At&t will be hard to explain because cingular actually bought at&t and then changed their name to at&t after the bought it. A lot of people think at&t brought cingular because of the name change. Lol. Sorry if I confused you. Lol
Just saw this on the replay Sneed! You covered it all to my recollections. I do remember here in NJ when the main telephone company we had was called New Jersey Bell. I imagine NYC had something similar before Verizon took over! I'm assuming this must have happened right after the break up of AT&T. Am I correct Sneed in my assumption? Looking back on the break up though before Verizon took over, do you think we're better off for it in 2019? What do you think sir?
Verizon just slowed me to 0.03 mbps with full bars on a tower that gave me 80 mbps the very next test. May just file a complaint with the FCC like you did
OMG Cingular I remember that company my dad had a Nokia with the logo of Cingular on it it had great coverage my dad had to go outside of the house to call it wasn't until AT&T bought centennial that coverage improved here like from barely two bars outside to like 4 or 5 bars even indoors
My mom had Verizon I remember she an Samsung flip phone man I wish Verizon stayed here Puerto Rico but no in 2005 they decided to sell both the Dominican Republic and the Puerto Rico branch to America mobile (Claro) which it a bad company in terms of customer service and network quality like their network is huge it's the second largest carrier in terms of coverage but my do they have spotty coverage like you can lose LTE in the middle of a town for no reason and to this date a lot of rural spots in Puerto Rico still run on on Hspa+ or UMTS
I've been with Verizon since 1999, which is when they really first started. I had been with LA Cellular since 1995 and Verizon bought them out in 1999. I know something about the real history of all of this ( internet itself, then Cellular, then low satellite TBA). I always want to leave Verizon cause of the high cost, but I believe they're the most reliable so I don't leave. I think game changer will be low level satellite so all can have 4g LTE in the whole world at no extra cost. The military is trying to take credit for this inception, but it wasn't them.
@@realsmt So, think I'm safe to leave Verizon? You probably don't want to say, that's ok. I worry about remote areas where no other service ( been there). I'm in Golden handcuffs. I know they're big and greedy, but aren't they all? TMobile has this new trial for new customers for 1 mo free, with nothing to lose. Maybe I'll try. But they have their problems too.
So Verizon is just a piece of old AT&T with a red coat of paint? Neat.
I’m glad someone is doing a history lesson on the history of the cell phone companies
I did one on att also. Sprint coming soon.
I have been a Verizon customer since the fall of 2001. Your synopsis was very good.
Forgot to mention at the time of the gte merger they also bought nynex and part of atell
Verizon has a lot of history.
Sneed , very informative video, Thanks and would like to see the rest of history, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint...

You did a great job on the video, I forgot about their fries and XLTE from years ago
Yes absolutely I will be watching nice series

One vote for att 😁
I think I learned more here than in my astronomy class

Absolutely Michael! Remember, Sneed is a school teacher!! 👍😁
The merger also included airtouch as well as Bell Atlantic and GTE
They actually formed as a merger of Bell Atlantic Mobile, AirTouch Cellular and PrimeCo

I believe there are 7 bells out of the big break up so you are probably right.
I had West Virginia Wireless for a while before they bought them as well.
very good information thank you for your service and your knowledge a cellular phones in general thanks Snead
Love the intro music to your vids sneed 👍🏻👍🏻
You missed primeco. It was part of the BAM (bell Atlantic Mobile) merger
I know you said you weren't gonna go super far back, but I still think that you should have mentioned the atlantic bell/vodafone division merger
Great video Sneed.

Soooo basically Verizon use to be apart of AT&T as a baby bell, but now has grown up to be bigger, stronger, and better than AT&T
In wireless, yes.
Sneed Mobile Tech very interesting.
Verizon did well to drop Vodafone

I had alltel and then Verizon gobbled them up, and my account. 😄
