Here's what gets me: this is -actual- historical accuracy. Some of the more good-faith criticisms of the *discourse* over KCD1--not the game itself, the discourse about it--highlighted that your average consumer doesn't actually know all that much about history beyond the basics, and that when they say "historical accuracy" they mean "my expectations for what this world at this time looked like," and what they're objecting to is expectancy violations. One of the things I had in my back pocket in grad school was trying to study how and when people object to historical "accuracy" or "inaccuracy" and what that says about what they actually...well, know. But it never got off the ground because there wasn't a budget for it. But I digress: what I think people are actually objecting to is that diversity and inclusion in many games are only, well, skin-deep. Remember how, in your Veilguard review, you detail how immersion-breaking and brain-scrambling it is that Tevinter just lets you walk around, armed, as an elf, in a slaveocracy that straight-up regards the majority of your people as chattel, and nobody even throws a stray "knife-ears" your way? And that literally nobody made a huge deal of a well-regarded military family adopting an *elf* as their heir if you're a shadow dragon? Now, from another angle, let's look back to Mass Effect: Andromeda. Let me get this straight, BioWare (heh): what are the politics of being gay or trans in Mass Effect again? Because like...okay, there's clearly equal integration in the service ranks, and there's clearly the genetic and reproductive technology available to allow for cheap, easy, reversible transition in-Universe, because we *clearly* see more complicated procedures being done to every single Alliance soldier who enlists, so. It should be a non-issue, right? Would we even really have the concept of "trans" as an identity, or would it be like getting your tonsils out? Now in comes KCD-II. Here's how I think this works: *normal* people want the game worlds that they play in to make sense, be internally consistent, and have reactivity. For example, in Crusader Kings III, your character may very well be gay, and you will play them as such, but unless you have a bucketload of money and power and/or leverage over Pope, you probably want to keep that under wraps, as it's extremely exploitable blackmail material if you're caught out with your boyfriend. Within the context of the WORLD, being a "sodomite" is a sin. However, and this is key: the game itself does not devalue homosexuality, nor communicate to you (the player) that it's bad to be gay. It's also--much like in history--sort of an open secret whenever someone is queer, because while capital punishment was used on gay people, it was applied inconsistently and mainly used whenever there was an inconvenient gay person someone wanted to get rid of. If the community liked the gay person in question, everyone would more or less collectively play dumb. It's no coincidence that when "sodomy" became considered a serious crime in Europe, it was mainly because heretical movements didn't persecute gay people, and so the Catholic Church used that charge to legitimize murderating the lot of them. What *not* normal people (GamerGaters, Grummz, etc) want is confirmation that Henry's not actually bisexual because they can conveniently ignore his bisexuality if they don't pick that romance path, as indicated by the part where they think he's "homosexual" if he romances that gentleman, ignoring his clear, repeated, obvious attraction to women in KCD-I. What they want is that it's a sort of non-canon, ignorable path, and that the developer thinks that same-sex attraction is, in and of itself, immoral, because that's what *they* think. What they want is not an internally consistent game world, but a fictionland in which their version of reality is defensible and legitimized, because it's not compatible with the real world. And I think Vavra kind of dug his own grave on this one; because when you market your game (KCD) as "for" a certain demographic, you're now dependent on that demographic, so when that demographic turns out to be completely insane, you're in trouble, and the only realistic path is capitulation because no amount of gay is going to make the left forgive you for GamerGate, especially if you're still extremely right wing, just more stable than Grummz (low bar).
@@SlanderedGaming in reality? No. In the minds of gamergaters? Yes. You have to remember, hardcore GG1 crowds did not live in *reality*, and were of a conspiratorial mindset. They took Daniel's lipservice of their values and t-shirt posts as "evidence" that he was a sort of "inside man" to them. Y'know how some hardcore BioWare "fans" will scream betrayal at David Gaider when David Gaider says things about Alistair or Morrigan that contradicts their headcanon? Same principle, except with GG-ers. So the reaction from GG-ers probably seems wildly disproportionate to us, but they take it as a personal betrayal because, in the story they've told themselves, their inside man bent the knee to woke and "betrayed" their alleged "alliance." An alliance which did not actually exist, but they made up in their heads. The problem is, Vavra never corrected them at any point, and was happy to lean on his alleged GG-cred for marketing reasons. On the one hand, you could call this just plain good business sense. Who wouldn't notice they have a demographic and market to that demographic, especially if you agree with them politically? It'd be like BioWare not marketing to millennial bisexuals with questionable AO3 tastes. The problem is that when the demographic in question includes straight-up, swastika-toting neo-Nazis, you sort of have to remember that they are actually dangerous and will turn on you the millisecond they think you "betray" them. I don't think he took the prospect of that threat seriously because it didn't occur to them that no, they're not joking. They actually are, to use his words, "nazi shitheads."
Daniel Vavra had two options: stay silent, or state his case. He chose the latter, and I think he handled himself as well as he could have with that option. It definitely feels like Grummz got his "leak" under coercion from a dev worried about public perception tanking the game, but linking it specifically to Daniel on the basis of the timing of the tweets is circumstantial evidence at best. I don't personally think Daniel would have bothered with his statement if he knew the "leak" would be coming out anyway. There is a poetic sense of completion, though, to see the anti-woke brigade gleefully jumping into wielding social media to pressure developers into bending the knee. The exact tactics they despised about the woke over the last decade. "You always become the thing you hate..." Is undefeated. The cancelled become the cancellers, and the pendulum swings.

