- This is the great bass virtuoso Oscar Petiford from 1959. Here he plays the cello pizzicato style in a jazz format. He was truly one of the greats of modern jazz. This tune is from the album "Vienna Blues: The Complete Sessions". I was unable to upload the photo of that album cover so I used this one from his 1957 recording with a full orchestra. My apologies for that.
Lineup:
Oscar Petiford: Cello
Hans Koller: Tenor Sax
Jimmy Pratt: Drums
Attila Zoller: Bass
Now I know where our family gets its love of music! We have a lot of talent such as my uncle Oscar!
Oscar's each notes of his solo poerformance are very great.
very swinging and melodic solo from the great Oscar Pettiford
Who is Hans Koller? Sounds like a boss between Getz and Konitz. German?? Recorded in Germany? Austria?
This is awesome!!!...If you don't believe me...just close your eyes...and listen. Thanks beeshor1
Much thanks!
Boy, that's a tasty tenor!
名曲ジェローム・カーンの"ALL THE THINGS YOU ARE"~御大オスカー・ペティフォードのベースが、低く低く鳴り響く"イン・ハイ・ファイ"が聴きたくなった! #jazzm

@wohodude100: Should I answer by saying that Americans must learn how to play straight and legitimate before they can do classical music? Or that whites shouldn't play the blues because they have no feeling for it? That blacks shouldn't play waltzes? No, it's too silly.
Damn those Europeans need to learn how to swing, oscar pettiford is the only cat swinging on the record
