm gonna be super happy if that's the state the game is released in. But people also seem to forget the buggy mess the first game was upon release. So it probably helps to moderate your expectations as to the release state of the game. I also totally agree with you on the save system, I aboslutely hated it and it's one of the reasons I'll probably only tackle KC:D2 when I'm done with Monster Hunter: Wilds and Avowed.
Haven't yet played the first one (still in my Steam backlog), but this looks like an upgrade in every respect, particularly the combat which looks a lot less clunky. Oh, and that bald bearded guy attacking you at 4:05 looks just like Matt Hansen! 😀
The save system in the original was fine unless you went out into the woods for a week. I do hope they changed it, but if not I can craft saviors snapps. The end of the fist game was a disappiontment, but as long as the sequel delivers i think its fine to end the waybit did
I'm not 100% sure if it was like this from the start but pretty sure it was you could save and exit the game and it wouldn't cost you a saviour schnapps so the having to run off at a moments notice wouldn't't have been a problem yes it's an inconvenient saving system but it's meant to be that way so you don't just save before making a decision and being able to go back and retcon the decision whenever you like so the decision you make truly matter and shape Henry's story instead of being able to basically metagame because you know the effect of your choice before solidifying your choice
@@raven_eye_jack3698 yeah, why i only play crusader kings 3 on iron man mode, but saving was a problem for me when i played kingdom come and in rpgs ironman or fewer saves should really be a personal choice also because most ppl who play games like this don't sit there for 10 hours a day and have other things going on in life
I can understand players not liking some of those points. I myself love Alchemy the way it is. Thats probably why im 150 hours into the game and still haven't beaten it. The less gamey the game feels' the more I like it. I heavy rp my games also. RDR2 for example, I walk all the time, eat and sleep regularly, walk my horse and take the saddle off everytime I camp. I absolutely love that stuff. Saving has never been an issue for me either in KCD. Just because I sleep and use the baths all the time. Everytime im at an inn ill buy the schnaps as well.
Alchemy is optional - that's why it works. Don't want to waste time? Just buy potions. Potions are never even mandatory, but can also make a huge difference (-50% incoming dmg is busted), so you should "suffer" making them, while I personally enjoy the process even 100+ hours in. KCD is about immersion and managing friction, because there is *no* immersion without friction. Getting around without fast travel is also friction and "boring" to some. Having to wash yourself is also an element of friction, but it's important for immersion. The only real problem is that the game is an RPG, so the devs need to balance players skill vs character skill all the time, and that's a huge challenge, especially for combat/archery. So they just follow one formula: at lower levels let's keep it biased towards player skill, and then reverse it. That's exactly how it works with combat: at first you need to struggle and pretend it's a simulator, but then you just spam master strikes vs everyone, which is also a problem (hopefully they'll find a middle ground in KCD2).
Master Strikes works differently in KCD2. They can only be done with swords and you must choose the direction opposite of where your opponent is attacking.
@@SlanderedGaming yes that's what they said in an interview, but so far in the preview vids i don't think this has been substantiated; not sure if it's a previewer's fault, or pre-release bug. HOpefully it works as advertised.

@ a lot of what you said in this this video did get my cogs turning, especially about how they’ve been limited to playing one area, did make me pause for a moment and is a very valid point, but sod it… CHARGE!!! 😂
I'm sure I've said this somewhere else, but the main negative for me in this game is the combat system. I hated it in the first game, and I'm not interested in forcing myself through the second game with it. I'm sure the story is fine, the side quests are fine, etc. I just don't enjoy one/third of the game that's supposed to be the main attraction.
Yeah, same for me. I enjoyed almost everything about the first game except the combat, which is why I sadly never managed to finish it. It's just too fiddly for my liking and although it becomes easier to handle once you have unlocked a couple of skills, I was never really looking forward to combat. If anything, it took me out of the immersive experience the rest of the game offered. Just too fiddly for my liking and at times I felt like I'd be better off learning how to actually fight with a sword :P
@@bagel4you387 I mean, you could just offer both options. A free save system for those who want it and the more time consuming but also more immersive one for those who want that. It wouldn't have a huge impact on the game itself and would make both sides happy.