The story of how Musa came to be in Sigismund's court is perfectly plausible. The medieval mindset didn't include the concept of race. Peasants might have been very curious and some even afraid, superstitious, etc--like they would for most outsiders. From there perspective, an Arab or East Asian or even central Asian might have been every bit as strange as a man from Mali. But for high functioning politicians like Sigismund and those around him it wouldn't have been a factor at all. Most people would have been much more concerned with his religion, not his race. Often people like Musa would have been "persuaded" to convert to Christianity before marrying a Christian and joining Sigismund's court, as having a Muslim in the court would have been disruptive, to say the least, and the pope wouldn't have taken to kindly to an arrangement where a Christian woman was allowed to marry a Muslim man, and no king would have wanted that kind of drama. For people in the nobility and royal courts at the time, marriage would have been mostly a business/political transaction. Sigismund would have (correction added after: MIGHT have) welcomed a marriage between one of his courtiers and one of the courtiers of the ottoman sultan in order to strengthen political ties between the two empires, thus helping to secure his southern flank.
I think that can't be emphasised enough: the issue with Musa would not have been his skin color, which Bohemians would have thought strange but not an object of contempt, so much as his religion, which would have been a very big deal; I doubt Musa would have lived long without the King's protection: not as an African but as an infidel. In Malory's Morte d'Arthur (ca, 1475) he has two "Saracen" (Arab) Knights of the Round Table, Sir Palomedes and Sir Safer, but both are converts to Christianity and therefore OK.

@ I agree lgbqt characters lately are written very poorly for some reason besides astarion in bg3. We have had some great gay characters is gaming though. Chloe from life is strange, gay Toney from gta 4, some side characters in mass effect and the Witcher. No gay characters would eliminate a lot of story potential in games. Plus games with poorly written gay characters usually have poorly written straight characters also because woke writers suck at their job for some reason
The issue is that these characters aren't poorly written because they're gay, they're poorly written because the writer in charge of them sucks. The problem with anti woke people is that they don't care whether the writing is poor or not, they just don't want to see gay or black people exist in media. Of course, saying that outright will raise a few eyebrows, so they hide these beliefs behind "forced diversity" and "DEI".

Be ready to arrive on scene with multiple attackers or the potential that no fight took place at all due to a malicious caller. - Your highly emotional response to a bad event? Take time to detach and assess that an emotional response is usually worse than the bad event that created it. - The political leader that promises to put tax budget into reduced housing costs? Be ready for them backpedal once they've grabbed your vote. - Your wife/husband that tells you that it was just an accidental kiss and nothing more? Be mindful that it can quickly turn into full blown cheating if it hasn't already. - That guy in the office that says they've finished the presentation due next week? Offer to proof read it for them to double-check they're not lying and planning to rush it all last minute. I think this is a classic case of money/influence-hungry people with a following on social media trying to profit/gain influence by over-blowing this situation and creating problems out of thin-air. Tabloid newspapers have done this for decades to generate money and influence, the gaming news landscape seems to have caught up to the malicious practice of invoking a negative emotional response in people to gain more views/sales in order to make a higher profit or build more of a following. Professional research & studies of any substance have extensive bibliographies and sources from a diverse range of evidence to minimize the author's risk of providing misinformation. Such journalism is rare nowadays and it is a shame that the vast majority of people (that aren't really bothered by something one black person being in the game/gay romance options that are entirely skippable), can be maliciously swayed if the news portrays the negative emotional backlash from such trivialities to be something that "most people" or "most gamers" feel which is false. I don't think this situation is going to affect sales because of the back-peddling that is currently taking place, but it's good to see which content creators are using malicious tactics to divide the gaming community for their own selfish profit & influence. Thank you Slandered for presenting this situation as clear as possible whilst making it clear when you're speaking from your own personal stance/bias. The integrity is appreciated and a breath of fresh air on this platform.
Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that a bunch of far-right agitators basically jumped on the (fake) news of a game being banned in an Islamic country due to it's religious laws and in a sense ended up agreeing with strict Islamic doctrine by now wanting to boycott that game themselves for the same reasons? That being said, it's a bit sad that Daniel Vavra caved to those idiots and felt he had to spill certain parts of the plot to dissuade people from thinking he might suddenly be woke or catering to a "modern audience", the horror! But after his relatively poor handling of the racism allegations around part 1, it's not that big of a surprise. And last but not least, all those crybabies who allegedly claim they won't buy the game now will probably buy it anyway, then cry a bit more if the one black person and the inclusion of gay people was indeed too black or too gay for them and after that, KC:D2 will still end up in most Game Of The Year lists.

