    I was there for that concert ... Stayed in a converted rail car for accommodation, one of the best week of music events I was ever to attend

    Back in Berklee days...there was a Joe Pass/Oscar Peterson show at Symphony Hall. Oscar Peterson didn't show or whatever and Joe just came out by himself and played solo like this....wow!

Caracterizado por su uso del walking bass, del contrapunto melódico en medio del curso de una improvisación y de un estilo melódico de acordes, se trata de uno de los más alabados guitarristas de jazz, tanto por la crítica como por sus compañeros de profesión, a algunos de los cuales sirvió de eficiente acompañante en distintos trabajos.

    They say he didn't like the tone of that guitar because there was too much high end. The pickup is a little farther from the bridge than on other axes.
    Sounds really good to me.

    Do not kid yourself. Joe knew his theory; the thing is he had developed to the point where he could allow himself to forget it and just play. In much the same way as you don't count your verbs, nouns, etc when talking. Joe was also a brilliant sight-reader.

      @@pablo80955 Because when Joe was learning modes were not really taught. Read his book Joe Pass Guitar Style. You will see that he had a full understanding of theory.
      My guitar teacher was a student of Joes for 5 years. He told me joe was a mountain of knowledge when it came to music theory.

      There are no mistakes in jazz, it's called improvisation. He augmented that note to add some extra spiciness, you can see how much he's sweating. So spicy; one whom doesn't love a good spicy curry does not share my tastes.

    Virtuoso, Virtuoso4, Virtuoso Live, Montreau75, Maybe..Virtuoso2...great version of "on Green Dolphin Street).
    Montreau 75 was shot in video too..some of the videos are on youtube...check out his version of Nuages...and if you like uptempo numbers..check out his version of The Song is You.... the audio version of Cherokee......and not solos..but his stuff with NHOP are fantastic...and his version of Autumn Leaves with Sarah Vaughan is amazing too. They are on youtube.

      @@daha5210 No, Guthrie can't play what Joe Pass did. Not even close. The patterns Joe used are more difficult than the note choise of GV. To understand this take while, Believe me, I was like you, but shredders cant play like this.

    His sense of phrasing is untouchable, but what really seperates Joe from the pack is the hidden counterpoint that links the chords and soloistic material, as well as infusing swing into his archane harmonies.. I hope his solos are anthologized like Parker's "Omnibook" so we can see his musical genious and study rather than copy it.

    Joe's one problem: he never really learned his way around the guitar neck. It was constant hit and miss. The amount of mistakes he makes really shows his....I'M KIDDING! It's sickening how well he knew the guitar!

    its the 2-5 going to the real 2, so its 3-6-2-5.
    and the 3 mostly sounds like a 1 chord so its kind of a 1-6-2-5.

      It appears from the headstock shape and body to be an Ibanez jp20 signature model Joe pass guitar.. it began being produced around 1980 .