While I agree that the first game didn't auto-save enough and savior schnapps were too hard to come across (before you got skilled enough in alchemy to produce a dozen in a few minutes), but I think it's the best option for the game. The reason for this is that it forced you to live with the consequences of your actions. The original had plenty of quests were the outcome had fairly large implications at least in the immediate area. If you can just save and load however many times you need to get the outcome you want... it cheapens the experience.
Being a recovering alcoholic I hate when I'm forced to drink in games. I'm playing DoS2 for the first time right now and there was a point where someone offered me a drink and I was able to say "no I do not drink alcohol"!!! I loved that!!!!!
Absolutely not. KCD 1 had just as many issues as CyberPunk. You cant and will not say kcd 1 was better than CyberPunk in terms of bugs and performance. They both equally had the same issues
I gotta disagree with you there I played both games on release and cyberpunk was definitely far worse in relation to bugs especially game breaking ones don't get me wrong I absolutely loved cyberpunk and played it on release to completion not leaving months for it to be repaired playing on the base PS4 and it definitely was in a worse state plus you kinda have to take the studios into consideration here one was a AAA studio with heaps of developers (I don't blame them for it's state the shareholders pushed the game out before it was ready) against a tiny indi studio with 11 people working on the game with crowd funding you would expect kcd to be in a fairly rough state to begin with
@@kirbyscreativity good chat mate obviously ignored the part where I said cyberpunk had more game breaking bugs on release obviously you have your opinion and I don't think anyone will be changing it no matter what they say at least we can agree they are both amazing games
What I most hope that Warhorse learned from the first game is to not have quests like A Needle in a Haystack. I know everybody and their grandma complains about that quest, but it can't be overstated how much of a slog it is.
@@MythicDawn You might be the first person I've seen that likes that quest, but to each their own. It has been a while since I did it, but in my experience, I found it overlong, finicky, and easy to fail. A friend of mine stop playing KCD at that point because of that quest lol.
@SlanderedGaming as someone for which wasting time is my #1 dislike in games, i appreciate you pointing that out. If they do a better job in KCD2, I wouldn't mind full price, but I have a feeling a lot of their fans love that kind of realism, so I think it'll stay similar. Well see.

I think there's definitely a group that's biased towards KCD which is part of the reason I felt the need to make this video. Hopefully the sequel is great but let's keep things in perspective.
I don't like the survival part. I don't want my charecter have to eat or keep warm, or sleep. Other than that I will wait a whole new year before I start.
Definitely wouldnt buy the game within the first year of release on console. When the first KCD game was released on prior gen consoles, it was as bad as the Cyberpunk 2077 release. But it was not as popular so it didnt really cause big outrage since so few people cared to buy the game on console. I tried it on Xbox One and Xbox One X and it was terrible. On PC it was playable but had allot of problems. Im very impressed with Warhorse Studios, and I expect KCD 2 to be an open world masterpiece like KCD. But i doubt it will be as fun as it is now on console.
Using exact same visuals as the first game is just lazy. They could have set the game in winter, to make it look totally different from the first. But they just copy-pasted the visuals from the first one. And they expect us to pay 89.95 for this 'new' game? Ha! I might just replay thru the first game and get the exact same experience.
I don't think that's fair to say based on what we know. The impressions are only based on the first 20 hours of the game in a very contained map. We have no idea what the game looks like when we get to the real ful lcities.

That sounds like a fantastic system.
Maaaan I hope you have a good time with KCD2. I tried the first one and I really gave it like 20 hours of play and it just not lend to a stealthy playstyle that I enjoy. Also I am ASS at the combat... which is why I prefer the stealth approach.
Ah yeah I almost completely abandoned stealth which is probably part of why that doesn't bother me.
Yeah hopefully these aspects of the game have been adjusted in the sequel.
A major concern of mine is how the game will run through Proton or Proton GE on Linux.
What is Proton GE?
@ It’s a compatibility layer to play games on Linux through Steam, some games will only work with specific versions or not work at all.
Same here. But the 1st one runs great, and kcd2 uses the same engine so hopefully will be fine. (I did see somewhere twiiter or reddit that someone had tried it on steamdeck (arch linux) and said it worked).
I can't wait to see the Serial Killer Henry part 2.🤣
😂😂
you have to find the recipes but the best gear is stuff you make yourself, weapons come in quality tiers 1-3 but the ones you make can hit a tier 4, those cant be found they have to be made
Awesome! Alright I plan to dig deep into Blacksmithing for sure.