Daniel could've handled it better, sure, at least on the tweeting side. But this internet hive mind of "omg a gay scene? woke BS, cancel this game" is so insufferable. Especially since these same dudes probably claim to be fans of DA:O, Mass Effect, Skyrim, etc. And this is coming from someone who did not like Sweet Baby either, was against Veilguard despite loving the DA franchise, and am cynical of things like playing a deaf minority side character in a Spider-Man game, etc. Trust me, I'm against pandering as much as the next guy. But an optional gay scene, even with Henry, in KCD2 is NOT pandering. That being said, PLEASE at least make the unskippable cutscenes PAUSABLE. PLEASE, Warhorse.
Simple. If a gay dude propositions Henry he can respond as he sees fit. The npcs should also respond according to local historical views. If the game is historically accurate as we are told then i welcome it as long as the gay character does not get exemptions unlike Henry.

Straight and simple: my decision to play this game will be based on how much I enjoy kcd1, which I will be trying out based on your recommendation. I'm also coming to you for gaming news more often, as you seem to be the big level head around these parts. Both sides are guilty of all this needless political strife and I'm sick of it. This whole thing is such bs. Games are art. If you don’t like it don’t buy it. I think the fact that people forget its an "RPG" and you make choices is hilarious. The whole thing about games these days are people feeling mad they don't get choices and get forced into a narrative they don't want. I'm not right or left wing, i'm more of non diplomatic kind of person, i just want to play good games, that don't force any sort of fucking agenda down your throat, be it religious, right, left, up or down kind of wing, just a good story, if it's historically accurate, then so be it, if it's fictional then go for it, but there is a fine line between making a game with a story and character's loosely based on real life scenarios, time and place, to a game masquerading as as one, but in and on it self, it's just a message they want to push down on you, aka dragon age the veilguard, i don't care if there is a gay character, trans, black white blue or pink in the game, if it doesn't make sense, and it's not seamlessly, it will be like a nail sticking out and it will ruin the gaming experience. in old Bioware games, and other studios, you had seamless gay characters, and a message being sent, in a more of a moral of the story kind of situations, where it would fit any character, be it gay, straight, man or woman, you are following that character's side of the story, and you get attached to it, cause you can imagine your self in it, or any other person, something that almost feels tangible in a gaming sense, but too many game studios / publishers are pushing their own agendas and using said games as propaganda mouth piece, to deliver THE MESSAGE. I'm sick and tired of that shit, let people enjoy the games, and if it doesn't have out of place black, gay, trans, and terminology / vocabulary of modern western society, then the game is bad according to these....journalists, i mean almost vast majority of them went on and praised dragon age the veilguard, "return to form, amazing game, like old school bioware games, better than dragon age origins" yea...that's just insane.

Serious question - at the end of the day, how much does all this manufactured drama actually translate to game sales? Because like Slandered says, the vast majority of players will judge this and any other game based on features like story, mechanics, progression, system requirements, and stability. Hell, if you're not a content creator who depends on reviewing games upon release, you shouldn't even be considering preorders & instant purchases given how normalized buggy releases and disguised early access titles have become. So, other than voice one's opinion, which everyone is free to do, why even give news like this attention?
Because it dictates how devs move and what they are willing to create. Grummz & Co. are attempting to create an ecosystem where all companies will be fearful of including black people, strong women, and pride content in their games. If you stay silent it feeds into the concept that they represent the majority and that more devs should listen to them. It's not really about sales it's straight up about what kinds of games will devs be willing to create.
Endymion was misleading with his thumbnails and titles, very negative and clickbaitey but he was wishy washy in the actual videos themselves and fence sitting. The worst offenders I have seen were Jon Del Arroz and John Trent (who also wrote those hitpiece articles on Fandom Pulse and his UA-cam is The Trent Report). I am not for cancellation, but if the consequences of their bs was cancellation I don't believe I'd shed any tears.

