I took delivery of a Tesla Model Y that was discounted because of the end of the quarter. I walk through the delivery process and cover some of the quality issues that the car had upon delivery.

I took delivery of a Model Y in November and I went over it thoroughly and it was perfect! An amazing delivery experience.
I took delivery a week ago and had no issues at all. Also got a 7,800 discount on the inventory because it was a 2023 with the old gray paint. Love it so far
At 7:00 you mentioned about the new suspension for the model Y.. is this for all model Y? How about the Performance Model? Thanks
I took delivery of the Model Y LR with a tow hitch discounted by $3,500. Placed the order Monday evening, and picked it up the next day around noon. Quality was excellent, no rattles, no paint imperfections, body panels with even gaps, overall an excellent experience. This is my first Tesla and I love the fact that everything but the title signature was completed in the Tesla app including full payment of the vehicle. No trips to the DMV. So far nothing but good things to say.
I used to build cars for Nissan and when I bought my 2024 model long range I noticed a huge gap in the passenger rear door and they had to fix it and they had to replace the driver side mirror because it was malfunctioned and caused a lot of wind noise in the cabinbut other than that my experience was great
I just got a MY LR AWD for 5,750 MSRP off and less 1,000 CT reservation holders discount.
Interested to see your thoughts on the recent high fidelity park assist if a video is potentially coming out
No video planned. It’s a bit better than what we previously had, and I like being able to visualize parking lines + turning lines from the car in a Birds Eye view. The lack of distance measurements shows the lack of confidence in the ability to accurately map distance (which is what ultrasonics do very well and what I used to park previously). High fidelity park assist is a step in the right direction, but not always accurate and still struggles in many conditions
@@DylanHongTech Let’s hope future updates improve it
what part of Arizona do you in? Im in North Phoenix
Hi Dylan - can you share the financial aspects of your recent Model Y purchase? Did you trade in your old Model Y? Did you lose money on this switch?
I bought the new Model Y for $48,490 (I’m eligible for the $7500 credit) and I sold my old Model Y to family, so finances weren’t my biggest priority
I bought the cheapest inventory Model Y LR last quarter and I realized the reason for that was because it was obviously a rejected vehicle. Tesla “tried” to fixed most of the issues, but as per usual the car came back with an annoying rattle. My 22 Model 3 LR was pretty much perfect, so I am a little annoyed but the Y was so much cheaper. Good luck with yours. BTW those white specs are probably residue from buffing compound that was slinging around from the polisher.
Sorry to hear about that experience. I’m really hoping they can fix the rattles, that’s the worst for me
@@DylanHongTech time to get a toyota hybrid 2016-2024 take your pick
I picked up a Y last week because of the discounts. I found 3 dust specs in the paint, a door ding and 3 small chips. There was also a lot of sticker adhesive on the windows and fenders. Unfortunately, I found this after I took the car home to wash. I then noticed scratches on one of the red the calipers and a scuff on the door handle. Tesla would not fix the door ding or paint chips. They said it was a week after I took delivery. I did not drive the car for the first week. I only washed it and waited for my appointment to have ppf added to the front end and rocker panels. I noticed loose threads on the seats but trimmed them off. Tesla still has a ways to go with their new car delivery process. Looking at the car in the parking lot with the salesperson standing over you is not ideal. At home in the garage with my lights shows all of the flaws.
Totally agreed. It’s tough because if the car didn’t have any quality issues it would be really great all around. But the service and delivery experience is rough
I don’t think vision is going to work well until they add the front facing camera. Enjoy your new model Y!
I wonder if fsd parking with these cars will only ever work backing in
I hope my experience would be better. I can't believe they gave you the car in that condition. I would have refused it with all the paint issues. I'm super nervous now.
Hi Dylan. How’s the new pirelli tires compared to the regular continental tires ?
They feel fine to me. Not a huge difference
I feel the steering to be overly heavy when compared to the continental pro contact.
you have every right to scrutinize your purchase as you did in the video however many people don't worry about many of the imperfections you pointed out and that's probably why Tesla pushes these vehicles out with slight discounts for many. Good video thanks
Will you ever try out other EVs? Also, I’m considering buying a used Tesla in a couple months/mid next year, do you think you could make a used model 3 buyer’s guide video please?
I actually purchased another EV this year! I recorded some footage but haven’t had the chance to put it together. I got a Bolt EUV, it’s a great commuter car.
As for the used model 3 guide, that could be tough because I don’t have a lot of experience buying used teslas
How does living with the bolt euv differ than the model y? Is it worth ~2x the price difference? Looking at first ev... looking at model y and also the bolt euv as a family around town car.
Maybe I should make that video at some point… we’ve had the bolt for nearly a year. Overall, we got a higher trim bolt EUV for my wife’s commuter car. It has super cruise and ventilated seats + a 360 camera. As a commuter car, it’s honestly amazing. It’s super maneuverable and easy to park. It lives up to its estimated range very well. But the lack of reasonable dc fast charging rates is a big reason the car should be priced lower.
I bought it before most of the big price reductions on Teslas so if I were to make the decision now, I’d probably get a model 3 over the bolt from a financial perspective. But, my wife likes the bolt more than she likes the model 3 because it’s more maneuverable and sits up higher.
Love Tesla. Trading my 3 year old Model 3 for a new 2023 Model Y. It would be my 3rd Tesla. It has HW4.0, sorry to hear that Tesla Vision isn't better. I hear they can add Tesla version of radar eventually.