I forgot about the save system because I modded the game to let me save whenever I wanted without consuming a savior schnapps lol
Like most people did. LOL
Thanks. I'll always try to put things in perspective.
Definitely looks like they took all feedback and criticisms from the first game and made improvements, which is nice to see
Yup looks like a big step up all the way around.
My character doesn't drink.
Haven't yet played the first one (still in my Steam backlog), but this looks like an upgrade in every respect, particularly the combat which looks a lot less clunky. Oh, and that bald bearded guy attacking you at 4:05 looks just like Matt Hansen! 😀
😂
The save system in the original was fine unless you went out into the woods for a week. I do hope they changed it, but if not I can craft saviors snapps. The end of the fist game was a disappiontment, but as long as the sequel delivers i think its fine to end the waybit did
Yup the system wasn't conducive to a player just roaming for long periods.
agree 100 percent, save system was a massive problem in first game. Some of us need to be able to save game in 5 minutes and go to work
I'm not 100% sure if it was like this from the start but pretty sure it was you could save and exit the game and it wouldn't cost you a saviour schnapps so the having to run off at a moments notice wouldn't't have been a problem yes it's an inconvenient saving system but it's meant to be that way so you don't just save before making a decision and being able to go back and retcon the decision whenever you like so the decision you make truly matter and shape Henry's story instead of being able to basically metagame because you know the effect of your choice before solidifying your choice
@@raven_eye_jack3698 yeah, why i only play crusader kings 3 on iron man mode, but saving was a problem for me when i played kingdom come and in rpgs ironman or fewer saves should really be a personal choice also because most ppl who play games like this don't sit there for 10 hours a day and have other things going on in life
You could save and exit if you had to leave in a hurry but it's not a good overall system when you spend extended amounts of time away from towns.
Yup I love that this game exist because it appeals to players like you who usually don't get experiences that go that deep.
Pho-lee-idge. Foliage. Not Foil-Igde
Thanks you can tell how many times I've actually had to say that word. LOL
Agree with you on save system shanigans never makes a game better!
Never ever ever. LOL
You can craft blacksmithing best gear, but you nead peark
Nice! I plan to do a lot of it!
RP’ing as a drunk 😆
That's the plan! 😂
Nice vid. Foliage is pronounced FOL-EE-IDGE btw
Thank you!
I haven’t preordered a game in probably a decade or more, got bitten a few too many times. But this is tempting me beyond belief, might even book the week off work 😂
I definitely plan to jump in day 1.
What do you dislike so much about the combat?
Was not so good but been fix up abit in KCD2
Combat against one enemy is fine, but If you have to fight more than one, it's really clunky...
I can't watch this or previews as I like to come to games fresh and knowing as little as possible.
I just tuned in for the "Faaaaantaaastic!" 🤣
LOL thanks!
Concerns: I can't save scum for free and people on the stream are bored watching me craft
Removing the save system is by far the #1 KCD mod. Dislike of that and the alchemy system is very widespread.
@@SlanderedGamingThe love behind the save and alchemy system is also very widespread. Id say it’s 50/50.
@@SlanderedGaming It's good that the developers don't spoil their game and people who love save scam use the mod.
@@bagel4you387 I mean, you could just offer both options. A free save system for those who want it and the more time consuming but also more immersive one for those who want that. It wouldn't have a huge impact on the game itself and would make both sides happy.
@@ElGrompho666 This is cheating and gameplay destruction. Why not also introduce a god-mod option?
I paid 5 bucks for the Royal Edition.
Wolf showed that you can get caned as well for punishment
There are 4 punishments i think and last one after u get branded is a rope = death
Yup looks super exciting.
I hope they fixed their stealth system. First game was way too buggy and still is. Npc pop up behind you and aggro/cover is wonky.
Yup the recent game coverage has emphasized stealth so hopefully it's better now.
As long as it doesn't have a dlc like A woman's lot that locks you into a 4 hour side quest that's boring af.
My concern of course is performance.
Yup that's going to be a major factor.
You can only build weapons and some random itens, nor armor.
Ahhhh interesting okay so gear will serve a purpose over just being sold. Thanks.
I have no issues with living with my consequences the problem is losing progress due to losing a fight.
Shoutout to my boy slandered 😤
What's up dude!
Being a recovering alcoholic I hate when I'm forced to drink in games. I'm playing DoS2 for the first time right now and there was a point where someone offered me a drink and I was able to say "no I do not drink alcohol"!!! I loved that!!!!!