I think something good came out of this situation, in that both sides of the extremes outed themself as disgusting crybullies who will justify the worst behavior of those who agree with them. I hope this serves as a lesson to normal people not to fall into these extremes, even if they agree with some of the things they say. It certainly did for me toward the anti-woke crowd.

Also, I'd like to add, I'm very far left personally. Kingdom Come Deliverance is easily within the top five games I've ever played. And it is in constant competition to be in the top three. Politically I disagree with Daniel Vávra on many things I'm sure. However, I would give my left nut to work on a game with him. Even at the most Junior level. His philosophies on game design and what makes a game enjoyable and worthwhile to play all coincide with much of my own. As an aspiring game developer he is one of the key figures that I look up to right alongside Swen Vincke from Larian and Tim Cain the co-creator of Fallout.

I would be so disappointed, if the second game has easier combat than the first one... Considering that I was able to beat Ratay tournament on hard mode at lvl 7, using 1 hand and 2 buttons....... Also I am not really good at action games... (for example when I played Sekiro, I never defeated a single boss without dying at least 30 times...) Master strike and clinge brake were so broken and stupid that ruined the combat in the game for me... However, I heard that master strike is actually harder in the second game, so I am hopeful, since in my opinion this was what made the combat in the first one boringly easy. As for the drama: 1) I think that the ppl who think the game is not inclusive enough have sensitivity problems. 2) I think that the ppl who are mad about a black character in the game, or skippable optional gay scene need clinical treatment in a psych ward...

I can't blame Vavra too much for the way he handled the situation. He has a company's future and that of its employees to consider when dealing with PR issues, even if I would have personally handled it differently. It annoys me to no end how these people claim wokeness is what ails the video game industry, when the biggest problem is capitalism. Baldur's Gate 3 was one of the wokest games I've ever played, and it won game of the year and sold like gangbusters. What they don't want to admit is that the reason why modern media has "gone woke" is because the majority of the public doesn't hold their bigoted views, and these companies want to sell as many copies as they can to maximize profits. Their only real ideology is the worship of the almighty dollar.

I have been scoping many differing comment sections and suffice to say the phrase "live by bigotry die by the bigotry" applies. You court and boost these types of folks and this is the end result. A single black man and the option to be gay (one that mind you has consequences based on the ignorance of the times) has sent these people into a full on tail spin. Its wildly entertaining to witness it all.
The only thing I disagree with you on, is not every person against woke stuff is a bigot or right wing. There are issues that come from that stuff just like there are issues that caused that stuff to start in the first place.
I am so exhausted with gamergate 2, their endless hysterical screeching whenever any of their influencer grifters pump out another tantrum is not only pointless but constantly dragging the conversation away from issues that actually matter in the industry such as all the predatory monetization, plummeting quality and creativity for more higher priced products and crunch/mass firing culture emptying the industry of it's talent.

What they’re unhappy with is how vavra confirmed back in kid 1 that mc is canonically straight. Again this doesn’t affect me as I’ll won’t be doing it so I will simply see it as non-canon when I play.

Know your audience. The drama will only increase sales and I hope the game is good. You know how much I love KCD1.
I wonder how did people who "felt betrayed" and boycotted the game feel about Fallout New Vegas, Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect trilogy, Baldur's Gate series (not only third game), Skyrim, Morrowind, Bully, Fable and many many more older games which depicted same sex relationships at some point. This is what gets me annoyed: the people who are feeling outraged pretend that being gay in videogames is somewhat new phenomena, when it's not.

*Maybe* since even these options *existing* makes these folks say they will automatically opt out of the game, sight unseen, I wonder why they haven't opted out irl, since that option does certainly exist in the real world. Or are they all talk? I know what I personally hope they choose. Because just like in the real, this company has provided a plethora of choice in their narratives. If they end up in situations that make them uncomfortable, they should examine their choices. I agree with you Slandered should have left it at the first statement and just said I have confidence that the game will speak for itself, I think its crazy that people make a big deal about there being LGBQT stuff in any game, if the game is good who cares, hating on someone just because there different or have different beliefs then you I feel is inherently wrong and makes you look small in my eyes. I hope this game does well which I think it will even though Im not buying right away to many games on the back log and FF7 rebirth coming out in a few days, be awhile before i get to it.
I get they want to give us lots of choices but Henry being able to romance a man feels pretty out of character for me. Dan vavra really did not do a great job of dealing with all this drama

