I’m sad to see the closure of TVC but you are doing a cracking job of keeping us nostalgia enthusiasts entertained in their place. Thank you.

As one of those who helped run and populate TV Cream (in my case from around 1999) it’s very touching to see this video tribute. Thanks for pulling it together and for mining the outer reaches of TV Cream content too.

The Advent Crowd was the hardest piece to find, until I remembered how straightforward the url was

I found TVC in about 97 and I spent hours being entertained with articles about things I thought only I remembered. I also appreciated the usage of the ATV logo… something I treasure so much I have it tattooed on my arm. For nostalgia and other reasons. Thank you Jack.

As the last star dies out, as entropy increasingly fills the space between, as the universe plunges into an eternal deep freeze, there will still be the echoes of the 8 notes of a slightly out-of-tune Spanish guitar...
I never really went to TV Cream much, which is surprising, considering how much of an old British TV nerd I've become over the years, a lot of that is honestly thanks to you, Matthew. Hell, you're one of the inspirations for the way I write, and for getting a media degree. In a way, I guess TV Cream indirectly got me off my ass and actually creating things that I love and that people will enjoy remembering. Never realized that until today. Kind of impressive for a website that was older than I am. Shame the entire site is getting deleted...as with so many things in life, Peter Davidson sums it up in his hauntingly innocent tone: "There should have been another way..."

Now we need an internet equivalent of Talking Pictures TV to help carry on their legacy.

The astonishing thing for me is that TV Cream actually outlasted Southern Television (27 years versus 26).

First discovered TV Cream through a link on the Need To Know website and stayed with it.
Remember the impassioned notice their webhost put on the front page when the site was in trouble for hosting TV themes, Creamup newsletter, the excellent books (in particular the Tuckshop book which despite its title was an in-depth look at the soft drinks, snacks, confectionery etc. markets) and so much more.
Thank you for TV Cream for what you've done over the years as it has been appreciated by many. Rest well as you've deserved it. :-)

Only vaguely familiar with this, TV ARK being my time waster in Year 14 in the very brief period when we lived in one of the posher areas. And they've already died and come back to life at least once.
About a decade later, and disappearing down a rabbit hole of idents one night, the algorithm plonked me in front of the original ITV in the Face, and its succinct round up of The Troubles in the UTV episode. "Despair, Despair, Despair, Despair, Despair, Despair, Despair, Despair, Despair..."
But it is still sad. As some bloke said, "It's always sad when part of your childhood dies." Something something nostalgia, something something internet, something something capitalism.

I had no idea this was happening. I never thought it possible, but it's hit me in the guts. TV Cream was the first website I used to 'properly' visit on a regular basis, back in 1999. It fired up my passion for achrive tv and pop culture in general even more than it already was. And their brilliant books served as partial inspiration for our Scarred For Life books. First Network, now TV Cream gone too. Bugger.

Network's demise could have been avoided. The death of founder Tim Beddoes was a tragic loss, but the remaining team spent the companies last 6 months running like headless chickens, rather than sitting down trying to figure things out. Releasing a 94 Disc Crossroads boxset, AKA The Nolly Folly, was the beginning of the end for the company.

TV Cream's demise is absolutely heartbreaking and they flew the flag for all things nostalgic. When I was Cumbria: Institute of the Arts, I'd frequent their site and TVARK rather than doing some boring core module like Photography and Meaning. 20 years later, I help run and add stuff to TVARK. Is there a terminology for backing the right horse all along and you didn't even realise it?
But, I even have a couple of books that TV Cream published. One on toys and one on tuck shops. I'll cherish and guard them with my life!

I like to think we’re keeping the spirit of TV Cream alive in these videos. It led to Christmas Wrapping and that in turn led me to my research on the subject. My only regret is I wish I had started it 20 years ago when all the key people were still alive.
I do hope the Christmas logs continue at least. I always look forward to them. Nevertheless, it absolutely should be archived and not deleted in any way.

Let alone "Buchan", I remember Nandemoyuko... and the fact (not a real fact) that the javascript code for one of the buttons on The Arkive was apparently coded by Danni Minogue. "Thanks, Danni!", they acknowledged.
Somewhere a crude CG Pillsbury Doughboy Bishop is weeping in idents...

Unfortunately this is what happens when even nostalgia moves on.
The other sad thing is that nostalgia becomes more and more Americanised, there are probably more young'uns in Britain today who are more familiar with EBS than with TSW and that's sad.

    • @stuartkenny7430
      @stuartkenny7430 Місяць тому +1

@@GeoNeilUK I was discussing this with a friend the other day. The death of TV Cream made me wonder if nostalgia is dying, or more accurately, OUR nostalgia is dying and being replaced by nostalgia from 15-20 years ago? Where people are less likely to remember Timmy Mallet and Count Duckula, and they'll remember the likes of Digimon and Avril Lavigne.

Oh, and the Christopher Robbie footage is possibly owned by Renown Pictures/Talking Pictures TV, as they've got a lot of the remains of Southern Television's archive that exists. Except How, Worzel Gummidge and Out of Town.

I was a fan of TVC. I used to love their forums. Me and a few others tried to get another forum going.
