I beat the hell out of my SRK - it was my go-to outdoors knife for years. It put up with everything and never let me down. It's an amazing knife. I'll have to check this out. Thanks!
I just bought one of these today after months of looking at all the different budget options. I researched quite a few but kept coming back to this one. Can't wait to get it!
Thanks Brian. The SRK is a great knife... not caring about other opinions. If I had a chance to do it, back in my Army days, I would have loved to have carried it over the LMF that was issued to us. The Taiwan SK5 is okay as a steel for it and just a few passes on the worksharp always brings that spring steel right back to shaving sharp. This compact model seems like a great little Bushcraft beater blade... Will have to pick me up some for a few scouts that I work with. For your viewers out there.... Grizzly Outdoors makes a great little Ferro rod and holder that fits perfectly to that knife sheath. It makes a great combo.
Nice presentation. Have had the SRK Compact for about two years now. A well designed and manufactured knife. The full size SRK model is also among the knives I own. Both are great, but I do tend to carry and use the Compact more often. Just the right size for most applications for a field knife. I live in some dense woods and a solid fixed blade knife is something I always have on my belt.
Great demo Brian. I like that knife for it's compactness, yet it can still do some of the bigger knife stuff, such as batoning. I remember when you harvested that piece of fatwood. Being the good woodsman you are you didn't take all of it. You left the biggest part of it saying you will save it for later. It has been so long ago they probably built a subdivision of patio homes over the area the fatwood stump was. Thanks for making my day a little bit better.
i picked up a srk-c for a edc/ppk ... came out of the box insanely sharp, very pleased with it .. i have been doing cold steel since around 89 and they have never let me down.
Hi Brian and hello from Australia. Great video. I have the 6” blade SRK, it’s a good knife. I think I will get the compact one as well now. Could you do a video on knife throwing. I think it would be interesting. Best wishes.
Man! ...The InnerWeb is a truly magical place! I got a fella to do some rough woodwork from 4 Stated away, just by pecking out a snarky comment!😁👍 I love Cold Steel's products. I'm no blade expert. And I'm a bit of a cheapskate. But I think CS seems to be the best bang for buck that I've found. Equal to, or better than Schrade, at least. I've settled on the iconic Recon Tanto to fulfill most of my Tacti-Tard and Campground Survivalist Larping needs. A+
If Gerber had made their strongarm blade a tad longer,I think it would be even better too but Id like to have seen it in better steel like com 3v or 80crv2 carbon steel since they did do a awesome job on heat treatment an it's made here in America, just saying in my ramblings, thanks Brian
i like my SRK C, it is a KNIFE, for cutting, use the right tool for the job, if you need to split wood use an ax or machete, not a belt knife.. and throwing a specific throwing knife, if you throw your knife, you just disarmed yourself.... make a spear...
I've read a review and also watched a video about sheathe and yes in fact it does dull the blade a little bit. It is recommended to change it for leather or something similar. But I think if you are careful pulling your knife out (pulling it so your spine side of blade makes contact with the sheathe) it should be still ok.
@@joshashe2087 Actually it doesn’t dull mine hasn’t after 50 pulls they aren’t meant to at all if this happens you have a bad sheath you’ll get a new one from cold steel
The SRK-C is another Home Run for CS and for $35 you can't complain if you break the Tip Off by Throwing it Repeatedly..🤭🤣. Hopefully, they make it in some better Steels soon , like it's Bigger Brother , so you don't have to worry about the Tip , CMP-3V would be Great ..Thanks Brian ....👍🖖
If you had thrown the San Mai version of cpm 3v,I believe the tip wouldn't have broken if thrown,I've seen a guy test it an torture test it,he lives in Austria, tough knife, that version anyway,I've seen it go through car doors an what not,not that you need your knife to do that, but it is a search an rescue knife an tool depends on who's hands it's in an what application plan on using it for.
The Cold Steel SRK has steel made in Germany. I believe that it's handles are made in Taiwan, as is its sheath. It is a nice knife, but for survival purposes,, I would lean more towards the Morakniv Carbon Garberg. It's a little more stout, but tough! And it keeps a very keen edge!
Great little EDC But for some reason mine was a pain in the butt to sharpen and keep sharp.. Ive re-profiled it with a much steeper edge.. Ive started to EDC it again.. PS.... does anyone know if it comes in a stainless version ?
I got Cold Steel SRK CARBON V gift from Adam Equip 2 Endure got his name on it and Paul Scheiter Creator of BLACKBIRD SRK5 on it.. soon i put my name on it.. SUPER SHARP.. LOVE IT.. CARBON V is awesome..
This would be a great choice for sure but I just picked up a Mora bushcraft with the fire steel and sharpener set up. In the desert fde color I'm lovin it. Hard choice which is better. But both great choices. I'll probably grab this one as well.
Hello Bryan and thanks for the video. I've had some nice knives break at my balance testing lab also. I now only throw designated throwers and hawks. I too love me some fat women.
It is privet, I cut it down. The bark you heard was probably Kuma ;-)..... Sorry, you just left that one hanging there over the plate, I had to take a swing at it.
@@SurvivalOnPurpose After the privet which was the smooth bark. The rough bark you said you did not recognize. I think all your viewers should recognize Kuma :)
Hi Brian 🙂 .. I love the "SRK" series from "Cold Steel" they are very good multipurpose knives . I recommend everyone also "Patrol" series of the Spanish brand "Miguel Nieto" are made with leaves 11 and 14.5 in length , steel AN-58 , Full-Tang , 5mm thick , mangos Micarta and wood and are presented in some cases pretty high quality leather ... greetings to all from Barcelona (Spain) 🌲🌲🌲🪵🔪🙂
I would've rather cold steel had made the handle a actual full Tang instead of that stick tang but from of there footage from people owning these knives torture test, the rubber was the only thing that didn't survive but the blade an tip did,so personal preference on that I guess
This is nice knife, the only mistake is, that it does not have any reinforcement at the bottom of the handle which should be usable for breaking nuts or even like small hammer for smaller nails or pins. Taiwan is China :D :D