Especially considering you're noble in this game, they play by different rules. So maybe killing a especifically bigot authority should avoid that ending, stuff like that. I agree with everything here at face value. I don't really have a problem with Daniel's statement on its own but if he collaborated with Grumz after he defended a nazi, I really don't like that. But at the same time I will say this, not in response to any one thing but more to the undertone of both videos on the subject: not everyone who hates the "modern audience" stuff is a nazi. Even if more gay characters existed, who cares, gay people have existed throughout history in every culture and on every continent. It's not new. It would be unrealistic if we never saw gay characters in games ever.
That said, since when has the fact that something is *optional* stopped the anti-woke or frustrated men from whining or stop them from trying to get it removed? Tiny *options* in character creation, in other games, that almost no one uses, still enrages those nutjobs and they spam their comments on Steam non stop. Pronouns and non-binary characters are purely optional and are not a problem for the majority of people, yet does that stop them from raging?

I feel that my only issue was that the content was said to be not skipable. It should be the players choice if they choose to interact with or view any type of sexual content unless somehow the narrative your trying to tell some how non negotiable requires that you view the content which is a scenario I can't imagine occurring. It also causes potential issues with people wanting to stream or play your game with others cause you have to be pre prepped with censors.

Hmm...all of this is a nothing burger imo. People are making this out to be like DATV, which it is definitely NOT. Most of us who don't love politics being forced down our throats don't think this is a serious issue. Was it forced down your throat in DATV? I have preordered the game and am looking forward to it with trepidation mostly because I have grown a bit weary of massive open world RPGs but let's see. I wish people would complain more about the lack of a quick save options and the insistence on more saviour schnaps but that is too tame and does not get the views oh well.

I think right now gamers as a whole are suspicious of motives. Here's what gets me: this is -actual- historical accuracy. Some of the more good-faith criticisms of the *discourse* over KCD1--not the game itself, the discourse about it--highlighted that your average consumer doesn't actually know all that much about history beyond the basics, and that when they say "historical accuracy" they mean "my expectations for what this world at this time looked like," and what they're objecting to is expectancy violations. One of the things I had in my back pocket in grad school was trying to study how and when people object to historical "accuracy" or "inaccuracy" and what that says about what they actually...well, know. But it never got off the ground because there wasn't a budget for it. But I digress: what I think people are actually objecting to is that diversity and inclusion in many games are only, well, skin-deep.
Remember how, in your Veilguard review, you detail how immersion-breaking and brain-scrambling it is that Tevinter just lets you walk around, armed, as an elf, in a slaveocracy that straight-up regards the majority of your people as chattel, and nobody even throws a stray "knife-ears" your way? And that literally nobody made a huge deal of a well-regarded military family adopting an *elf* as their heir if you're a shadow dragon?
Now, from another angle, let's look back to Mass Effect: Andromeda. Let me get this straight, BioWare (heh): what are the politics of being gay or trans in Mass Effect again? Because like...okay, there's clearly equal integration in the service ranks, and there's clearly the genetic and reproductive technology available to allow for cheap, easy, reversible transition in-Universe, because we *clearly* see more complicated procedures being done to every single Alliance soldier who enlists, so. It should be a non-issue, right? Would we even really have the concept of "trans" as an identity, or would it be like getting your tonsils out?
Now in comes KCD-II. Here's how I think this works: *normal* people want the game worlds that they play in to make sense, be internally consistent, and have reactivity. For example, in Crusader Kings III, your character may very well be gay, and you will play them as such, but unless you have a bucketload of money and power and/or leverage over Pope, you probably want to keep that under wraps, as it's extremely exploitable blackmail material if you're caught out with your boyfriend. Within the context of the WORLD, being a "sodomite" is a sin. However, and this is key: the game itself does not devalue homosexuality, nor communicate to you (the player) that it's bad to be gay. It's also--much like in history--sort of an open secret whenever someone is queer, because while capital punishment was used on gay people, it was applied inconsistently and mainly used whenever there was an inconvenient gay person someone wanted to get rid of. If the community liked the gay person in question, everyone would more or less collectively play dumb. It's no coincidence that when "sodomy" became considered a serious crime in Europe, it was mainly because heretical movements didn't persecute gay people, and so the Catholic Church used that charge to legitimize murderating the lot of them.
What *not* normal people (GamerGaters, Grummz, etc) want is confirmation that Henry's not actually bisexual because they can conveniently ignore his bisexuality if they don't pick that romance path, as indicated by the part where they think he's "homosexual" if he romances that gentleman, ignoring his clear, repeated, obvious attraction to women in KCD-I. What they want is that it's a sort of non-canon, ignorable path, and that the developer thinks that same-sex attraction is, in and of itself, immoral, because that's what *they* think. What they want is not an internally consistent game world, but a fictionland in which their version of reality is defensible and legitimized, because it's not compatible with the real world.
And I think Vavra kind of dug his own grave on this one; because when you market your game (KCD) as "for" a certain demographic, you're now dependent on that demographic, so when that demographic turns out to be completely insane, you're in trouble, and the only realistic path is capitulation because no amount of gay is going to make the left forgive you for GamerGate, especially if you're still extremely right wing, just more stable than Grummz (low bar).

