Hey everyone, you probably noticed that unlike our normal videos, I ended up splitting this one into two parts. Otherwise it would've been around 40 minutes (which imo is just too long for a video like this). So we'll be coming back soon with Part 2, which like I said, will mostly be about the ride's changes post-opening, but also going back and mentioning some of the stuff I brought up in this one. Expect that video sooner rather than later. Thanks again!
What really hits home about this is how deep the ideas for the original EPCOT Centre were, and how much thought they put into the meaning and message of the attractions. Now, they just match up the most popular modern films to a suitable exisiting ride system. There's no thought put into them at all. And that's why they're inferior. Epcot was from a time when theme parks were still an art form and Disney were still artists.
really fantastic job digging up that Expo 67 material....this is a long-obscured fact about Spaceship Earth and Epcot in general that for some reason gets overlooked or avoided altogether.
18:35 I know you meant it as in "Concept art for Spaceship Earth, too." But for some reason, my brain just went "no vvay, they're making a second Spaceship Earth?!?"
My fav. must ride 1st attractions! First in 2002. I went "around it" in 2001 on monorail after a lonnng day. When I was 15 yrs. old, I was enchanted by this structure & its creation. Even replicating it in a model 4 a science fair project in Houston, TX. I won a ribbon 4 it! There are many great buildings I visited (The gateway Arch in St. Louis) being yet another fine example of "over the top" engineering.
Whoooaaaaa... the "storylight" transitional effects they want to add to the new version was *kind of* in the original script all the way back in the late 1970s!
@@bsdude010 it's just untactful, especially with Germans in the park. We are acutely aware of our history, and Germans would not have been happy with his appearance. Also having his voice blend with the other's to make the "Universal Man" just makes it even worse. I went to a museum in New Zealand, where they had a hughe picture of him, together with the flag, which just felt weird, almost like people were worshipping him

I went to WDW for the first time last year, and this may have been my favorite attraction of all the parks. It's one of the few that have that very classic Disney feel, as well as being educational. Was definitely nice as my last ride at the end of the night at Epcot to unwind, especially right after riding "Mission:Space"
The Bell System wasn't just some phone company in the 1980s; it was pretty much THE only phone company of America for over a hundred years and was founded by Alexander Graham Bell, the literal inventor of the telephone. They completely dominated telecommunications in the US and Canada to such a monopolistic degree that the government finally had to break up the company in the 80s, and parts of it became some companies that you may have heard of: Verizon and AT&T.
I absolutely love spaceship earth but I learned the hard way that I have to ride it at the beginning of my day cause if I ride it on my way out when I'm exhausted, that beginning scene when it makes you lie down as it gets darker and darker....puts me right to sleep.
I've never been a big fan of Spaceship Earth but I do give it credit for one thing. The backwards part of the ride gives the most accurate example of what my vertigo filled dizzy spells feel like.
Back when Expo 67 was opening, there was an exhibit travelling the US to advertise the Expo. If I remember right, United Airlines sponsored it and the seats were "the same" as on their new Wide-body 747's!! The exhibit was inside a large, inflatable, bubble dome that had to be 60 to 80 feet across (maybe bigger!) and could swallow up lots of people for each show. The exhibit came to a mall in my town, The Garden State Plaza, and was set up in the south lot. We went, and waited on line for quite a while on the Saturday it was there. It was worth the wait!! Many new experiences for me - being in an inflatable dome, sitting in an airplane seat, watching the Expo 67 intro film.
I'll always remember this as the ride we got stuck on when it broke down but they didn't let us exit. It was also the one where some one stole my camera so I don't have any photos of it or Discovery Island where I was just before.
I remember my sister and I were on this ride in around 2013. The ride got stuck as we were on a part where the cart goes backwards slowly (if I remember correctly.) it was pitch black and this ride overall is kinda creepy to me. So I was absolutely terrified
There used to be a kids show I watched as a kid in the 1970’s called BIG BLUE MARBLE, whose opening credits song lyrics went , “The Earth”s a Big Blue Marble...When you see it from Out There...It’s beauty is very Rare”..(wonder if anyone else remembers this show...it was pretty cool, primarily about all of the different cultures of the world, and how kids in other countries lived..)
From what I understand we are getting new ride updates for Spaceship Earth. I think it’s for the 40th Anniversary of EPCOT. I can’t wait to see what they do and what they add.
Unfortunately, the Spaceship Earth updates have now been placed on indefinite hold due to the economic losses that Disney has incurred during the Corona virus/COVID-19 pandemic :(
So the concept script for Spaceship Earth, the centerpiece of my favorite park at Disney World, is dated July 22nd 1977. That's 20 years to the day before my own birth. That's pretty neat.
Just a short rant, sometimes it seems that people seem to think prehistory equals dinosaurs. Dinosaurs only were around for a brief time relative to the age of the universe or even the earth. And there were a lot more organisms than just dinos.
Hey Park Ride History, After the two parts of The Evolution of Spaceship Earth, Could u do the 3 or 4 Parts of The Evolution of Duffy and Friends and The Rise and Downfall of Duffy the Disney Bear's Meet n Greet in Both Disneyland, CA and Epcot @ WDW, FL?
@@dougchampion8084 i like to sneak food into Disney parks and leave it on the dark rides...so the next rider can enjoy a turkey and salt and vinegar chips sandwich on whole wheat i made in my car that morning...with extra mayo.. I think it makes the ride better. so next time you're at epcot and you find a sandwich in the dark, just remember, i'm thinking of you.
I couldn't agree more. Its a nice ride, but times are changing and things get old after awhile. I like the American Adventure attraction as well, but I think that needs to be updated too.

Nice job. I know a lot about Epcot history in general but a lot less about specific attraction development. Thank you!

Everytime I'm at Epcot, we try to go twice a month. I make sure to go on Spaceship Earth. Everytime i try to find something i never noticed.
interesting how the dinosaur scene was cut from spaceship earth and eventually came back for the universe of energy
Thank you Phoenicians!

Don't know how well a guest appearance by Hitler would go over in a Disney park, but hey, keep Epcot weird.
I like it. It shows that humanity is flawed and should always be in pursuit to becoming better.

This ride is such a time capsule it creeps me out. In a good way.
I'm starting to feel like now days its only a matter of time before they replace this with a spiderman ride or some shit like that
11:48-15:03-17:22 The Big Bang and Dinosaurs would be used in the Universe of Energy.