Good show. I love this little knife. I bought one a year ago and paid about the same price. It's a tough handy knife that works like a big knife.
I've got quite a few knives but my main Combat shtf apocalypse knife is the combat proven SRK. Damn good knife for the $.
Good budget entry point knife for beginners

Cold Steel makes excellent stuff
Thank you for another another excellent video
With its thinner blade, clip point profile and light weight, it is DEFINITELY a combat knife! I use it for this purpose only.

I've got the SRK and love it! This little brother is kinda nice! 🤔🇺🇸

Was looking to buy one of these last year but they were out of stock. Ordered the full sized. Still need to get this.
I trust coldsteel brand over any other knife company.
Wish they'd give the recon tanto the compact treatment in this size
I found this model to be a bit thin in the handle and thick behind the edge for my preference, but it makes for a solid car knife.
Thanks Brian. I love the Recon tanto and SRK. I have been looking at this one.
My favorite EDC fix blade 😎
I do like how the handle feels on it.
I hope they start making the compact in CPM-3V.

The false edge on top is where the real power is for striking a ferro rod.
I like knives made in the COUNTRY😉 of Taiwan, I trust the quality way more than a CHINA made knife.
This knife looks fun especially the price point.
Pretty good knife , especially for the price
They should do a compact recon tanto
respect for pointing out it's made in taiwan , not china
Does the sheath with this dull the knife ? Just curious I’ve just gotten one and I wanna know

No, it doesn’t come from Germany. SK5 comes from Japan. The only steel that I know CS sources from Germany is that crappy 4116 stainless.
Mine is in carbon V and made in the USA.

Its a full LENGTH over molded stick tang. Its NOT standard full tang like a Bark River or Randal Made , or ESEE