@@SlanderedGaming in reality? No. In the minds of gamergaters? Yes. You have to remember, hardcore GG1 crowds did not live in *reality*, and were of a conspiratorial mindset. They took Daniel's lipservice of their values and t-shirt posts as "evidence" that he was a sort of "inside man" to them. Y'know how some hardcore BioWare "fans" will scream betrayal at David Gaider when David Gaider says things about Alistair or Morrigan that contradicts their headcanon? Same principle, except with GG-ers. So the reaction from GG-ers probably seems wildly disproportionate to us, but they take it as a personal betrayal because, in the story they've told themselves, their inside man bent the knee to woke and "betrayed" their alleged "alliance." An alliance which did not actually exist, but they made up in their heads.
The problem is, Vavra never corrected them at any point, and was happy to lean on his alleged GG-cred for marketing reasons. On the one hand, you could call this just plain good business sense. Who wouldn't notice they have a demographic and market to that demographic, especially if you agree with them politically? It'd be like BioWare not marketing to millennial bisexuals with questionable AO3 tastes. The problem is that when the demographic in question includes straight-up, swastika-toting neo-Nazis, you sort of have to remember that they are actually dangerous and will turn on you the millisecond they think you "betray" them. I don't think he took the prospect of that threat seriously because it didn't occur to them that no, they're not joking. They actually are, to use his words, "nazi shitheads."
Daniel Vavra had two options: stay silent, or state his case. He chose the latter, and I think he handled himself as well as he could have with that option. It definitely feels like Grummz got his "leak" under coercion from a dev worried about public perception tanking the game, but linking it specifically to Daniel on the basis of the timing of the tweets is circumstantial evidence at best. I don't personally think Daniel would have bothered with his statement if he knew the "leak" would be coming out anyway.
There is a poetic sense of completion, though, to see the anti-woke brigade gleefully jumping into wielding social media to pressure developers into bending the knee. The exact tactics they despised about the woke over the last decade. "You always become the thing you hate..." Is undefeated. The cancelled become the cancellers, and the pendulum swings.
I would rather express myself with an expression from physics: "For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction force”
I really hope other devs see this situation and dismiss them next time.

The story of how Musa came to be in Sigismund's court is perfectly plausible. The medieval mindset didn't include the concept of race. Peasants might have been very curious and some even afraid, superstitious, etc--like they would for most outsiders. From there perspective, an Arab or East Asian or even central Asian might have been every bit as strange as a man from Mali.
But for high functioning politicians like Sigismund and those around him it wouldn't have been a factor at all. Most people would have been much more concerned with his religion, not his race. Often people like Musa would have been "persuaded" to convert to Christianity before marrying a Christian and joining Sigismund's court, as having a Muslim in the court would have been disruptive, to say the least, and the pope wouldn't have taken to kindly to an arrangement where a Christian woman was allowed to marry a Muslim man, and no king would have wanted that kind of drama.
For people in the nobility and royal courts at the time, marriage would have been mostly a business/political transaction. Sigismund would have (correction added after: MIGHT have) welcomed a marriage between one of his courtiers and one of the courtiers of the ottoman sultan in order to strengthen political ties between the two empires, thus helping to secure his southern flank.
I think that can't be emphasised enough: the issue with Musa would not have been his skin color, which Bohemians would have thought strange but not an object of contempt, so much as his religion, which would have been a very big deal; I doubt Musa would have lived long without the King's protection: not as an African but as an infidel.
In Malory's Morte d'Arthur (ca, 1475) he has two "Saracen" (Arab) Knights of the Round Table, Sir Palomedes and Sir Safer, but both are converts to Christianity and therefore OK.
Also, at the time in Islamic world science and medicine were relatively advanced, while food poisoning tradition in Europe got out of hand, so it makes a lot of sense for one of the most powerful monarchs in Europe to commission infidel healer whom he would treat with respect and no other noble man or woman hold sway over to plot poisoning.

