My brother had a 1987 Turdcel and it blew a head gasket. My father had a 1990 Turdcel and it blew TWO head gaskets. I had a 1993 Turdcel and that blew THREE head gaskets! For $1000 installed, you could get a rebuilt motor and it would last about 100K miles. They were fun and peppy to drive though.
I have a 90 3-door, it has EFI. They are very simple cars. I would like to convert it to an EV these days, one that is very fast. I've hung on to it , as nobody would take it for free, it has no engine or trans (I used trans for diy cement mixer..) and getting a smog legal replacement engine is impossible, so can't be legal to drive in California. I need a new fender if anyone has one, I also had a lady kick in my passenger door as I was towing out of my property through the alley, she thought the alley was her private property. btw, my dad bought a new 1980 Tercel, he loved that car, was so thrilled to have such a small car after driving our suburban (which he used when he was part of a carpool)
Thx for the memory, I had a 87 3-door in the 90's I used as a daily driver/winter beater for when the mr2 went into storage it was a great car for rain & snow covered roads, I still catch myself staring at a well kept Yaris from time to time, bigger is not always better.
I bought a new Tercel hatchback in 1986. I drove it until 2011 when I traded for a Hyundai Accent. The Tercel actually sold right away from the dealer. The man who bought it called me to check if I had done certain maintenance and I had. He was driving a Cadillac to work and wanted to have lower gas bills. I actually wish I had kept the Tercel. I have been in a wheelchair since 1973 and believe it or not the little Tercel was great to get into and out of including of course stowing my wheelchair behind the passenger seat. I could get my chair out and reassembled and into it in 3 minutes. That car allowed me to go where and when I wanted until I was 69 years old. The Accent was harder to use and my shoulders gave out. Oh, I miss that Tercel!
Hello there! I drive a '99 Toyota Tercel, the very last year of production, and i want to keep it for as long as it rolls. I bought it for $900 in abbotsford off some kid who was immigrating to alberta and didn't want to bother taking his car collection so he was selling it all off real cheap. Had 245,050 kms on it when i bought it. Now it's at 253,300. It's the absolute perfect beater. BTW i noticed a lot of your video clips of the car driving were shot in my hometown of Chilliwack. Good to know the tercel nation is alive and well here!
This is the highest quality video i've seen on these cars and i'm loving it!!....our family has had a notch back '89 model since new and we drove it through the rough streets of Addis Ababa in Ethiopia it's whole life and it still doesn't miss a beat....220k miles and still going strong. Can't wait until i can get my hands on one of my own
Two door sedan, 3rd Gen Tercel is my favorite.... had an '89 recently and it moved right along. Great video from a guy who, like myself, obviously loves the 3rd gen....
Amazing video !!!! I love it ! I have a 90 Toyota Tercel. You by any change know what coilovers will fit or what do you recomend. The car bounces side by side in the highway i feel very unsafe.
My friend and co-worker give this tercel 1991 2door sedan recently as a gift, actually.this is my first car here in Canada. Its a very basic car and reliable because it is Toyota. Maybe in the future i will fix the minor dents and do the paint job. To make it more presentable.
I was given a '95 Tercel as a "loaner" car from a Toyota dealership while my '98 Tacoma was getting a new starter installed. I loved that '98 Tacoma, but, driving the Tercel all day was actually fun. Too bad they are no longer produced. I drive a 2012 base Tacoma manual trans and manual everything now and love it. Simpler the better!
Yooo, I love these cars! I have a 90 Tercel DX (boxy el31 body) and I'm looking for lowering springs so bad, I've order from three different vendors and they all came back to me saying their inventory was wrong and can't find the springs anywhere! Do you know where I should be looking?
I just bought a 95 saw it on the side of the road and bought it right away im sitting in it now looking up vids . Ama work on mine might make a vid mines auto matic but going to make more of a stance than speed tercel wish me luck

Why dont you go for tubes??
@@ghostofsparta6579 Tubes, as in coilovers? Haven't found any made for my car and the "one size fits all" coilovers sketch me out too much.
