- Hi all! It's been a while). Went out today to make a stove in the dugout. It was very cold, but I made it. Building a shelter in the woods makes me very happy. Now I have a cozy and warm place even in cold weather. Enjoy everyone's viewing!

Talk to your husband. Learn together to endure outdoor activities. Winter in freezing conditions is not a joke. Same for extreme hot temperatures. I have spent two winters in minus. And two extremely warm summer near to Africa. And is not easy at is seems .

I built a pit-house in the southern part of SW Utah in 2005. I simply dug a hole in the ground big enough to then construct a cabin of wood inside. Then buried it with the soil removed from the ground. In winter and summer it stays around 50 degrees inside. I winter a small campfire keeps it warm and in summer the soil around it keeps it cool when its hot outside.
Pit-house construction goes back to before the time of Christ, as you probably know. I remember ducking into a ground-level chamber at Chaco Canyon several decades ago. It was a very hot summer day with relentless sun - inside the Pueblo, with several stories above us, we were delightfully cool.
Too bad we “have” to use enormous amounts of fossil fuels to stay comfortable today.

Videos like these help me to fall asleep.. Seeing the snow makes me feel cozy and warm in my bed and the amount of hard work I watch makes my body suuuper relaxed.

Dude, people don't do things like this anymore just for fun. Yet this guy's just enjoying himself in the woods, doing something the likes. That's pretty cool man. I'd love to still be able to do things like this.

This knowledge could be lifesaving when, not if, our sun goes nova. Not the full blow up type of nova, just a micronova and since it repeats every 12000 years not many people have heard of it--called the recurrent micronova by the scientists who have recently discovered the phenomenon. 17:00 you can use red soil to glue the bricks. you can find it in hilly or soil areas of the lake. it has a pretty good resistance to high temperatures.
So clay is what you mean😂 down south we don’t have dirt we have clay or red soil as you call it

I think that's exactly what you are missing! A really good stove like that. It will hold the heat in those bricks. Even after the fire dies down and it's just at coals. I think the flat surface will make cooking a whole lot easier. You might be able to find a piece of metal that you can bend into a square and put it on the plate to make an oven to bake in. That place is just about right now! Good job.

in fact ... these are fire clay bricks that insulate and do not retain heat, they normally protect the outside structures of the stoves from the heat of fire .. They are hot when the fire is burning, but they also cool down quickly when the fire is gone ... you need another layer of normal bricks outside ..
the man is inexperienced, at first he wanted to set up a cementless structure, then he lost a lot of them through the construciton process. Cement is also not good material for the high heat, he have to use fire clay flour. He was made too large stove (energy inefficient), although he already has two others stoves, a small metal and a miniature gas one in his cabin + one small gas cooker ...

But there is no survival element here. Everything is pre-designed. When you really have to survive, you don't have the gear with you, not to mention the gas heater, frying pan and the Entrecote beef steak from the Butcher's shop.

You can make a small outlet of your new oven and run a pipe around the room so that some of the heat can escape into the pipe to warm up the room evenly. Cap the end of the pipe. Similar to those big Russian heaters that have pipes going around the house.
or to buy a heating radiator, put a thick fire-resistant steel box in fire, which water enters and through two pipes, one going and one back, go to the heat radiator for hot water, and do as the Australian aborigines: have two or three dingoes and put them over your body to give you heat
an iron cylinder with a chimney at one end and a gate at the bottom is better and more effective, and better with a chamber where to heat water that then goes to a heat radiator bu two pipes, he could even be semi naked inside the cabin

My interpretation was that the first brick oven was a proof of concept, to see if it was a viable way to warm the shelter. When the concept bore fruit, he did it up properly.

Suggestion: I did note how you brought in the air for the fire. But, it would be better to bring it in from the outside and from under the base of the fire. This would keep from drawing in warm air from the inside and sucking in cold replacement air. The entrance below the fire will have an ash problem blocking incoming air therefore the input should have a downward slop to have ash fall out and downward to the outside.
YES! Get combustion air from outside for sure!
And thereby stifle the air circulation in the interior of the room , thereby increasing the level of CO2 in the room , and this is due to poisoning or suffocation !!! Of course , you can do separate ventilation in the wall , but then the meaning of the supply pipe is lost ! In Russia, cold weather and heating by Stoves have been studied lengthwise and across 😊 Take an example 😉
@@Eclipse_2211 I see both your points, but I lean in your direction because the space is so small compared to the size of the fires being burned. I imagine that drafts are the least of your worries 5 minutes after the metal stove is lit and 20 or 30 minutes after the brick hearth is fired up - and less time if you leave the door open, because of the radiant heat from the fire.
It seems odd to see both a wood stove and a brick hearth, but I imagine that the stove was for climate control during construction. He probably doesn't want to run the gas heater without the front door hanging open.
I imagine that once either the stove or the brick hearth are going for any length of time, it gets stiflingly hot in there!

No fire should be burning without outside air allowed in or you will not awaken to discover your mistake. Carbon monoxide is sneaky and deadly. Notice he has all fires OUTside his shelter with a wall to reduce loss of heat and reflect some heat onto his shelter,