I’m glad you clarified that most of us think this is stupid because it is. A lot of games lately are politically charged and I will die on that hill but a gay character isn’t woke. We’ve had gay characters for decades. People have been fed up with everything else and have a zero tolerance and I get that but no gay characters in any game would eliminate a lot of story potential plus it just isn’t woke

Chloe from life is strange, gay Toney from gta 4, some side characters in mass effect and the Witcher. No gay characters would eliminate a lot of story potential in games. The issue is that these characters aren't poorly written because they're gay, they're poorly written because the writer in charge of them sucks. The problem with anti woke people is that they don't care whether the writing is poor or not, they just don't want to see gay or black people exist in media. Of course, saying that outright will raise a few eyebrows, so they hide these beliefs behind "forced diversity" and "DEI".

The worst part of all of this is that as soon a discussion about inclusivity or lack thereof, the makers of the product have already lost. You're going to have vocal opposition on either side and whichever way you pivot you will anger a group. I personally choose not to listen to either side. If I enjoy the product, I purchase it. Human beings are not evolved to the point to take in the opinions of every other human being on the planet. This is why I choose to pay this stuff no mind. There's a saying in military leadership that I use in my own job and apply to life in general: Always assume the first report is false in some way
It's important to take the first report as a strong possibility, but make sure to plan for contingencies as the true picture unfolds.
- The 999 call saying a person is under attack by one guy? Be ready to arrive on scene with multiple attackers or the potential that no fight took place at all due to a malicious caller.
- Your highly emotional response to a bad event? Take time to detach and assess that an emotional response is usually worse than the bad event that created it.
- The political leader that promises to put tax budget into reduced housing costs? Be ready for them backpedal once they've grabbed your vote.
- Your wife/husband that tells you that it was just an accidental kiss and nothing more? Be mindful that it can quickly turn into full blown cheating if it hasn't already.
- That guy in the office that says they've finished the presentation due next week? Offer to proof read it for them to double-check they're not lying and planning to rush it all last minute.
I think this is a classic case of money/influence-hungry people with a following on social media trying to profit/gain influence by over-blowing this situation and creating problems out of thin-air. Tabloid newspapers have done this for decades to generate money and influence, the gaming news landscape seems to have caught up to the malicious practice of invoking a negative emotional response in people to gain more views/sales in order to make a higher profit or build more of a following.
Professional research & studies of any substance have extensive bibliographies and sources from a diverse range of evidence to minimize the author's risk of providing misinformation. Such journalism is rare nowadays and it is a shame that the vast majority of people (that aren't really bothered by something one black person being in the game/gay romance options that are entirely skippable), can be maliciously swayed if the news portrays the negative emotional backlash from such trivialities to be something that "most people" or "most gamers" feel which is false. I don't think this situation is going to affect sales because of the back-peddling that is currently taking place, but it's good to see which content creators are using malicious tactics to divide the gaming community for their own selfish profit & influence.

Am I the only one who finds it hilarious that a bunch of far-right agitators basically jumped on the (fake) news of a game being banned in an Islamic country due to it's religious laws and in a sense ended up agreeing with strict Islamic doctrine by now wanting to boycott that game themselves for the same reasons? That being said, it's a bit sad that Daniel Vavra caved to those idiots and felt he had to spill certain parts of the plot to dissuade people from thinking he might suddenly be woke or catering to a "modern audience", the horror! But after his relatively poor handling of the racism allegations around part 1, it's not that big of a surprise.
And last but not least, all those crybabies who allegedly claim they won't buy the game now will probably buy it anyway, then cry a bit more if the one black person and the inclusion of gay people was indeed too black or too gay for them and after that, KC:D2 will still end up in most Game Of The Year lists.

You're right that Kcd2 is bigger than them and would have been successful without them, just like BG3 was successful without catering to them. in old Bioware games, and other studios, you had seamless gay characters, and a message being sent, in a more of a moral of the story kind of situations, where it would fit any character, be it gay, straight, man or woman, you are following that character's side of the story, and you get attached to it, cause you can imagine your self in it, or any other person, something that almost feels tangible in a gaming sense, but too many game studios / publishers are pushing their own agendas and using said games as propaganda mouth piece, to deliver THE MESSAGE.

Serious question - at the end of the day, how much does all this manufactured drama actually translate to game sales? Because like Slandered says, the vast majority of players will judge this and any other game based on features like story, mechanics, progression, system requirements, and stability. Hell, if you're not a content creator who depends on reviewing games upon release, you shouldn't even be considering preorders & instant purchases given how normalized buggy releases and disguised early access titles have become.
So, other than voice one's opinion, which everyone is free to do, why even give news like this attention?
Because it dictates how devs move and what they are willing to create. Grummz & Co. are attempting to create an ecosystem where all companies will be fearful of including black people, strong women, and pride content in their games. If you stay silent it feeds into the concept that they represent the majority and that more devs should listen to them. It's not really about sales it's straight up about what kinds of games will devs be willing to create.
Endymion was misleading with his thumbnails and titles, very negative and clickbaitey but he was wishy washy in the actual videos themselves and fence sitting. The worst offenders I have seen were Jon Del Arroz and John Trent (who also wrote those hitpiece articles on Fandom Pulse and his UA-cam is The Trent Report). I am not for cancellation, but if the consequences of their bs was cancellation I don't believe I'd shed any tears.