I also got the same $2,500 off, and anticipating similar issues on delivery. Delivery this Wednesday, and looking forward to it. I will be doing a much more detailed walk like you did. I didn't when I picked up my model 3, and have had to live with none flush door handles for example. Will be listing all the blemishes i see this time. Taking a video of it also, in case I need to prove to Tesla the issue was there on delivery day.
And yes, my model 3 had a rattle. took it in and of course they could not find it. Sent me home with instruction to video the noise to help them find the noise.
@@attisthecat how you manage to get discount I thought Tesla was not doing any discount? did you get EV incentive substracted to the total amount?
@@christopheboswell3198 got the tax credits. not at the time of purchase. that starts this year i believe. their referral program is working now, but instead i qualified for Loyalty credits being my 2nd purchase.
Getting my new Model Y this Tuesday. If I see any scratch, dirty or any other QC issues, I will be refusing delivery and heading back home to stick to my BMW. In my opinion, paying good amount of dough for a new car and it should be in pristine condition.
Good luck! I hope it’s in great condition
Sound in the back likely the seat belt metal part hitting the plastic part of the seats
It was a loose part inside the seat housing. Service confirmed
Which tires did this car come with? is this the long range?
Pirelli scorpions. Long range
@@DylanHongTech we love them on our Rivian. Looking to buy a Y tomorrow with them. That might be why the ride feels better over larger bumps
Just ordered one with 7500$ price discount on MSRP , ModelY LR! Today.
Edit: the passenger doors are flush, I opened a ticket and they readjust the seal and now the door is sitting perfectly in line with the panels
I rejected my first delivery, the mirror was horribly misaligned, the tail light stick out more than a quarter inch, the frunk has uneven panel Gap, the rubber trim on the top of the glass roof were uneven, my next model y which is the one I just picked up last night was almost perfect. Only the passenger front door stick out a little bit and I believe it is easy fix for them because every thing else lined up perfectly. I'm surprised that they were able to deliver within eight days. I request they send me the link of the replacement vehicle and the link literally has the VIN number and it shows vehicle in production, not the one already in inventory. Both model y were build in Fremont and the quality could be drastically different. My brother also pick up his model y with me last night and his has zero panel, literally his was perfect.
Those gaps can be subjective. What may be a gap to you may not be to the next person. I think people watch too much you to videos. I picked up my 2023 model S plaid couple ago. I wasn't perfect but I say 95%. there isn't any car that's going to be perfect no matter what the price tag is on it.
The gaps are very serious to me because I use to build cars and do quality inspections so I know exactly what to look for. Tesla has to check and fix these things before it leaves the factory to be delivered to the shop. I bought my 2024 model y long range last month and had to take it in twice to get things fixed or replaced.
Hi Dylan. Got any fix for the rattling noise?
It was an issue with the housing for the rear seat latch. Tesla service fixed it
@@DylanHongTechwhen you went on the test drive w/ the tech, did they just acknowledge the general area of the rattle, and then they did their own investigation?
I’m always curious how they figure out where exactly the issue is.
@dksmv6328 the person handling my service visit rode along and noted the general area, then they relayed that info to the service tech who was actually going to be working on the car. The service tech drives the car too when the car is in their hands
In contrast my Mexico built Ford Maverick was flawless.
Same!
Does it have HW4?
Yes
how u get so many teslas u paid one off and then get the other one
Trade in. I’ve only bought Teslas in cash, no financing, so it’s easy to trade in if the value is good
You said its an in-between car? What do you with them?? Lol!
I’ve been able to trade them in for good values
@@DylanHongTech to tesla? Or third party?
1. I would have them repaint the panel to fix the scratch.
2. Have them fix the headlight scratch.
3. I would ask them to give you free stuff for the inconvenience having to deal with such piss poor experience.
4. I would have the whole car paint corrected at their expense from a reputable detail shop.
If everyone demands the above then Tesla would be forced in improving their build quality.
A 28k Toyota has better fit and finish. So there shouldn’t be an excuse for a 50k car to have such scratches on the paint from factory.
5. They will show you the door. 😂😂😂😂
How you buy a discounted Tesla, then expect it to be in mint condition? 🤔😂
Because it’s brand new just like any other Tesla
Glad you throughly inspected the car at delivery. That is very annoying seeing all the white stuff inside, scratches on the paint and marring… Tesla is still poor at quality control.
people don't know that all automakers have shit like this. but people don't care on others
This is not acceptable! Trunk sound not normal.
Just picked car up from service and they fixed it thankfully
'promosm' ✋
Seems like you have terrible luck with Tesla lol
Maybe, I wonder that the statistics are on the % of deliveries have require a follow up service visit to fix something with the new car. I’d guess it’s pretty high as many UA-camrs I’ve seen videos of have had to schedule service
@@DylanHongTech idk but I’ve also had 3 Teslas now and no delivery issues. Plenty of friends with no issues either. Looks like the bad gets reported more than the good. Still sucks that it happens at all though
Yeah, like I said in the video, I’ve seen deliveries that were flawless too. If I had to guess, it’s around 50/50 and I’ve gotten the wrong side of the coin every time. That being said, my first delivery wasn’t too bad
They are really bad at quality control and customer experience. They just do not give it enough attention and don't really care due to the massive demand.
Wow, complain much ?
Damn... you are quite picky... No wonder why people complains so much about the deliveries. I really think those things are no a big deal as to complain about it.
Some of the stuff is minor, but I want to document it to make sure people know what to expect. Although, the rattles on the interior are quite bad and the service team said right away they’re bad. Plus, a deep scratch in the paint in a new car is rough