Oh wow I never thought about that. Yeah KCD is probably rough for those who don't want to be exposed to alcohol.
"Foilage"
I really didn’t like potion making AT ALL. zero positive comments, hope they streamlined it or kept it avoidable
A lot of people didn't. LOL
Thanks for the video
My pleasure!
5:20 lmao
It just can't be helped. LOL
Absolutely not. KCD 1 had just as many issues as CyberPunk. You cant and will not say kcd 1 was better than CyberPunk in terms of bugs and performance. They both equally had the same issues
I gotta disagree with you there I played both games on release and cyberpunk was definitely far worse in relation to bugs especially game breaking ones don't get me wrong I absolutely loved cyberpunk and played it on release to completion not leaving months for it to be repaired playing on the base PS4 and it definitely was in a worse state plus you kinda have to take the studios into consideration here one was a AAA studio with heaps of developers (I don't blame them for it's state the shareholders pushed the game out before it was ready) against a tiny indi studio with 11 people working on the game with crowd funding you would expect kcd to be in a fairly rough state to begin with
@raven_eye_jack3698 that doesn't make it any better. So case closed. Both were rough but gradually became really great games
@@kirbyscreativity good chat mate obviously ignored the part where I said cyberpunk had more game breaking bugs on release obviously you have your opinion and I don't think anyone will be changing it no matter what they say at least we can agree they are both amazing games
Really? Wow I didn't play it at launch but form what I heard it wasn't that bad.
Safe to say I’m early.
What I most hope that Warhorse learned from the first game is to not have quests like A Needle in a Haystack. I know everybody and their grandma complains about that quest, but it can't be overstated how much of a slog it is.
I haven't gotten to that quest yet I'll keep it in mind.
It was a great quest - what do they need to learn from???
@@MythicDawn You might be the first person I've seen that likes that quest, but to each their own. It has been a while since I did it, but in my experience, I found it overlong, finicky, and easy to fail. A friend of mine stop playing KCD at that point because of that quest lol.
you should react to MrHardcoreMode
👍🏾👍🏾💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💪🏾💪🏾
Hopefully by the time im done KCD, this will be on sale. Would love to get this for like $40
Hopefully!
@SlanderedGaming as someone for which wasting time is my #1 dislike in games, i appreciate you pointing that out. If they do a better job in KCD2, I wouldn't mind full price, but I have a feeling a lot of their fans love that kind of realism, so I think it'll stay similar. Well see.
It looks good. I have reservations because at least one of the devs appeared to be a gruumz loving "anti woker"
He is but everybody has a perspective that somebody would disagree with. I'm not holding that against the whole studio or this game.
@@SlanderedGaming It worries me to see a dev essentially tearing down other devs, that sits very unwell with me.
@@jasonbryden8218 Yeah, very unprofessional behaviour from him. Sucks because the rest of the team seem chill (especially Henry's actor).
Well the difference is he is criticising on Twitter. The woke crowd is injecting their ideology in the game...
@@Molybdan42 There is no woke ideology. I repeat. There is no woke ideology. This is a made up bogeyman because demographics have changed. It's not woke to include someone non white or non male into a setting, but y'all really keep overreacting.
Some of the review videos, respectfully, are extremely biased and many reviewers didn’t even talk about the important stuffs (combat overhaul, stealth ai change, quest designs etc). A lot of them talk about nothing burgers
I think there's definitely a group that's biased towards KCD which is part of the reason I felt the need to make this video. Hopefully the sequel is great but let's keep things in perspective.
Foilage🤔🤔
It's annoying as all hell. LOL
@SlanderedGaming lol I hear you I get my twords wisted all the time
@@SlanderedGaming Intelligent comments and great vid - subbed. FYI - its pronounced foalage
Can't believe they use the same save system. There's no human being on earth who thought that it was a good system.
Not hard to save
Sleep in a bed will save or do what I do Quit and save game works
Yeah it's quite cumbersome but I'll be interested to see how they've improved it.
I don't like the survival part. I don't want my charecter have to eat or keep warm, or sleep. Other than that I will wait a whole new year before I start.
Are you an alien from men in black?
You'll never remember. 😀
@@SlanderedGaming Remember what
Definitely wouldnt buy the game within the first year of release on console.
Damn I didn't know the console release was that bad.