I think something good came out of this situation, in that both sides of the extremes outed themself as disgusting crybullies who will justify the worst behavior of those who agree with them. Politically I disagree with Daniel Vávra on many things I'm sure. However, I would give my left nut to work on a game with him. Even at the most Junior level. His philosophies on game design and what makes a game enjoyable and worthwhile to play all coincide with much of my own. As an aspiring game developer he is one of the key figures that I look up to right alongside Swen Vincke from Larian and Tim Cain the co-creator of Fallout.

I would be so disappointed, if the second game has easier combat than the first one... Considering that I was able to beat Ratay tournament on hard mode at lvl 7, using 1 hand and 2 buttons....... Also I am not really good at action games... (for example when I played Sekiro, I never defeated a single boss without dying at least 30 times...) Master strike and clinge brake were so broken and stupid that ruined the combat in the game for me... However, I heard that master strike is actually harder in the second game, so I am hopeful, since in my opinion this was what made the combat in the first one boringly easy.
As for the drama:
1) I think that the ppl who think the game is not inclusive enough have sensitivity problems.
2) I think that the ppl who are mad about a black character in the game, or skippable optional gay scene need clinical treatment in a psych ward...
From what I've heard combat is more simplified and yet deeper. Take that as you will. LOL

I can't blame Vavra too much for the way he handled the situation. He has a company's future and that of its employees to consider when dealing with PR issues, even if I would have personally handled it differently. It annoys me to no end how these people claim wokeness is what ails the video game industry, when the biggest problem is capitalism. Baldur's Gate 3 was one of the wokest games I've ever played, and it won game of the year and sold like gangbusters. What they don't want to admit is that the reason why modern media has "gone woke" is because the majority of the public doesn't hold their bigoted views, and these companies want to sell as many copies as they can to maximize profits. Their only real ideology is the worship of the almighty dollar.

Especially considering you're noble in this game, they play by different rules. So maybe killing a especifically bigot authority should avoid that ending, stuff like that. Even if more gay characters existed, who cares, gay people have existed throughout history in every culture and on every continent. It's not new. It would be unrealistic if we never saw gay characters in games ever.

I feel that my only issue was that the content was said to be not skipable. It should be the players choice if they choose to interact with or view any type of sexual content unless somehow the narrative your trying to tell some how non negotiable requires that you view the content which is a scenario I can't imagine occurring. It also causes potential issues with people wanting to stream or play your game with others cause you have to be pre prepped with censors.
If the creator thinks that content is important, that's up to them. You don't get to pick and choose with art, respect their vision!

@SlanderedGaming in Russia you can't buy games in Steam because of sanctions. I bought first KCD with all dlc but only after I tried pirate version.
Hmm...all of this is a nothing burger imo. People are making this out to be like DATV, which it is definitely NOT. Most of us who don't love politics being forced down our throats don't think this is a serious issue. Was it forced down your throat in DATV? Absolutely and now the director is pulling bharvs but most of us just want to play a game and escape and KCD2 seems to achieve that. I don't know if Vávra capitulated to something or not but let's be honest, KCD2 is NOT a game that progressive people will have an interest in so just in terms of marketing, if he DID do that, it would make sense just like the primary customerbase for DATV was progressives and people who align with those ideologies. I have preordered the game and am looking forward to it with trepidation mostly because I have grown a bit weary of massive open world RPGs but let's see. I wish people would complain more about the lack of a quick save options and the insistence on more saviour schnaps but that is too tame and does not get the views oh well.
The savior snaps is like that for a reason and it’s not hard to get them plus there are beds everywhere. It was never an issue for me except the first 10 hours out of 150

Everything I've seen says the game will be amazing.
I think right now gamers as a whole are suspicious of motives. This does not excuse blatant hate such as the "Nazi guy", "spear chucker studios guy", etc. With everything surrounding forced inclusion and questionable writing in the industry, there was no point in putting out that vague ass original statement. Doing that makes it look like there is something to hide even though there wasn't. Had he actually explained things like he did in his new statement, he likely would not even be in this situation now.
Daniel has a VERY long track record of making games. To be suspicious of his motives now after 20+ years of development doesn't make any sense.
Some gamers are suspicious of game devs having opinions.
It's not really a "situation" a majority of the people who will buy the game have never engaged with gamer politics
